The Gornoaltayskoye apple tree has more pluses than minuses, so the cultivation of this variety is extremely popular. The trees give tasty, strong fruits and are not afraid of severe frosts.

Breeding history

The variety was bred at the Lisavenko Research Institute of Horticulture in Siberia in 1937. Its authors are:

  • M. A. Lisavenko;

  • V. A. Sirotkina;

  • I. A. Kukharsky;

  • M.A.Sizemova.

The varieties Ranetka purple and Pepin saffron were crossed. State tests have been carried out since 1949. Included in the State Register in 1959.

Description of the variety

To understand whether it is worth purchasing a seedling, you need to carefully study its characteristics.

Features, pros and cons

The variety is not widely planted in Russia. However, at home, it is extremely popular due to the following advantages:

  • tolerates cold climatic conditions;

  • there is a decent scab resistance;

  • bears fruit regularly and abundantly;

  • apples are extremely tasty and versatile to use.

But, like any other variety, Gornoaltaiskoye also has some disadvantages:

  • if heavy rains begin to pour during the fruiting of a tree, the fruits will not be too beautiful, because from a large amount of moisture, their skin becomes cracked;

  • the fruit is not too large.

Ripening and fruiting

Apple trees are fast-growing, with summer ripening. You can harvest at the end of August. The plant begins to bear fruit in 4-5 years after planting in the ground.

Growing regions

In Russia, the variety is grown in the following territories:

  • West Siberian region;

  • Russian North;

  • Volgo-Vyatka region.

Yield

Apple trees give a plentiful and high-quality harvest. In Gorno-Altaysk, an average of 35 kg can be harvested from one tree in 19 years, the maximum figure is 127 kg. In Barnaul, on average, 28 kg are harvested over 13 years, with a maximum of 162 kg.

Fruits and their taste

Apples are rounded-conical, with a yellow base color and bright red integumentary, with a smooth skin and creamy, juicy, fine-grained pulp. One fruit can weigh about 30-49 g.

Fruits are stored for 20-30 days in conditions that are comfortable for their storage. They have a universal purpose, can be consumed fresh and used to prepare various dishes and drinks.

To obtain a bountiful harvest of fragrant apples, the garden must be periodically renewed by planting seedlings of productive and new varieties. The choice of an apple seedling must be approached with all responsibility, because low-quality planting material at best will not take root, and at worst it will die in the prime of years after numerous investments in its health and normal formation.

Growing features

It is quite easy to grow a culture, you just need to take into account some of the nuances.

Planting apple trees is a very important, troublesome and responsible business. Its survival and full-fledged fruiting depends on the correct procedure. Before planting, you need to choose the right planting material, determine the location and prepare the soil.
A successful grafting helps to solve a whole range of problems, first of all: to get the varieties of interest and save space on the site. The vaccination technique itself is not so difficult and even a novice summer resident can master it. Vaccinations can be done during the entire growing season.
Along with top dressing and pruning necessary for apple trees, watering is also a significant contribution to the correct development of the culture, and therefore to a high yield. Improper watering, carried out inopportunely, without enough water, can bring big trouble to the fruit tree.

Pollination

The variety is self-fertile, so it does not require pollinators to be planted next to it.

Top dressing

When planting a plant in the ground, it is necessary to fertilize it with rotted humus, superphosphate and peat. And also in the first 2-3 years after planting the crop, you need to feed it with nitrogen mixed with water during irrigation.

An important point in caring for an apple tree in the open field is feeding and fertilizing. Top dressing of apple trees begins in early spring and ends in late autumn. Lack of nutrition leads not only to a decrease in the quality and quantity of the crop, but also reduces the immunity of the tree, making it more vulnerable to pests and diseases. And with the autumn procedure, the tree will be able to lay more fruit buds, which will have a positive effect on the future harvest.

Frost resistance

Apple trees have high frost resistance, for which they are valued by many gardeners. If the tree freezes over, it will recover pretty quickly. But you should still prepare the variety for winter (cover with a thick layer of humus or peat).

Despite the fact that apple trees are considered quite unpretentious plants, they still need proper autumn care. Timely preparation of trees for winter makes them more resistant to winter frosts, as well as increase future yields.

Diseases and pests

Gornoaltaiskoe is not afraid of scab, as it has a high resistance to the disease. And also insects are not terrible for the variety. Fungal pathologies are the enemy of apple trees, but the occurrence of such diseases is easy to prevent. To do this, it is necessary to introduce mineral multivitamin complexes into the soil, which include crystallin, nitrophos and ammophos.

And also you need to make sure that there are no "hemp" in which insects can settle. In the process of pruning a crop, you need to use a clean and very sharp tool, and process the cuts using a garden pitch.

The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.

Fruiting of aging trees, as well as the quality of the harvest, decreases. Therefore, if the tree is aging and there is a need to replace it, you need to think about how to propagate the apple tree so as not to lose the variety. For reproduction of an apple tree, several methods are used: by seeds, layering, eyes and cloning (budding).

Review overview

Some gardeners do not plant this variety, as they need the fruits of an ideal presentation. Most often, those who need to grow fruit for commercial purposes are dissatisfied with the variety.Others, despite the disadvantages of apple trees, like this variety. Seedlings are purchased often, because trees give a bountiful harvest and are not afraid of frost at all.

Even beginners can grow unpretentious trees. This is ideal for beginner gardeners who need to practice to breed more whimsical and capricious varieties.
