Each house has favorite places and corners where it is pleasant to be, but there are also work areas, without which it is impossible to live comfortably. One of the most important areas where food preparation takes place is the kitchen. Depending on its size and arrangement, it can only serve as a working area, or it can also combine the functions of a dining room. In order for each family member to enjoy being in the kitchen, in addition to properly selected wallpaper, tiles, furniture and accessories, it is important to pay attention to lighting, which plays a big role in creating the necessary atmosphere and convenience of working on it.

How to arrange lighting correctly?

Indoor lighting can play a key role, so its importance should not be underestimated. In any apartment, less attention is paid to the decor, because the usability of each room becomes the most important issue. The arrangement of lighting in the kitchen has a number of features.

  • Full coverage of the entire area, so that there are no clearly dark areas.
  • Using the required number of lamps and their power. In a dim room, it will be more difficult to actively work, creating culinary masterpieces, and too much light will quickly tire the eyes, which can lead to headaches.
  • For lovers of some interesting design and interior style, it is worth using multi-level lighting, which will make the perception of the room non-standard and creative.
  • In the event that fine lighting is used, and there are many light sources, their power should be low, otherwise the room will be overly illuminated, which will additionally draw energy overruns.
  • Choosing lamps and chandeliers, you should give preference to products that are simple in shape, which make the interior stylish. At the same time, they should be simple and easy to use, because in the kitchen they will be taken care of more intensively.
  • To create a stylish and cozy space, it is important to be able to correctly combine light objects. Large chandeliers are matched with spotlights, which together create a single composition.

The choice of lighting will depend on the style of the interior in which it is created. If the kitchen is made to match the classics, then the location of the chandelier should be in the center of the room, and the product itself should have rather large dimensions in order to saturate everything around with light as much as possible. In modern interiors, preference is given to spot lighting, even on the ceiling, which is created with the help of 2-4 or more lamps installed in the suspended ceiling.

Kitchen lighting does not end with the placement of chandeliers or lamps on the ceiling, wall lighting looks very beautiful, as well as the organization of the working area with the help of appropriate lighting devices. Additional light sources are usually required in spacious kitchens or where the room has non-standard dimensions. Wall lighting can be done with sconces or lamps. Depending on their position, the light will be directed either downward, illuminating a certain area well, or scattered, creating a cozy and bright space.

A fluorescent lamp can be used on furniture to illuminate the work area for a more comfortable cooking experience. The modern modular system is completed with built-in chiseled lighting based on LED lamps. If there is a need to create decorative lighting, you can use LED strip of different colors.

In order to choose the right one or another option for lighting a kitchen, you need to rely on the design of the entire room, its dimensions and functional purpose.

General lighting

The main lighting should be such that light falls on the working and dining areas, illuminating them evenly. If these zones are distant from each other, you can use swivel shades, which will make it possible to direct the light to specific points. For a small kitchen, it is enough to use one chandelier, and a more spacious room will need to be supplemented with lamps.

Spot lighting or a chandelier above the table will make it possible to separate this area from the rest of the kitchen, which will give the room a cozier look.

    For ceiling lighting, it is not recommended to use a voluminous lampshade made of an opaque material, as it will visually reduce the room, distracting all attention to itself, and will also absorb a lot of light due to the opaque structure of the product. Modern technologies make it possible to choose any option for lighting a room, choose a light bulb of the required power and create such an interior that is needed in a particular room. General lighting options can include wall lights, sconces, and floor lamps if dictated by style.

    Everything that will make it possible to illuminate the room for a comfortable stay in it, and will be general lighting.

    Ceiling

    For many years, ceiling lighting has been considered the only possible, versatile and most convenient. Modern interior design moves away from this position, creating new trends with the use of new lighting fixtures. With the advent of stretch ceilings, it became possible to create interesting ideas in which light will play a major role.

    The ceiling is often lit with more than one large lamp, but several smaller ones. If the ceiling structure has several levels, they will certainly be illuminated by built-in lamps, which allow you to focus on an interesting suspended structure.

    For those who prefer the classic version of the room decor, you can create a suspended lighting structure, on which small shades will be located, evenly distributing the light. This option is perfect for a spacious room in a modern style. Lovers of unusual shapes can choose a pendant chandelier in the form of several futuristic balls that will actually hang on the dining table, which must be decorated accordingly.

    It is not necessary to choose any one version of ceiling lighting, in the kitchen you can skillfully combine different lighting fixtures, while getting a cozy room.

    Work zone

    The most important place in the kitchen is the work area, so special attention should be paid to lighting here. Let's consider the most popular options.

    • Lighting, which is located under the wall cabinets. These can be both built-in lamps, if the furniture is made for them, or additionally installed products that direct the light to the desired point.
    • If there are no lockers above the working area, then you can highlight it with the help of built-in lamps on the ceiling, which will look spectacular and very beautiful.
    • If the design of hanging cabinets involves a cornice under the ceiling, then this is an excellent opportunity to place lighting spotlights in it.
    • If there are cabinets with transparent doors above the working area, it would be a good solution to place LED lights inside, which will be triggered when the door is opened.

    If we talk about other work areas, then fluorescent and halogen lamps can be used for them. Several lamps can be placed behind the bar, which can fully illuminate this area. You should not use a huge number of lighting fixtures; it is enough to place the right number of lamps at the optimal distance to provide the required light power. For the island, it will be necessary to use any other type of lighting that will differ from the main one in the kitchen, which will make it possible to highlight this area, making it light and cozy.

    Dinner table

      In the event that it is possible to arrange a dining area in the kitchen, then it should be additionally illuminated. The most correct and convenient option would be a chandelier, which is located on the ceiling and hangs down to the middle of the table. Modern trends require simple shapes of the shade, which will hang on a long leg directly to the table. If the dining area is small, one chandelier will suffice, and for a voluminous table it will be necessary to use two or even three chandeliers of the same design, their shape may be the same or slightly differ from each other.

      It is advisable to choose shades of transparent or light material so that they make it possible to illuminate the table as much as possible. The most popular forms are now considered a semicircle, cone, rectangle, ball.

      A properly selected lamp will provide not only the necessary light, but also coziness and comfort from being at the table and from the process of eating.

      Additional light sources

      So that there is enough light in the kitchen, and it can serve not only the main, but also the decorative function, you need to be able to choose the right lighting devices for this. Spot lighting can be used both in the traditional way, placing lamps on the ceiling, walls, cabinets, and in a non-standard way, placing them inside the cabinets.

      It looks especially impressive where there are glass elements. The backlight can be turned on from a switch or activated when needed when the cabinet is opened.

      As an additional light source, incandescent lamps were previously used, which are practically not used due to their inefficiency and fragility. Following them, halogen bulbs became popular, but their characteristics also did not satisfy consumers, therefore LED lighting devices began to be used. To make the lighting of the room beautiful and spectacular, at the moment there are three options:

      • LED strips;
      • LED lights;
      • fluorescent lighting devices.

      Illumination of the working area in the kitchen can be carried out using a device that has a shade and a light bulb inside. The so-called spots are very convenient, since they can be directed to the desired area and installed for each family member. Kitchen hangers are often used above the dining area, and a design is selected to match the overall interior. The appearance of such a suspension can be different, as well as the height of its placement above the table, it is important to observe the principle of competent lighting and ease of use of the area for eating.

      Original solutions

      The design of modern lamps is dictated by the style of kitchen decoration - the more original the interior, the more interesting the lighting fixture should look like. Such ideas should be tailored to a specific typeface to complement it.

      Spots have become very popular now, which can illuminate most of the kitchen. The size, color and shape of the spots can be varied.

      For the working area, it is most convenient to use built-in lamps, a light bar in this case will be the best solution, allowing you to uniformly illuminate the entire working surface.

      A modern solution for kitchen design is the use of a kitchen suspension, which is located above the working or dining area, decorating it and fully illuminating it.

        The use of a chandelier is also relevant, only now it can be placed not in the center of the room, but in the dining area, where it also has a decorative value.

        Tips & Tricks

        To equip a comfortable kitchen, it is important to know certain secrets. Don't be limited to one chandelier in the middle of the room. The most correct option for lighting a kitchen comes down to:

        • using the main chandelier;
        • placing several sconces near the dining table;
        • the presence of several spots in the working area;
        • additional lighting at the kitchen apron.

        When planning the lighting of the kitchen, you should complete its repair and installation of furniture, and then install the lamps in those places where they will be needed. If there are several options for lighting devices, it is worthwhile to separate them on different switches, so that, if necessary, use either one thing or all at once, without wasting extra electricity. A kitchen in a modern style can be made without the main chandelier, instead of which there will be built-in lamps or spots. This design option is not suitable for every interior, since the room turns out to be too strict and cold.

        The correct choice of lighting fixtures and their competent location will make it possible to get a cozy and comfortable kitchen.
