The unique Yalta white bow can decorate the collection of the most demanding summer resident. The variety that has recently appeared on the market has retained all the best properties of the Crimean varieties, but made it possible to bring in them an even greater flavor variety. The plant is thermophilic, it can be grown by seedlings or direct sowing into the ground.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by Russian specialists. Included in the State Register in 2017 at the request of Gavrish Breeding Company LLC.

Description of the variety

Onions with 90% ripeness before harvesting. Reaches full ripeness when ripening. The variety is small, forms no more than 1-2 heads. Well aligned. Greens develop slowly, it takes a long time to wait for its appearance.

Dry scales are difficult to separate from juicy ones. Yalta white onions are not suitable for long-term storage. It is consumed within 2-3 months after harvest. Greens are removed only when growing seedlings. Without feathers, you cannot get a large, strong turnip.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and bulbs

The Yalta white onion is characterized by a flat-round shape of the heads. The size of each is assessed as large, the average weight reaches 100-140 g. Dry and juicy scales are white, the structure of the layers is of medium density.

The feathers of the plant are dense, rather large. They are green, covered with a noticeable waxy coating. The average length of arrows exceeds 1 m.

Purpose and taste

The variety is considered a salad variety. The taste is semi-sharp, sweetish, delicious. Soups and even desserts are prepared from this onion; due to its high sugar content, it caramelizes well.

Maturation

The onion is mid-season, from the emergence of shoots to the moment of mass lodging of the feathers, it takes 135-148 days.

Yield

In the Yalta white onion, the average yield reaches 244-293 c / ha. They are considered high for this culture.

Growing regions

The variety is zoned for planting in the North Caucasian region of the Russian Federation. It can be grown on windowsills or in mini-greenhouses in other climatic zones.

Planting dates with seeds, seedlings and seedlings

When using seedlings in the ground, the bulbs are sent from the end of April or the beginning of May. It is important that the earth has time to warm up. Seeds are sown in March. Seedlings are transferred to the ground in the 1st decade of May.

Growing and care

Yalta white onion is most often grown for a turnip in an annual culture. Sowing is done by seeds. In the northern regions, it is cultivated mainly in seedlings. Plants need plenty of sunlight to grow healthy and strong. The optimal planting pattern for him: 5-10 × 20 cm when deepened by 1 cm.

The soil is prepared by adding humus and mineral complex fertilizers to the sod land. Sprinkle the seedlings with a sandy substrate. In seedling cultivation, the pick is performed with the appearance of 4 feathers. At the same time, the roots and leaves of each seedling are slightly shortened.

When growing, the main focus is on loosening the soil around the heads of the Yalta onions. In the last month, the heads are slightly exposed. Watering is carried out weekly, with the introduction of up to 20-30 liters of water per 1 m2. The liquid for irrigation is preliminarily softened or defended, heated in the sun. It is watered in the furrows between the rows, avoiding direct ingress of moisture on the heads.

Top dressing according to the schedule is performed at intervals of 10-12 days.Mineral mixtures based on urea, superphosphate and potassium chloride are alternated with a solution of brewer's yeast and chicken manure. Plants need calcium-based supplements in the last 3-4 weeks before harvest. This will benefit the bow.

Since the onion is an unpretentious and cold-resistant plant, it can be planted both in spring and autumn. It is necessary to properly prepare the planting material, competently prepare the garden bed and determine the timing of planting.

To grow a large and tasty onion crop, you need to take good care of it from planting to harvesting. Watering is an important part of outdoor crop care. Thanks to timely watering, the onion will be able to grow normally, form a bulb, and grow greens.

Soil requirements

The best soil for it is clayey. Plants do not need rich soil mineralization. But they need additional loosening of the top layer, so when planting, you should think about drainage, preventing stagnation of water.

The bow is not as unpretentious as it seems. For good growth, you need fertile soil, quality care and nutritious fertilizers. Without top dressing, the bulbs will grow small, and the greens will not be lush. At different stages, it should be fed with different substances. The vegetable needs organic and mineral feeding. A good result for fertilizing onions is the use of folk remedies.

Required climatic conditions

The variety is thermophilic and requires mild climatic conditions. Poorly tolerates severe cold snaps, hail. A maritime climate with high humidity and air salinity is best suited.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety is well protected against most fungal diseases. Sometimes it is affected by peronosporosis.

Despite the fact that the onion is a very useful plant, capable of repelling and killing many microbes and bacteria, it itself is often damaged and suffers from various misfortunes. Diseases and pests of onions can significantly reduce the yield. It is necessary to correctly determine the presence of this or that disease and take appropriate measures in time.

Review overview

Summer residents only recently got acquainted with the white Yalta onion, but they have already managed to give it a high rating. Mention is made of good and friendly seed shoots, excellent taste of the heads. The variety is considered one of the best to add to salads, even those who find common onions too spicy love it.

Among the shortcomings, amateur vegetable growers note the poor separability of dry scales when peeling onions. In addition, the variety is poorly suited for storage and therefore not suitable for commercial cultivation. And also indicates a large number of fakes, when buying it is better to trust the seeds of well-known manufacturers.

To get a good harvest, you should not only properly care for it, but also harvest it at a certain time. You can remove the onion from the garden only after it is fully ripe. Collecting bulbs in the middle lane usually begins in August, closer to the middle of the month.
After harvesting the onion, it is important to preserve it as long as possible, without losing quality. For this, the raw materials must be properly prepared. You can store onions in different ways. It is important to observe a certain mode of temperature and humidity in the room.
