Silginka honeysuckle is a high-yielding self-fertile crop, which, despite its unpretentiousness, forms juicy, fleshy and aromatic fruits. The culture is able to form a decent harvest even in the regions of risky farming, as it is frost-resistant and undemanding to watering. The harvested fruits are successfully used not only for fresh consumption, but also for the preparation of tasty and healthy desserts, preservation and freezing.

Description of the variety

Silgink's honeysuckle is the result of painstaking work of breeders-practitioners of FSUE Bakcharskoye. A special contribution to the breeding of the culture was made by the breeders Gidzyuk I.K., Savinkova N.V. and Pavlovskaya A.P. The selection works were started by specialists in 2004. The culture appeared as a result of the combination of Tulchaninov's honeysuckle and the Roxanne species. In 2011, the culture was officially registered and went on retail sale.

This variety belongs to high-yielding crops. The harvested crop has a universal purpose.

The plant belongs to tall species, the height of the central stem of which can reach 180 cm. The diameter of the spherical-oval branched crown often exceeds 120 cm. The branches of the plant are straight and elastic, of medium density. Young shoots have straight stems of medium thickness, as well as a green color of the upper leathery layer. The elongated oval sheet plates have a matte structure and a smooth surface. A distinctive feature is the stratification of the bark in adult specimens. The life span of one plant can exceed 30 years.

Advantages:

  • the formation of large fruits;
  • early fruiting period;
  • high level of transportability;
  • high taste indicators;
  • mass ripening of fruits;
  • undemanding to watering;
  • abundant fruiting throughout the life cycle;
  • undemanding care;
  • resistance to diseases and pests.

Disadvantages:

  • separation of overripe fruits from the mother bush;
  • abundant fruit formation only when pollinators are present.

Fruit characteristics

The high-yielding variety produces large, elongated fruits with a pointed nose. The weight of the berries ranges from 1.4 to 2.2 grams. The length of a ripe berry often reaches 4 cm, and its thickness in the center is from 10 mm. The color of the fruit at the stage of technical ripeness is deep blue with a glossy sheen. The skin is thin and delicate.

Particular attention must be paid to the chemical composition of the fruit, which consists of the following elements:

  • sugar - 9.8%;
  • titratable acids - 1.32%;
  • vitamin C - 42.3 mg per 100 grams.

The harvested crop has a high level of transportability and a long keeping period.

Taste qualities

Despite its unpretentiousness, Silginka honeysuckle pleases its owners with juicy fruits with a tender and fleshy structure. This variety occupies a leading position in taste among other members of the honeysuckle family. Juicy and sweet berries have a delicate aroma.

Ripening and fruiting

A distinctive feature of the variety is the amicable ripening of fruits, which can be harvested both manually and mechanically. Due to the massive ripening of berries, they can be harvested once a season, which significantly reduces labor costs and increases the profitability of growing crops.Mature plants produce fruits annually.

Yield

In favorable climatic conditions and in the presence of pollinators, a high-yielding crop is capable of forming up to 3.2 kg of fruits on one bush, and up to 10.6 tons of a high-quality crop can be harvested from a plot of 1 hectare. Harvesting must be carried out promptly and quickly, since overripe fruits tend to shedding, which significantly reduces their presentation.

Honeysuckle pleases the owners of the site not only with a beautiful color, but also with fruits with an unusual taste. When planning to plant it on your site, it is important to learn everything about the fruiting of the bush.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

Silginka's honeysuckle refers to self-fertile crops. To obtain a high-quality harvest next to the shrub, it is imperative to plant pollinator varieties that have a common flowering period. To obtain the maximum amount of harvest, practicing breeders recommend paying attention to the following varieties:

  • Delight;
  • Daughter of the Giant;
  • Yugan;
  • Bakchar Giant.

Growing and care

Silginka's honeysuckle belongs to unpretentious crops that require a minimum amount of attention, especially in regions with moderate climatic conditions. Planting young seedlings should be carried out in early summer or autumn. The planted plants should not be less than 3 years old. The crop should be planted in well-lit areas, protected from strong currents of cold winds. Silginka grows on all types of soil, except for sandy ones. The landing pattern is 1.5 meters x 2 meters.

Only young plants need close care. Adult green spaces require only sanitary pruning, watering during prolonged drought and top dressing. Young bushes immediately after planting should be watered abundantly and the root zone should be mulched. Plants need regular removal of dry and broken branches. There should be no weeds near the bushes. In the second year after planting, it is necessary to feed the seedlings with a complex of mineral and organic fertilizers.

You can plant honeysuckle in open ground in spring, summer and autumn. Best of all, honeysuckle grows in an illuminated low-lying swampy place, while the site must be reliably protected from the wind. It is desirable that the soil is loamy or sandy loam. If the soil is poor, then it will first need to be fertilized.
In order for honeysuckle to bloom and bear fruit well, it needs to be properly cared for. One of the main procedures that affects the appearance and yield of this plant is shoot pruning. Without timely care, bushes prone to thickening rapidly turn into wild thickets with diseased and stunted plants, the number of young shoots decreases, the quantity and quality of berries decreases.

Disease and pest resistance

Due to its unpretentiousness, this variety has a high immunity to most diseases and pests. However, agronomists recommend regularly carrying out preventive treatments of green spaces and promptly removing fallen leaves and rotten berries near the bushes, which are a favorable breeding ground for bacterial infections.

Ignoring preventive measures for processing plants can lead to the appearance of the following pests:

  • aphid;
  • leaf roll;
  • shield.

Plants can also get sick with powdery mildew.

Timely fight against diseases and pests of honeysuckle allows you to grow a healthy crop, used both for decorative purposes and for harvesting fragrant berries. When growing honeysuckle, it is necessary to know the main diseases of the crop, common pests, as well as effective measures to combat them.
In order to increase the amount of honeysuckle in your area, it is not necessary to purchase planting material, it is quite possible to multiply the varieties you like yourself. There are several ways to breed honeysuckle: cuttings, layering, root shoots, dividing the bush, and also sowing seeds.
