Repairing varieties are very popular with modern gardeners. The Baron Solemacher variety demonstrates excellent taste. The berries have an unsurpassed aroma, and the yield is always high.

Garden strawberries can be grown in the middle zone of our country, since they are remarkably resistant to frost.

Breeding history of the variety

German breeders worked on the breeding of the described variety. Alpine varietal strawberries became the progenitor of Baron Solemacher.

The plant appeared by the end of the 30s of the last century. And today it remains at the peak of its popularity.

Description of the variety

The company "Poisk" is in charge of control over the preservation of the original varieties of the described strawberries.

You can grow strawberries in any region of our country. Not only garden plots are suitable, but also greenhouse farms, the variety grows well even on window sills.

Bushes are formed squat, semi-spreading. Maximum height 20 cm.

Leaves of a light green hue grow on the bushes, the edges are jagged. There is a small fluff, from which they appear slightly silvery.

Flowers are small, peduncles are short, always located below the foliage.

After planting seedlings, the first fruits can be obtained in the first year. Over the next four years, the gardener receives the harvest steadily. After that, a transplant is required.

Ripening terms

Baron Solemacher blooms in May, by the beginning of summer the first berries are already ripening.

The berries are harvested by gardeners throughout the season. In the southern part of the country, bushes bear fruit until November, in the rest - until September.

Growing regions

The described strawberry variety grows well in all regions of the country.

Yield

From one bush, you can collect up to one kilogram of berries per season.

Berries and their taste

It is best to start picking berries early in the morning or in the evening, after sunset. Fruits are medium in size, can reach 5 grams in weight. The shape of the berries is conical, the color is deep crimson.

The taste is dessert, reminiscent of strawberry and vanilla.

In order to transport the fruit, it is necessary to harvest them two days before they are fully ripe. This is when the sugar level reaches its maximum. They are transported in the container in which they were collected, they cannot be shifted.

It is best to use boxes or baskets. Fruits are stored in a similar container for up to two weeks, but only on condition that they are cooled to 2 degrees. At the same time, the humidity in the storage room should be at the level of 95%. Ventilation also plays an important role.

Growing features

When the seedlings are ready for planting, they are moved into the ground at the beginning of June. Be sure to select only strong and healthy bushes for planting.

To determine the quality of the planting material, pay attention to the root system. It should be fibrous, at the root collar a diameter of 6 mm.

There should be no damage to the roots.

When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens.Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking about pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

Baron Solemacher is best planted in a sunny location, as the variety loves warmth. An area located in a low place, where the groundwater is too close to the ground surface, is not suitable. The place where potatoes or tomatoes were previously grown is also not suitable.

When the planting area is humid, it is imperative to provide adequate aeration. The bushes will grow over time, therefore, the gap between them is left at 350 mm. The space between the rows is 700 mm.

The growth point is not deepened, but the root system should not be exposed either.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

Pollination is not required for the variety, since bisexual flowers are formed on the strawberry bushes.

Top dressing

Top dressing is applied several times per season. The first procedure is carried out in the spring, March is ideal for this. It is best to use nitrogen fertilizers, including ammonium and potassium nitrate, and even diluted manure.

When green ovaries appear on the bushes, top dressing is applied a second time. Compost, manure slurry, phosphorus salt and potash are suitable.

After picking berries, usually in most parts of our country this is September, poultry droppings, phosphorus and potassium are used as feed for bushes.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The strawberry variety is frost-resistant. Without shelter, it can withstand up to -35 degrees. In this case, there is no need to cover the strawberries.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

If we talk about the most common diseases that affect strawberries and strawberries, and these are rot of various types and spotting, then Baron Solemacher has excellent resistance to them. But this does not mean that you should forget about preventive pollination.

Bordeaux liquid of 3% is treated with bushes in early spring. As soon as leaves and peduncles appear, a solution is made from the same preparation, but already 1% and colloidal sulfur 1%.

During the period of active flowering, re-treatment is carried out with the same preparations.

A solution of "Lepidocide" is advised to use when the berries are actively ripening.

Processing is also carried out after harvest. A solution of Bordeaux liquid 1% is used.

The variety also has good resistance to pests, but if agricultural technology is violated, the bushes can be affected by the strawberry mite. Very effective against it:

  • "Karbofos";

  • "Keltan".

Instructions for use are available for each of these drugs.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine its condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

Strawberries are propagated by several methods. Individually, the gardener chooses the appropriate method depending on the conditions.

The most popular is the division of the bush. From one plant not the first year of life, you can get several bushes.

First, the strawberries are dug out of the ground, then cut into pieces along the points of growth.

The seedlings will take root faster if the gardener spills them regularly and removes excess foliage. Plants grow well in a greenhouse, where the proper level of humidity and air temperature is maintained.

It is very important to protect the bushes from direct sunlight.

If everything is done correctly, following the indicated recommendations, then as a result a powerful root system is formed in a month. Now you can plant seedlings in a permanent place.

The advantage of this method is that you can divide the plants throughout the season. The last date is the end of September. If done later, the bushes will not adapt and will simply freeze.

Another breeding method is seeds. It is worth remembering that the first shoots will appear only after a few weeks, so it is worth planting in a greenhouse early.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
