Each person's diet should have a sufficient amount of vitamins, the easiest way to get them is through the use of vegetables, fruits and berries. A lot of nutrients are found in strawberries, and besides, they are very easy to grow and do not require much effort.

Breeding history of the variety

This strawberry species was developed in Italy. In 2018, the CIV consortium applied to register several varieties of garden strawberries from Italy in the Russian register, one of which was the variety Sibylla. After passing tests at sites in many regions of the Russian Federation, it was entered into the State Register in 2020.

Description of the variety

Sibylla is a highly productive species that requires more than 500 hours of resting time. The uniqueness of this variety lies in the fact that it can be grown in difficult climatic conditions, while the plant itself will not suffer in any way. It has tall and compact bushes, which is very convenient for cleaning the beds, with intensive growth vigor. The leaves are dark green in color, small in size, densely entwine the bush, and the peduncles are at their level or slightly lower.

Strawberries have few whiskers, but still more than enough for reproduction. Sibylla fruits are bright red in color, which shimmer in the sun, which makes them appear slightly glossy.

Ripening terms

Sibylla refers to plants with medium to medium late fruiting, which occurs at a time when the early varieties have already departed. Flowering usually begins around mid-May, and fruits appear from late June to early July.

Growing regions

This strawberry variety can withstand harsh weather conditions, so it can be grown in the south and in the temperate latitudes of Russia, and Sibylla is excellent for the European climate, so it can be cultivated in Belarus and Ukraine.

Yield

This type of strawberry is characterized by its fairly quick return, which attracts many farmers. The first harvest is always much more abundant than the subsequent ones, since with the main fruiting Sibylla gives more than half of the harvest. During the ripening period, it is possible to collect 1-1.5 kg of berries from one bush. Each fruit is very large and can weigh from 20 to 40 g. Strawberries show such results even in bad climatic conditions.

Berries and their taste

The fruits have a beautiful symmetrical shape with a bright saturated color. They are very meaty and juicy. Also, the berry is characterized by an excellent sweet taste and a slight pleasant sourness. The strawberry aroma is simply mesmerizing.

True, Sibylla berries also have a small minus - insignificant voids come across in the pulp, but this still does not affect the wonderful taste.

Growing features

Saplings of this type of strawberry should be planted from spring to autumn. And the best time for planting is the end of July - mid-August. If the plant is planted later, it will not have time to develop enough and may die at low temperatures.

Sibylla is not particularly demanding on the soil, but it is best to choose sod-podzolic or sandy loam, where the soil will be neutral or slightly acidic.

It is also recommended to place seedlings 25-30 centimeters apart so that the bushes do not interfere with the normal development of their "neighbors". And between the beds, a distance of 40-50 cm should be observed.

Planting is best done in cloudy weather or late at night.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

First of all, you need to choose an area with enough sunlight, which will be protected from gusty winds. Before planting, the place should be cleared of pests (weeds) and the soil should be loosened to a shallow depth (about 30 cm). During the planting itself, it is imperative to monitor how the root is located in the soil so that it is completely underground and does not bend.

After the seedlings have already been planted, you need to water the sockets with warm water. If during the period of planting strawberries there is a high temperature outside, the sprouts should be shaded for about a week.

It is also not recommended to place seedlings on different slopes, since there is a risk of erosion of the root system by water runoff.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

Sibylla flowers are bisexual, therefore they do not need additional pollination processes. In addition, they are at a high level from the leaves, which has a positive effect on good and fast pollination.

Top dressing

In the spring, Sibylla should be fed with fertilizers with a high nitrogen content. For this, cow dung diluted with water is perfect. It is very important to maintain the correct consistency of the mixture. It is necessary to add 10 liters of water for every 2-3 kg of manure, and start watering the plants 2-3 hours after the solution has been prepared.

Also, a large amount of nitrogen is in urea, which should also be diluted with water (1 tablespoon of granules per 10 liters of liquid). Chicken droppings can also be used for successful feeding.

During ripening, strawberries must be fertilized with mineral mixtures that contain a lot of potassium and sodium. And already during the flowering period, it should be fed with boron.

By the end of fruiting, wood ash can be added to the soil - this will improve the ripening of the berries for the next year.Ash will give into the soil various minerals that are needed for plant growth, such as potassium, phosphorus and others.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

This variety does not belong to those that do not tolerate the cold season, but despite this, strawberries should still be prepared for winter in order to protect them from severe frosts. First of all, you should clear the bushes of old leaves. If you have previously used organic mulch, it must be replaced with a new one. A small layer of compost or peat protects well from low temperatures.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

Strawberries are very resistant to all kinds of diseases. Her immunity copes well with diseases that other varieties are exposed to. In the spring, there is a risk of gray rot. As a preventive measure, you can use various homemade tinctures and decoctions - for example, a solution of laundry soap and coniferous ash, which repels aphids.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

Breeding Sibylla produce a mustache, choosing a plant of three years of age. You need to use about 6 whiskers, leaving only the first 2 sockets, since the rest are small and do not play any role.

After that, the mustache must be rooted in pots slightly submerged in the soil, since the closed root system is less susceptible to disease.

Less often, Sibylla is propagated by dividing the bushes. A healthy three-year-old plant is divided into 3-4 parts, leaving full leaves and a developed root on each.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
