Description of the variety

Dessert strawberries bear fruit regularly. The Bogota variety can be grown in various soils, black earth, acidic, ordinary, sandy will do. This allows farmers from different regions to appreciate the strawberries. The main advantages of the variety:

  • late ripening;

  • large and tasty fruits;

  • resistance to pest attacks and diseases;

  • good transportability;

  • fruits practically do not rot.

At the same time, Bogota strawberries are quite demanding on growing conditions. Winter hardiness is low, so the bushes will need to be thoroughly prepared for frost. And also, the soil should not be allowed to dry out, strawberries need watering of medium intensity. The fruits are irregular in shape and size.

Ripening terms

Bogotá strawberries let you enjoy the late fruits. The ripening period falls in July. Sometimes the fruit can be harvested even in August. In this case, seedlings can be planted in April-May. However, if you make planting material in August-September, you can be sure of the yield.

Yield

With regular watering and on fertile soil, strawberries produce many fruits. From one bush, you can get up to 1 kg of berries. The variety is high-yielding. Moreover, the number and size of berries depends on the climatic zone.

Berries and their taste

Bogota strawberries are often eaten fresh or used to make various jams and purees. Large berries with a diameter of about 12 cm can weigh up to 150 g. Such indicators are easy to achieve with proper plant care. Fruit characteristics:

  1. the shape is usually fan-shaped, but it can also be conical;

  2. red fruits have a sheen on the surface;

  3. yellow seeds are slightly pressed into the berry;

  4. the pulp is dense and juicy;

  5. the taste is sweet, with sourness, the berry belongs to the category of dessert;

  6. the crop is well stored, it is easy to transport it over long distances, the berries are weakly susceptible to decay.

Growing features

Seedlings in the form of creeping shoots can be planted in April-May, when the air warms up to + 10 ° C. Leave 30 cm between the bushes, but the row spacing should be 2 times larger. The planting hole 10 cm deep should first be covered with a composition of ash and humus. After deepening the bush, the soil should be compacted, watered and mulched.

After planting and before rooting, water the strawberries every day. It is important that the soil does not dry out until new leaves grow. Then you can simply irrigate the bushes once a week, and in extreme heat - every 2-4 days. When watering, you should count on a bucket of water for every square meter. When the fruits ripen, moisture is done through the furrows in the aisles so that the berries do not get wet.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

The size and taste of the fruits of Bogota directly depend on the growing conditions. The soil should be black earth, acidic, ordinary, sandy. It is important to prepare the soil in advance so that it meets the required indicators. The acidity of the soil should be in the range of pH 5.5-6.5.

If you plan to plant seedlings quickly in September, then in the spring you need to sow the site with siderates. Peas, mustard or rapeseed are used. Plants will loosen the soil, enrich it with useful substances, and will be able to resist various pests. Before planting strawberries, the soil should be dug up, cleaned.

Heavy clay soils are loosened, peat, sand and humus are added. The place itself should be light. If the groundwater runs close to the surface, then the beds are made high. Strawberries should be protected from drafts.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

By the nature of pollination, Bogotá strawberry flowers are bisexual. You don't have to put extra effort into the process. Simply provide access to insects or bees that can carry pollen. It should be noted that the flowers are quite large.

Top dressing

Bogota strawberries need a lot of fertilizer. If you use top dressing correctly, then the soil will always be enriched with nutrients. Fertilizers are absorbed through the root system. The feeding scheme includes three stages.

  1. In the spring during growth. The green mass will increase when using mullein tincture or urea solution. This organic fertilizer contains a lot of nitrogen.

  2. During the growing season. You will need complex formulations and organics.

  3. To prepare for winter. In autumn, a mixture with phosphorus and potassium should be added to the soil.

All formulations should be used according to the instructions. It is important not to increase the dosage. With proper feeding, the bushes not only bear fruit better, but also endure the winter easier. Bogota strawberries grow poorly in the absence of fertilizers.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Strawberries Bogota do not tolerate severe frosts. The mustache must be removed from the bushes, all damaged leaves must be cut off. A layer of hay or sawdust mulch is laid on top. Then spruce branches are thrown over, and the landing is covered with protective material.The stronger the frosts, the more layers you need to do so that the strawberries do not disappear.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

Bogota strawberries have good natural immunity. There is a high resistance to diseases; damage by a strawberry mite is rare. It is necessary to carry out preventive treatments. In early spring, you need to use Fitoverm twice with an interval of 14 days. After harvesting, processing is carried out with "Fundazol", "Switch" or "Bayleton".

Simple preventive measures can help you avoid infections. During fruiting, you should not use aggressive chemistry, it is better to do with folk methods. Special preparations are needed for mass infection with rust or mites. Here are the main ways to protect Bogota strawberries.

  1. Compliance with agricultural technology. Proper watering, feeding and fertilizing will increase the natural immunity of the plant. And also the planting should not be allowed to become too dense.

  2. Mechanical pest control. Bears, snails and slugs attract birds, which destroy the fruits. We'll have to manually set traps, shoot beetles.

  3. Insecticidal plants. You can place calendula or marigolds on the garden bed. This will protect the Bogota strawberries from insects and fusarium.

  4. Biological and chemical substances. They are needed not only for treatment, but also for preventive purposes.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

The simplest method is vegetative, using a mustache. You should leave 1-2 shoots on the bush, wait for rooting and the formation of a rosette with 3-5 leaves. Later, you can separate the scion from the mother bush and transplant it to a permanent place. Bogotá strawberries bear fruit for 3-4 years, therefore it is necessary to reproduce regularly.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
