Despite the fact that the Chamora Turusi variety comes from the Land of the Rising Sun, it has taken root remarkably in different regions of Russia. This variety of strawberries has many advantages over other common varieties.

Description of the variety

One of the special characteristics of the variety is that large and corrugated leaves are painted in a bright green color. Vigorous plants grow rapidly after planting. The bushes are voluminous and spreading, with lush vegetation. They grow up to 30-40 centimeters. Peduncles, like the shoots themselves, are strong and tall, from 0.6 to 0.8 centimeters in diameter. In the first year of the plant's life, the bush forms only 1 peduncle, and starting from the next season, their number increases to 10-15 pieces.

The roots are quite strong and vigorous to cope with the dense green mass and large size of the plant. Whiskers are formed in small numbers, but with their help you can regularly update the berry plantation.

Ripening terms

The berries ripen late, and the fruiting period starts from the end of July and lasts until the middle of the last summer month. Strawberries only bear fruit once a season.

Yield

The Japanese variety will delight you with its high yield. From one plant, you can get from 1.2 to 2 kilograms of fruits that can easily tolerate long transportation.

Berries and their taste

The shape of the fruit can be different, there are both rounded-comb and rounded-conical. Folded berries are also common. A large berry that can weigh 80 to 90 grams. Ripe fruits become burgundy with a terracotta tint. The largest berries are harvested in the first year of fruiting.

When garden strawberries are fully ripe, the flesh becomes pink and very juicy. Evaluation of taste - 4.5 points and 5 maximum. The taste is sweet with a pleasant sour aftertaste. In addition to the high gastronomic qualities, there is a strawberry aroma.

Growing features

On one site, bushes can be grown for 6 years. There are mustaches, but in small numbers. Due to its winter hardiness, the variety can be planted in cold regions. The large size of the plants oblige you to choose a spacious area for them. Leave at least 50 centimeters of space between the bushes, 80 centimeters between the rows. When choosing a multi-row scheme, a planting of 35x60 centimeters is carried out. Strawberries prefer medium watering intensity.

It is impossible to deepen the central outlet, this will negatively affect the health of the plants. Young seedlings are abundantly irrigated, and the land around is mulched. An additional protective layer helps maintain the required moisture level, and also keeps the soil loose for longer after digging.

For mulching use:

  • straw;

  • wood chips;

  • dry foliage;

  • sawdust;

  • needles.

In addition to organic mulch, it is advised to use special reusable materials. Dense non-woven fabrics prevent weeds from growing and berries from touching the ground. Contact with the soil is the cause of the development of many diseases.

In order for the crop to meet all expectations, you need to adhere to the following agricultural rules:

  • the site must always be clean, free of weeds, plant residues of roots and other debris;

  • on a fruit-bearing area, remove all whiskers so that they do not take strength from the plant and thicken the plantation;

  • watering strawberries 2-3 times a week, the frequency of watering depends on weather conditions, you need to prevent the top layer of the earth from drying out, and it is also convenient to use drip irrigation;

  • fruit crops need regular feeding.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

Chamora Turusi's garden strawberries feel great on spacious and lighted areas. Garden beds with fertile and light soil are ideal. Stagnation of moisture must not be allowed, so lowlands are not suitable. For planting seedlings, choose one of the suitable periods: in autumn (in August) or in spring (in April).

The land plot must be prepared in advance, about 2-3 weeks before the start of work. In addition to cleaning and digging, the earth is fed. Organics have become widespread. From 7 to 8 kilograms of compost or humus are used per square meter. Another common component is wood ash at the rate of 0.5 liters per square meter.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

The Japanese variety does not need additional pollination due to bisexual flowers.

Top dressing

The taste and appearance of berries is highly dependent on the regularity of fertilizing. Nutrients are needed not only for the formation of berries, but also for dense green vegetation. When applying fertilizers, it is important to observe the dosage and choose the right time for this.

Summer residents adhere to the following fertilization scheme:

  • in spring, before flowering;

  • after the formation of ovaries;

  • after harvest, in summer;

  • in the fall, so that the plants grow stronger before wintering.

For the first time, nutrients are added after loosening the soil and cleaning the bushes from old leaves. At this time, the plant needs most of all nitrogen, which is needed to build up lush vegetation. For feeding, you can prepare a composition based on chicken manure: 0.2 grams of the product is diluted in 10 liters of water. Fertilizer should be infused for 24 hours, after which it can be combined with watering.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding.Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Strawberries from the Land of the Rising Sun are able to withstand frosts up to 25 degrees Celsius. Some gardeners claim that under a thick layer of snow, the bushes can easily overwinter even at minus 35 degrees. If there are long winters in the area, and the thermometers drop below 25-30 degrees, it is advisable to cover the bushes with straw, spruce branches or reusable non-woven cloth.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

The garden culture is moderately resistant to rot and various fungal diseases. Strawberries are often attacked by brown and white spots. They attack the root system, leaving the plant vulnerable. Symptoms of diseases are spots on the leaves and a deterioration in the appearance of the berries.

Preventive treatment is carried out in the spring, before the plant begins to bloom. Summer residents use drugs against the fungus "Horus", "Oksikhom", "Ridomil". These compounds form a strong protective barrier, preventing diseases from developing. Additionally, you can water the ground with iodine solution. It is easy to prepare, just add 20 drops to a bucket of water.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

It is customary to propagate the Chamora Turusi variety with the help of a mustache. To fill a plot of one hundred square meters, 10 bushes will be enough. With proper care, one mother plant forms from 5-7 to 8-10 rosettes. They quickly take root and take root in a new place, already in the first year of growth they are able to give a rich harvest.

To obtain the maximum number of whiskers, uterine bushes need to be regularly watered and cleaned of peduncles. And also frequent irrigation is needed for quick rooting of the mustache. In the southern regions, they can be rooted immediately in their permanent growing area.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
