Perhaps there is no such summer resident who would not grow strawberries on his site. Caring for it is simple, and the bushes delight with a decent harvest. But the more attention is paid to fertilizing the strawberry, the larger and sweeter the berry will be. Therefore, it is worth learning how to feed strawberries with yeast, what recipes exist, and what time to choose for this.

Pros and cons of feeding

What kind of fertilizers are invented by gardeners and gardeners in order to improve the quality of plants and the quantity of the harvest. Many people know that you can feed strawberries with yeast. But what such top dressing gives, and what it is worth to achieve with its help in the garden, is worth considering in more detail.

Let's look at the pros first.

  • Yeast is rich in fatty acids, amino acids and other chemical elements, which are able to benefit the plants.
  • Strawberries with such dressings will always receive B vitamins, which will make it possible to more actively ripen the fruits.
  • Yeast can be safely called growth activator, thanks to which bushes grow more actively, sockets develop well, mustaches take root better, and the root system is strengthened.

In addition, yeast helps the plant to resist various diseases. All this together improves fruiting.

But at the same time, it should be understood that a measure is good in everything, and if you overdo it, you can get the opposite effect. Therefore, the disadvantages of feeding can appear in this case. Let's consider them.

  • If yeast is used too often in the soil, a lack of calcium and potassium begins to be observed, and the plants must receive all the necessary substances.
  • The solution cannot be stored for a long time. It must be used immediately after preparation, otherwise it will lose its properties.

How to prepare a solution from different yeast?

You can make yeast feeding from different types of yeast. The most commonly used baker's yeast is common, which can be bought at any grocery store. Consider different recipes and the process of preparing top dressing.

From dry

Many people consider the most convenient preparation of an infusion from dry yeast. To do this, you need to dilute one teaspoon of dry powder in a liter of warm water, then add sugar (one teaspoon) and leave for 2 hours. After that, it remains to dilute the resulting mixture with 4 liters of water, and you can start watering.

There is another recipe... Mix one tablespoon of sugar and yeast, add a bag of ascorbic acid, and fill it with a liter of water. Then let it brew for several hours, and then dilute the solution with water in a ratio of 1: 10

From fresh

Live yeast is also used quite often. The recipe is simple. In one liter of water, 50 grams of yeast are diluted. After a few hours, the solution is brought to 5 liters, then used as directed.

If you have compressed yeast, you can grate it for convenience and dilute it with a liter of water. Next, you should let them brew, and immediately before watering, dilute with water. For 500 grams of compressed yeast, 20 liters of water are used.

On bread

Yeast feeding can be obtained using bread and sugar. To do this, it is enough to crumble a loaf of bread, a stale version is quite suitable, but not moldy. Then add sugar and half a liter of warm water. Such a composition will cause fermentation after a while.

But some add yeast for a more reliable effect, although this is not necessary. After insisting for a day, the solution is brought to 10 liters, diluted with water, and the plants are fertilized.

Wheat based

Germinated wheat grains are supplemented with two tablespoons of flour and sugar, a little water is added, brought to a boil, and cooked for several minutes. In order for the mixture to ferment, it is left for several hours. Then it is diluted in 10 liters of water and the strawberries are fertilized.

Hop cones

Hop cones can be purchased at the pharmacy. A glass of cones is poured into a container of water and boiled for an hour. Then add a spoonful of sugar, flour and yeast to speed up the fermentation process. All this is left in a dark place for several hours, then diluted with water, after which they begin garden work.

Preparation

For the feeding process to be successful, you should prepare the strawberry beds properly.... If this happens in early spring, then you need to remove the shelter from the strawberries, conduct a thorough inspection, remove all frozen and dry fragments. The next stages will be loosening the soil, cleaning up the debris left over from the fall. This is followed by mandatory watering, and only then you can proceed directly to fertilizing the bushes.

If feeding occurs during the season, then the preparation will be slightly different. First, you have to remove all the weeds, slightly loosen the soil. If traces of pests appear, it is worth treating the bushes with any means, but if berries are already present, folk recipes are chosen (for example, garlic tincture, ammonia). In addition, you need to walk through the strawberry beds, remove bad leaves, remove excess ones so that the bush spends energy on ripening berries, and not on foliage.

Then the bushes need to be watered, and only after that do all the manipulations with the introduction of dressings.

Do not mix several fertilizer options at once. If it is planned to use yeast infusion, then other fertilizers can be applied in two weeks.

When and how to fertilize?

It is necessary to feed strawberries for a large harvest throughout the season, but not often, but at a certain time... Some gardeners believe that a few dressings per season are enough. It is permissible to use both root dressing and foliar spraying. It must be remembered that the plants should be fertilized correctly, that is, first, watering is necessary, the water must be clean and settled.

In early spring

The first time strawberries are fertilized immediately after removing the covering material, if the beds were protected from frost for the winter. As soon as the beds have been cleaned, the soil has been loosened, you can fertilize with yeast mixtures using one of the recipes. Even if frosts return, the plant will endure this stress much more calmly if it already receives its portion of fertilizers.

During flowering, strawberries are also necessarily fertilized. Flowers appear in late April - early May, and sometimes in June, it all depends on the region of cultivation and the variety of strawberries. Care must be taken when blooming.

In order not to damage the flowers, you need to pour fertilizers carefully under the bush, it is better to postpone spraying until the end of flowering. Watering should also be done carefully.

During fruiting

Ripening berries is just the moment when feeding is needed. The size, sweetness and juiciness of the berry depends on timely fertilization. You can pour fertilizer at the root, as well as spray the bushes. In the process of ripening the berries, the number of watering should be increased, especially if the weather is hot and there is no rain at all.

It is better to do this in the evening, at least in the early morning. In the middle of the day, no manipulations with plants are carried out, this also applies to fertilizers.

After harvest

In the summer, after harvesting, strawberries can be fertilized with yeast additives again, and then just periodically water the bushes, remove weeds, extra mustache, and gradually prepare the plants for winter.

Post-harvest fertilizers are very important as they enable the plant to recover from fruiting and provide the necessary supply of nutrients for the coming season.

Useful Tips

All summer residents carry out top dressing without fail, because without them you should not expect a good harvest. But they are often not recommended to do. Many experienced gardeners believe that three supplements with yeast per season are sufficient. It is very important to do this during flowering and fruiting, the third feeding is at the discretion of the gardener, or the yeast is replaced with other types of nutrients.

When using yeast, do not forget that watering should be abundant, especially during the ripening of the berries. Otherwise, they will be small and tasteless.

Yeast formulations will also be useful and even necessary for:

  • transplanting strawberries to a new location;
  • rooting of the mustache;
  • soaking the seeds before planting in the soil.

As for the composition's aging, opinions differ here. Some prefer to limit themselves to a few hours, others insist the mixture for a day and believe that only then it reaches its maximum benefit. But most importantly, the solution prepared according to all the rules is used immediately, as soon as it is ready. It is definitely impossible to leave it until the next feeding.

Other tips from gardeners will also help.

  • For strawberries to give a good harvest and be healthy, one feeding with yeast is not enough, other options should be used, including nitrogen, phosphorus and potash.
  • It is worth considering that strawberries do not actively bear fruit for a long time in one place. - the berries will become smaller over time, their number will decrease. Therefore, every 5 years you need to update the soil, and ideally look for other beds for strawberries. The bushes must also be new.
  • In order to feast on strawberries for more time, it is better to plant different varieties on the site: early, middle and late. Many people choose remontant strawberries, which bear fruit until autumn.
  • To keep moisture in the ground longer, and watering had to be done less often, gardeners recommend growing bushes on black material, which also prevents weeds from breaking through. This greatly simplifies the care of strawberries, and the beds look well-groomed and neat.
  • You can also use sawdust mulch, it will also allow you to retain moisture in the ground, and the weeds will not grow so actively.
