Wood has always been very popular with humans. Increasingly, the board is used as a finishing material, which is distinguished by its practicality and uniqueness of design. Particular attention should be paid to facade products used for decorating private houses.

Peculiarities

Facade board is a finishing material used to cover the outer walls of residential buildings. Technically, it is a product based on natural wood that can be specially treated. Such influences are capable of changing even the structure of the material, which increases its technical characteristics.

Facade board can be of various sizes and shapes, but externally, the products are endowed with a structure that is completely identical to natural wood. This applies to varieties, the production of which involves the introduction of additional polymer components into wooden surfaces.

Facade board for outdoor decoration is widely used in construction. It differs from ordinary wood in greater resistance to external factors. Particular attention should be paid to painted materials or thermal board.

The main purpose of the facade board is to decorate the facades. - it cannot be used as a protective material, since its characteristics do not allow creating optimal conditions for thermal insulation.

Advantages and disadvantages

Facade boarding is increasingly practiced in small private houses, but it can also be found in multi-storey buildings.

The popularity of such products is associated with its positive properties:

  • Environmentally friendly. Almost all types of products are made from natural wood. This product is not capable of influencing the human body in any way. Planking or fired materials can be classified as especially safe. If we talk about a composite board, then the level of its safety has not yet been fully proven. This is due to the fact that during its manufacture, various polymeric substances are added to the structure of the product.
  • Good ventilation. The products are mounted on a special frame, so they do not stick closely to the walls. An air gap is formed between such surfaces, where gases circulate.
  • Wind protection. The shape of the finishing material assumes a tight fit between adjacent elements, therefore, Scandinavian and other types of boards additionally protect the walls from the effects of wind.
  • Thermal insulation. Wood retains heat well in itself, which allows you to maintain an optimal temperature inside the house. This argument is one of the most significant factors influencing the choice of facing material.
  • Durability. Products can easily resist external influences. This allows the material to be used much longer than a conventional wooden board. This effect is achieved due to special processing and strengthening of the structure of the substance.
  • Practicality. The surface of the board has a smooth structure, which makes it easy to maintain the material.
  • Unique design. Although the board has a woody structure, it almost never repeats itself. The presence of many colors allows you to choose a coating for almost every taste and for the overall design of the house.
  • Ease of installation. To fix the product, you do not need too complicated tools and a lot of experience - even an inexperienced home owner can do the cladding.

The facade board is not a universal solution, as it has several significant disadvantages:

  • Low fire resistance. Although board manufacturers treat it with protective substances, they do not always protect the material from fire. This is especially true for a board that consists only of wood.
  • High price. This is due not only to production processes, but also to the use of various expensive types of wood.
  • The need for constant care. In most cases, this concerns planken, which it is advisable to periodically treat with special protective solutions.
  • Minimal resistance to fading. Composite materials often have similar characteristics. At the same time, the wood expands very well when heated, therefore, during installation, this factor must be taken into account and appropriate gaps must be left between the joining elements.

Views

Facade boards are products made from both natural wood and artificial substances.

Depending on the method of production, products of this type are divided into several types.

  • Unedged board. The product is a thin-sawn material made from various types of wood. There is no bark on the surface of the product, and it is also treated with special protective solutions. In most cases, this type of board is made from larch, which easily resists fungi and is durable. The material is the cheapest, therefore it is not always in demand on the market.
  • Planken. This is an edged board, in which all sides are processed with circulars. It is made from various types of wood. Especially popular are materials from ash, oak, cedar and larch - these tree species are distinguished by their durability and unique decorative properties. The market also offers products from exotic breeds, among which coumara, teak, shingles and meranti can be distinguished.
  • Composite. Wood-polymer composite board is the most durable of all types considered. It is distinguished by its strength, durability, fire resistance and resistance to temperature and humidity extremes. These materials are very similar to decking, which is obtained according to the same principle.
  • Thermal board. The material is also obtained from a conventional wooden board. Finished products are subjected to special heat treatment. In the process, all water is removed from the tree, and its structure also changes. After that, the substance is practically unable to absorb moisture, and also easily resists external influences.
  • Fiber cement board. It is another representative of artificial materials. A board made from this substance is not used so often, since it has nothing to do with natural wood. At the same time, the products are endowed with very good technical parameters and can soon replace the materials described above.

Manufacturers

The popularity of the facade board is increasing every year. It is used not only for cladding facades, but also as decorative coatings for certain areas of the house. There are many varieties of cladding boards on the market today.

Among all this variety, there are several popular brands:

  • Vetedy;
  • Bruggan;
  • Legro is a Hungarian-made product that stands out for its high quality and original design;
  • PS-Wood is a domestic manufacturer of WPC boards, which are made using German technology;
  • Revaldia;
  • "Ekoles" - produces high-quality facing plank, which is suitable for various types of houses.

There are many other companies that produce materials that are easy to use both outside and inside buildings.

Mounting

The technology for installing cladding from a facade board consists of the following sequential operations.

  • Preparing the walls. This often involves strengthening the top facing layer. If the plaster has peeled off on the walls, then these places should be repaired so that the situation does not worsen later.
  • Fastening of thermal insulation. This layer is optional, but the facade board allows the use of insulation. Here you can use both mineral wool and other similar materials. At the same time, it is important to take care of the waterproofing of the insulation - it is best to sheathe it on both sides with a special protective film.
  • Installation of the lathing. Either wood planks or a metal profile are used as a frame. The first option is suitable for planken and all types of natural wood boards. If composite materials are used, then it is better to use a metal profile that can withstand high loads. All guiding elements of the frame are arranged vertically.
  • Fixing the board. The fastening of the elements is simple. In the case of a wooden frame and planken, ordinary self-tapping screws are used - they screw the board to the base with them. It is worth noting that these types of material do not overlap - it is advisable to leave a small gap between them, which will allow the tree to expand. For composite boards, special fasteners are used, which are designed for metal. It should be noted that sometimes ordinary metal screws can be used here.

For such tasks, it is worth using only high-quality products of proven brands in order to exclude frequent repairs of structures and make the building unique.

Beautiful examples

Facade board is a unique facing material that can radically change the appearance of any home. For example, in combination with other finishing materials and glass, it can give a small cottage a completely unique, inimitable look.
