The domestic variety Bereginya is known to many gardeners. The fruits are eaten in their natural form, used for the preparation of various delicacies: juices, drinks, jams and preserves. Also, berries perfectly tolerate freezing, which is why they can be stored for a long time.

Breeding history of the variety

The garden strawberry Bereginya was obtained by crossing the Gonzago and American Concord varieties. When developing a new variety, specialists managed to combine the best characteristics of mother plants, such as a rich harvest and disease resistance.

Description of the variety

Bereginya's strawberries can be identified by their medium-sized, light green foliage. The surface of the leaves is covered with a glossy film with a slight sheen. Sizes are medium. The shape is concave. Small wrinkles are visible.

The bushes are medium, semi-spreading. The green mass is thick and lush. As a rule, the bush consists of 7-8 drooping leaves, placed on short legs. The volume of foliage depends on the care of the plant and the use of fertilizers.

During the flowering period, large inflorescences are formed on the bush, consisting of a large number of neat buds. Peduncles are lowered and short. The petals are white. A distinctive characteristic of the variety is the pink color of the whiskers, which are formed in large quantities.

Ripening terms

This type of strawberry belongs to the late ripening varieties. It falls in July. The ability to re-bear fruit in one growing season (remontability) is absent.

Yield

The yield of the Bereginya variety is high. With proper care, up to 1.2 kilograms of berries (15 t / ha) can be obtained from one bush. Strawberries are harvested in several waves. Ripe fruits are highly transportable, due to which the crop retains its marketable qualities for a long time. During the fruiting period, the berries remain the same size.

Experienced gardeners note that in the second year it turns out to collect about 600 grams from a bush.

Berries and their taste

Ripe fruits take on a bright, orange-red hue. The form is correct blunt-conical. The neck is missing. Large berries weigh from 30 to 40 grams. Juicy red pulp is dense, but there is no crunch when eaten. Professional tasters gave the variety 4.5 out of 5 maximum points. The taste is sweet, with a delicate sourness. Sugar content - 5.7%, acid - 0.8%, vitamin C - 79 mg%. The berries have a delicious aroma.

Growing features

It is not difficult to care for garden strawberries, due to which the variety is great for gardeners without experience. Bereginya easily tolerates heat and frost. Bushes can be grown in one place for 5 years.

It is advisable to irrigate the plantings in the morning, watering at the root so that the foliage remains dry. Use warm and settled water. It is important to prevent waterlogging of the soil, therefore, watering is carried out only when the soil dries up, about once a week. During fruiting, watering is increased. If strawberries are grown in large areas, drip irrigation is recommended. With this system, the soil will be moistened evenly.Irrigation can be fully automated.

After watering, it is advisable to loosen the upper layers of the soil - this way the root system will receive the required amount of oxygen. In the process of soil cultivation, weeds are removed, which take nutrients from the soil.

As the whiskers grow, they are periodically removed. The work is carried out either in the fall, after picking the berries, or in the spring, before flowering. It is not recommended to skip this point of agricultural technology, otherwise the yield will decrease. If you are going to expand the plantation with a mustache, leave no more than 1-2 shoots to form the first row.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

To enjoy a juicy and tasty harvest, you need to choose the right place for planting berries. An open sunny area without shading is great. The ideal location is southwest or south. Strawberry Bereginya feels great on loose sandy loam or loamy soil. Acidity is neutral.

Before planting, the soil must be pre-prepared. To do this, use different means: humus or compost (10 kg per sq. M.), Superphosphate (100 g) or potassium sulfate (200 g). A distance of 20 cm should be left between the bushes, and at least 30-40 cm should be left between the rows.

The roots of seedlings should be carefully examined, long and rotten ones are removed. The bushes are buried at the level of the central growth bud. The seedlings are placed in a strictly vertical position.

When transplanting young plants in a closed root system, the earthen lump is left intact. After planting, the bushes are watered abundantly so that they quickly take root in a new place. The soil is covered with mulch. Use sawdust, peat or straw.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

The flowers of the Bereginya variety are bisexual. Therefore, the bushes can pollinate on their own. The buds are medium-sized, multi-petaled.

Top dressing

Fertilize strawberries 3 times per season.

  • The first time the seedlings are fed immediately after transplanting into open ground, so that they easily and quickly take root. Choose complex preparations with nitrogen in the composition.
  • Potassium and phosphorus are used at the start of flowering.
  • Organic matter demonstrates high efficiency. It is brought in before wintering.

Garden strawberries perfectly tolerate humus, and instead of chemical compounds, ash or compost can be used.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Despite the frost resistance, it is advisable to prepare the bushes for wintering. In autumn - after harvesting and the end of fruiting - mustache and leaves are removed. It is impossible to cut off the green mass completely, otherwise the growth point may suffer. Maintain a height of 10 cm.

The site is treated with protective equipment and loosened. This will help get rid of the larvae of harmful insects that may be in the ground. Strawberries are covered with earth, and a layer of mulch (pine needles, sawdust or peat) is laid on top.

So that the next year strawberries will delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

Bereginya has an increased resistance to diseases and pests of strawberries (higher than that of other varieties).

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine its condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

There are two ways to increase the strawberry plantation: by dividing the bush or using a mustache. The first option is simpler, but the second is more widespread.

Mustache breeding is chosen for the following reasons:

  • they take root easily and quickly;
  • the variety forms a lot of mustache;
  • young bushes obtained with their help grow rapidly and form a root system.
Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
