Breeders around the world are constantly working on the creation of new apple varieties that meet the universal needs of industrial and private gardeners. Recently, a hybrid variety of Jeromini apple has appeared on the international agricultural market. It comes from the well-known Delicious Red line, which has been cultivated for a long time in the countries of Western and Eastern Europe. Apples of this type have a characteristic feature - their flesh is always reddish.

Breeding history of the variety

Jeromini was created at a French experimental station from the original varieties Erawan and Airlie Red. Gardeners of many European farms have already appreciated the novelty, and in Poland a new type of apple is grown in industrial gardens. The Russian State Register has not yet included Jeromini in the list of recommended fruit trees for planting, but new apples are already being successfully grown in various regions of the country.

Description of the variety

Jeromini apple trees quickly enter fruiting - usually in the second year after planting. Thanks to this feature, it becomes a desirable variety in private breeding and commercial plantings of intensive horticulture. A short tree with a branched crown begins to give bountiful harvests from the age of 5. It grows on average about 2 meters in height and becomes a decoration of any garden. By the beginning of October, Jeromini's apple trees are covered with ripe bright red fruits of the same ideal shape, slightly sloping downward. The fruits have a pleasant sweet taste and aromatic raspberry pulp. Trees tolerate lower temperatures in winter and are resistant to disease.

Features, pros and cons

The appearance of the trees and the taste of the fruit distinguish the Jeromini variety from other apple trees. There are a number of advantages of this fruit tree species.

  • Rapid appearance of the first fruits after planting.

  • Large yields from mature trees.

  • Resistant to frost and typical diseases.

  • Excellent preservation, keeping quality and transportability of ripe apples.

  • High appreciation of the palatability of the fruit - 4.8 out of 5 points.

  • Universal use of Jeromini apples both fresh and for processing.

However, the new hybrid has several drawbacks.

  • The need to plant certain pollinating varieties of apple trees next to Jeromini.

  • In a harsh winter, tree trunks should be insulated.

  • Bountiful harvests are so densely hung on the branches that supports must be installed for them.

Ripening and fruiting

A fast-growing Jeromini hybrid can give the first flowers as early as the 2nd year after planting, but to enhance the growth of a young tree, it is better to cut them off. After waiting for the tree to enter an active period of fruiting, in the 4-5th year of growth, you can get from 15 to 20 kg of high-vitamin fruits.

Apple blossoms begin in May, but the timing is specified depending on the seasonal characteristics and the region of growth. In the south - this is the first decade of May, and in more northern regions - the second half of the month. The flowers bloom in friendly white-pink inflorescences, densely showering the branches. During the flowering period, apple trees look like solid white balls.

Trees do not grow at a rapid pace, adding only up to 25 cm in height per year, gradually slowing growth with increasing yields. The fruitfulness of the Jeromini apple tree is gaining gradually, so by the 8th year of growth they can give about half of the maximum yields, and from the age of 14 they reach 100 kg of apples from one tree.

The technical ripeness of apples begins in mid-September. After a month, the ripe fruits may crumble if they were not picked in time. The fruits are perfectly preserved until the next harvest.

Yield

Among the old, well-deserved crop record holders, such as Antonovka, the new Jeromini hybrid does not look like a winner, but for its height and early maturity it is considered a high-yielding one. With the correct implementation of agrotechnical measures and favorable climatic conditions for breeding, from 60 to 90 kg of ripe and unusually tasty apples are harvested from one adult tree.

The hybrid variety is a self-sterile variety, and Golden Delicious, Gala or Fiji apple trees must be planted next to it for cross-pollination. To attract insects, nectar-bearing herbs are sown in the aisles of the garden, or flowering branches are sprayed with diluted sugar syrup.

Fruits and their taste

Ripe Jeromini apples are harvested from the second half of September. The fruits have an ideal rounded shape, tapering slightly downward. The beautiful burgundy-red color of the fruit, with fine white pollination, looks very appetizing and attractive. When biting off the fragrant pulp, one is immediately surprised by its unusual pink or dark crimson hue, the intensity of which is preserved to the very core.

Sweet and juicy apples with a pronounced aroma can weigh about 200 grams each. Due to its resistance to apple scab and other diseases, the fruits are distinguished by their clean skin and the absence of biological damage. They are consumed fresh throughout the season, until the next harvest. Perfect for processing into juices, jams and marmalade.

To obtain a bountiful harvest of fragrant apples, the garden must be periodically renewed by planting seedlings of productive and new varieties. The choice of an apple seedling must be approached with all responsibility, because low-quality planting material at best will not take root, and at worst it will die in the prime of years after numerous investments in its health and normal formation.

Growing features

Jeromini apple seedlings are planted in the same way as other varieties, in autumn or spring. For planting a hybrid variety, well-lit, flat areas are chosen where there are rather fertile and not too heavy soils. First, it is necessary to clarify the depth of the groundwater, so that as the trees grow, they do not begin to wash away the roots. If necessary, drainage measures are carried out, removing excess moisture from the territory of the apple orchard.

When planted between trees in rows, about 4 meters of growth reserve is left. With pollinated varieties, the distance of the apple trees should be at least 20 meters. Sometimes they are staggered to ensure the best possible pollination.

The preparation of a hole 60x60 or 80x80 cm takes place in the usual way, with filling a drainage layer and enriching the soil with nutrients for filling. Usually, compost, ash and peat are added to the soil, and after planting, it is watered abundantly until rooting.

Caring for a new variety consists in timely watering if the weather is dry. Also required: regular weeding and mulching of the root zone. A young tree is allowed to develop freely, but in adulthood, it needs seasonal pruning and cleaning the crown from old, dry and diseased branches. In the spring, mineral fertilizers are applied under the trees, and after the formation of ovaries, they can be fed with organic matter.

Unpretentiousness, high yield, unique decorative, taste and technical qualities of Jeromini apple fruits make this variety desirable for many private and commercial farms.

Planting apple trees is a very important, troublesome and responsible business. Its survival and full-fledged fruiting depends on the correct procedure. Before planting, you need to choose the right planting material, determine the location and prepare the soil.
A successful grafting helps to solve a whole range of problems, first of all: to get the varieties of interest and save space on the site. The vaccination technique itself is not so difficult and even a novice summer resident can master it. Vaccinations can be done during the entire growing season.
Along with top dressing and pruning necessary for apple trees, watering is also a significant contribution to the correct development of the culture, and therefore to a high yield. Improper watering, carried out inopportunely, without enough water, can bring great trouble to the fruit tree.
An important point in caring for an apple tree in the open field is feeding and fertilizing. Top dressing of apple trees begins in early spring and ends in late autumn. Lack of nutrition leads not only to a decrease in the quality and quantity of the crop, but also reduces the immunity of the tree, making it more vulnerable to pests and diseases. And with the autumn procedure, the tree will be able to lay more fruit buds, which will have a positive effect on the future harvest.
Despite the fact that apple trees are considered quite unpretentious plants, they still need proper autumn care. Timely preparation of trees for winter makes them more resistant to winter frosts, as well as increase future yields.

The apple tree is a popular fruit crop among gardeners. It can be found in many summer cottages. But at the same time, such trees are often affected by various diseases. It is very important to recognize the disease in time and carry out the necessary procedures for a speedy recovery. Otherwise, the fruits will be spoiled, and the tree itself may die altogether.

Fruiting of aging trees, as well as the quality of the harvest, decreases. Therefore, if the tree is aging and there is a need to replace it, you need to think about how to propagate the apple tree so as not to lose the variety. For reproduction of an apple tree, several methods are used: by seeds, layering, eyes and cloning (budding).
