Growing features

Despite the unpretentiousness of the culture in the care and maintenance, it should be properly planted in the ground in order to get a high-quality harvest.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

It is best to choose a place with fertile black soil or with loamy soil for planting the variety.You should not plant a crop on sandy soil, since strawberries will not be able to strengthen with a root system on it, as a result of which the fruits will either be scarce or there will be no harvest. If gardeners have chosen loamy soil, supplement it with the necessary fertilizers to get a good result.

Jive loves a lot of space, so a wide southern slope and a well-lit area would be an excellent option for the variety.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

The cultivar is self-pollinating, so the plant does not need pollinators.

Top dressing

The first feeding is carried out with the help of nitrogen fertilizers, which gives the plant the opportunity to restore the strength of growth after the winter cold. The best option is a solution with the addition of cow dung. The product must be diluted with water (1 kg of fertilizer per bucket). One plant takes 500 ml of the product. The mullein can be replaced with bird droppings, but in this case it is necessary to reduce the concentration of the solution several times. It should be remembered that the product should not fall on the foliage of the crop.

Sometimes organic matter is replaced with a ready-made humic mixture, which is used according to the instructions. In order for strawberries to bloom well, for high-quality budding, a solution should be prepared from a tablespoon of potassium salt and 2 tablespoons of nitroammophoska. The funds must be dissolved in 10 liters of water and poured 500 ml of solution for each plant.

Foliar dressing is carried out during the flowering period and helps to increase the yield. To do this, you need to dilute 2 grams of boric acid in 10 liters of boiling water.

After the berries are harvested, you can feed the culture with diammophos for a successful ovary of fruit buds. The remedy is sometimes replaced with organic top dressing - wood ash, which is scattered between the bushes. For 1 sq. m of plantings, several glasses of ash are used.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

The variety has a high resistance to powdery mildew and verticillosis, as well as medium resistance to gray rot and brown spot. To completely protect the plant, it is recommended to take preventive measures. To do this, use 1% Bordeaux liquid or folk remedies:

  • Insist 300 g of onion peel in 10 liters of water;

  • Chop 2 heads of garlic thoroughly and insist in a bucket of water;

  • infusion of manganese of pale pink color.

Strawberries are sprayed with these solutions both during fruiting and at other times.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

Some people propagate the variety by seeds, but this is a rather long and difficult process, besides, seed germination is extremely low. The most commonly used method is rooting rosettes and dividing bushes.

If it is necessary to propagate the plant, the bushes get rid of the peduncles. This promotes intense whisker growth. In order for the strawberry to take root, it is necessary to leave strong sockets of the first and second orders, while the rest should be cut off. By the end of summer, the gardener receives a large amount of high-quality planting material.

For dividing, it is necessary to select several strong bushes at the age of about 3 years and divide them into several parts using a sharp, disinfected knife. This procedure is carried out in the spring, you can also propagate the plant in this way closer to autumn. Individual parts will begin development as a full-fledged planting material. It is important to choose good, highly productive shrubs that do not show signs of any disease.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
