The strawberry variety Maryshka came to us from the Czech Republic. The fruit plant takes root remarkably in the central regions of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. In cold climates, bushes are grown in greenhouses or greenhouses. The fruits are usually consumed in their natural form. To preserve the berries, they are frozen for the winter.

Description of the variety

The characteristic features of the garden strawberry Maryshka are compact and low bushes. Despite their small size, these are powerful shrubs with a dense green mass. The leaves are neat, small, with a glossy surface. Peduncles rise above the foliage. During the flowering period, they are covered with medium-sized snow-white buds. The plant forms a large number of peduncles, thanks to which many berries are collected from the bush.

The whiskers are thin, high and long. Shoots are formed in small numbers, but their number will be enough to increase the plantation.

Ripening terms

Strawberry Maryshka belongs to crops with an average ripening period. The fruiting period begins around the second decade of June, although in the southern regions this process starts earlier.

Yield

The yield indicator of the variety is high. Up to 500 grams are harvested from one plant. The harvested berries are excellent for transportability, while maintaining aesthetic and gastronomic qualities.

Berries and their taste

Ripe berries acquire a rich red color with a smooth, glossy surface. Some may turn burgundy. Large berries have a cylindrical, slightly flattened shape. Some specimens expand downward. Fruit weight - from 45 to 50 grams. The appearance of the berries depends on the climatic conditions. The pulp is fragrant, juicy and moderately dense. There is no crunch when eaten. The surface of the berries is strewn with yellow-green seeds.

Tasters note the high gastronomic quality of the harvest. Strawberries are sweet, with little or no sourness. You can smell strawberries in the aroma. The variety was given a rating of 4.8 out of a maximum of 5.

Growing features

Garden strawberry Maryshka has an innate resistance to dry weather. Planting work should be done at the end of July. So the seedlings will have time to take root in a new place and will be ready for the arrival of winter. If the work is done correctly, you can get a rich harvest next year. Spring planting is also used, but you should not expect rich fruiting in the first year, the plant will not have time to reveal its potential.

It is not difficult to take care of plants, the main thing is to follow simple rules of agricultural technology, to monitor the condition of the bushes. Due to its unpretentiousness, this variety is suitable for summer residents without experience.

Despite the innate resistance to heat, Maryshka strawberries love water. The bushes are watered regularly. During flowering and berry ovary, irrigation is carried out at least 2 times a week. A few days before harvesting the fruits, you need to stop watering the plantation - the harvest will be as sweet and fragrant as possible.

After irrigation, on the second day, the soil is loosened. This procedure has a positive effect on plant health and yield. The beds are periodically cleaned of weeds and dry leaves. To retain moisture in the hot season, the ground is covered with mulch. For this purpose, needles, straw, sawdust or peat are suitable. A black non-woven fabric is used as a reusable material.

The whiskers should be removed only on those plants that are not planned to be used for propagation of the variety. The shoots not only litter the plantation, but also take away nutrients and strength from the plant. Removal is done with a sharp knife or secateurs.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

For growing garden strawberries Maryshka choose flat areas that are densely lit by the sun's rays. The area must be protected from strong drafts and shade. The fruit crop prefers fertile soil with a neutral acidity index (from 5.2 to 5.5). Despite the recommendations, strawberries are able to adapt to almost any soil composition.

Gardeners are advised to adhere to this planting scheme:

  • leave between the rows from 40 to 60 centimeters;

  • between bushes - from 30 to 40 centimeters.

Due to the dense green mass, plant care can be difficult, therefore, plantations cannot be thickened.

The site chosen for garden strawberries is prepared in advance. In addition to digging, the soil should be fed. A bucket of manure or compost with the addition of wood ash is used per square meter of territory. To reduce the acidity of the soil, it is treated with dolomite flour or lime at the rate of 400 grams per square meter.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

Bisexual flowers are white, small. The plant is self-pollinated.

Top dressing

Organic matter is used as fertilizer for fruit crops: bird droppings, cow dung and compost. The main condition is to introduce nutrients in a measured and portioned manner. An excess of them will negatively affect the taste of the berries. Top dressing begins in the spring, before the start of flowering and after the end of fruiting. Fertilizers will restore the supply of nutrients that were used to set the berries.

Optimal feeding scheme.

  • Formulations with a high nitrogen content are applied in the spring.Of the finished preparations, the composition "Spring" is often used. Other feeding options: bird droppings (1:20) or mullein solution (1:10).

  • Complex fertilizers are suitable before flowering and at the peak of this process. Substances are introduced at the root. They are diluted with water before adding. For 10 liters, 10-15 grams are used.

  • Fertilizer "Autumn" is used with the arrival of autumn. It is rich in phosphorus and potassium.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The variety has high winter hardiness, however, it is necessary to cover the bushes for the winter within the boundaries of the northern regions. The plantation is protected with coniferous branches or straw. When using agrotextile, small arcs can be installed.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

Garden strawberry Maryshka boasts excellent immunity, it is resistant to most common diseases and pests. Chemical treatments are rarely performed, only if symptoms are present. As a preventive measure for the disease, it is necessary to regularly clean the area, remove unnecessary mustache. It is recommended to plant protective plants such as marigolds, garlic, calendula next to strawberries.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

There are many ways to increase the horticultural plantation.

  • One of the easiest and fastest options is dividing the bushes. For this, large and healthy bushes are chosen. 3-4 seedlings can be distinguished from one plant. New plants can be planted out almost immediately.

  • The second option is mustache breeding. To do this, you just need to root the plant and let them take root in a new place. Young plants need to be watered regularly.

  • Seed strawberries are rarely grown, as it takes a long time. Sowing begins at the end of February. The pick is performed after two full leaves.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
