The prince is a young and unmarried son of a prince. A great name for an onion variety with a delicate flavor and a truly royal response!

Description of the variety

Knyazhich is a shallot. Shallots differ from ordinary onions in their peculiar taste and smaller onions. Knyazhich is a worthy representative of the species. It is a modern, grateful variety, very productive. It is grown for greens and turnips, and can be used for forcing in winter. It is hardy and unpretentious, ripe bulbs, despite their small size, lie perfectly. Excellent for growing in the middle lane, tolerates an unstable climate. The originator of the variety is NPO Garden and Garden LLC, included in the Russian State Register in 2011.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and bulbs

The variety forms a lush bunch of thin and delicate leaves up to 50 cm.

The bulbs are medium-sized, weighing up to 24 g, elongated. The three covering scales of a fully ripe onion are reddish brown. Number of nests - 8. Inner scales are thick and juicy, few in number, purple in color. Keeping quality excellent - onions do not lose their qualities up to 10 months.

Purpose and taste

The taste is semi-sharp, delicate. Due to their small size, onions are great in a whole marinated form. It is inconvenient to clean, but the taste justifies the trouble. Knyazhich looks great in a fried, stewed form. It is juicy and tender, with a beautiful purple hue - wonderful in salads. Suitable even for making jams and exotic desserts.

Maturation

The variety is mid-season, harvested 65-70 days after planting, maturity already before harvesting is 100%. Onion Knyazhich does not need to be spread for ripening.

The greens can be pinched off 19-20 days after planting the bulbs.

Yield

The turnip yield will not impress those who are accustomed to the performance of ordinary onions, but it is very good for a group of shallots - they remove 900 grams of onions from 1 sq. m. According to some sources - up to 3 kg per 1 sq. m. m. But the yield of greenery is rich - up to 5 kg per 1 sq. m. m. landings.

Growing regions

The variety is universal, it grows equally well in the south of Russia, in the middle lane and in cold regions such as the Urals, Siberia, the Leningrad Region and the Far East.

Growing and care

Shallots are unpretentious, they like light neutral soils with a sufficient amount of humus. The best predecessors are potatoes, carrots, and legumes. They are planted in open ground from mid-April, shifting the dates to May for colder regions. In the North Caucasus, they are planted in early April. Air temperature for root growth is + 2 ... 25 ° С, for foliage - + 15 ... + 25 ° С. Onions tolerate short-term frosts down to -6 ° С. Prolonged subzero temperatures provoke shooting. But it is not worth delaying the landing either. Onion roots grow best when kept cool.

The variety is best grown in a two-year culture. In the first year, seeds are sown and sowing is obtained. In the second year, sevok is planted and full-fledged bulbs are dug out at the end of July.

It is advisable to warm the onion sets before planting for 1 month near the battery, then the bulbs are kept in the Fitosporin solution for 40 minutes.

The bulbs are cleaned of dry bottoms and the neck is cut off by 2-3 mm. Then it is sprayed with a weak solution of fertilizer and covered with a foil with holes in a suitable container. After 2-3 days, the roots will appear.

When landing, do not spare the area. The onions form a lush bunch of foliage, and if neighboring plants interfere with each other, the crop shreds. The distance between the bulbs is 10 cm, in the aisles - 20 cm (if on a feather), 25-30 cm and 40 in the aisles (to get a turnip).

It is rarely watered, with cool water, the water should not stagnate in the nests.

Feeding onions on a turnip is optional and even harmful after the appearance of a green mass, but greens adore liquid organic matter. They are fed every 2 weeks. With the help of dressings, the return is varied: either greens or a turnip. To obtain larger bulbs, the nests are thinned out. When 5 leaves appear, you will already see how many bulbs are in the nest. The smallest ones pull out.

It will also be helpful to shovel the soil off the bulbs shortly before harvesting.

Watering should be stopped 2 weeks before harvesting. Harvesting begins with lodging and yellowing of the leaves. The dug out onions are dried under a canopy for 3-4 weeks, then the roots are cut off, the leaves are shortened to 5 cm. The harvest is put in trellised containers and stored in a room with a temperature of + 18 ... + 22 ° C and a humidity of 50-70%.

For planting next year, medium bulbs are selected. The smallest ones will be less productive, while the larger ones tend to form a large, but small crop.

Since the onion is an unpretentious and cold-resistant plant, it can be planted both in spring and autumn. It is necessary to properly prepare the planting material, competently prepare the garden bed and determine the timing of planting.

To grow a large and tasty onion crop, you need to take good care of it from planting to harvesting. Watering is an important part of outdoor crop care. Thanks to timely watering, the onion will be able to grow normally, form a bulb, and grow greens.

The bow is not as unpretentious as it seems. For good growth, you need fertile soil, quality care and nutritious fertilizers. Without top dressing, the bulbs will grow small, and the greens will not be lush. At different stages, it should be fed with different substances. The vegetable needs organic and mineral feeding. A good result for fertilizing onions is the use of folk remedies.

Despite the fact that the onion is a very useful plant, capable of repelling and killing many microbes and bacteria, it itself is often damaged and suffers from various misfortunes. Diseases and pests of onions can significantly reduce the yield. It is necessary to correctly determine the presence of this or that disease and take appropriate measures in time.

Review overview

The reviews are very good. Lush and delicate feather, tasty onion with excellent spicy and at the same time sweetish pulp. The balance of taste is amazing. Onion Knyazhich is very sympathetic, unpretentious, grows without problems. The only difficulty is to save the black onion in winter for planting next year. Many gardeners do it easier: they grow from a purchased turnip, they do not collect or buy seeds, the next year they leave bulbs from the current harvest for planting.

To get a good harvest, you should not only properly care for it, but also harvest it at a certain time. You can remove the onion from the garden only after it is fully ripe. Collecting bulbs in the middle lane usually begins in August, closer to the middle of the month.
After harvesting the onion, it is important to preserve it as long as possible, without losing quality. For this, the raw materials must be properly prepared. You can store onions in different ways. It is important to observe a certain mode of temperature and humidity in the room.
