Cherry berries can be used to make a fragrant compote, jam, or use as a filling for sweet pastries. The volume of the crop and its quality depend on the correct choice of the variety. Among the wide variety of popular varieties, Molodezhnaya cherry is especially popular. In order to avoid mistakes in the cultivation process, you should carefully read the peculiarities of caring for the variety.

Description of the variety

In structure, the trees resemble massive shrubs. These are low-growing plants that reach a maximum height of 2 to 2.5 meters. The crown is drooping and spreading, which must be taken into account during planting. The branches tilt close to the ground for quick and easy harvesting. Between the trees, you need to keep enough free space for full fruiting and normal development.

The shoots are often intertwined, but due to their flexibility, they do not break under the weight of the berries. The foliage is painted in a rich, bright green color, the size is medium. They are lighter on the bottom than on the outside. On the edges there are teeth of the same size. Flowers grow on bouquet branches and last year's growths. The bark is brown and darkens over time.

In one inflorescence, from 3 to 7 buds are formed. The diameter of the flower is about 3 centimeters. The petals are white. The variety is self-pollinating, as the pistils and stamens are at the same height. The flowering period is from 10 to 20 May.

Fruit characteristics

Molodezhnaya cherries are not considered large, but their sizes are marked as above average. The diameter of the berry is up to 1 centimeter. Weight - 4.5 grams. The shape is oval or wide-round. Fruit color - dark red, burgundy. The juicy and dense pulp is painted in the same shade. Juice prepared from berries will have the same rich color. The separation is dry. Medium-sized seeds are easily detached from the pulp.

If you harvest and store your crops carefully, they will stay fresh for 15-20 days.

Taste qualities

The balanced taste combines sweetness and acidity. Tasting score - 4.5 points out of 5 possible. The high gastronomic quality of the harvest made this variety a leader.

Ripening and fruiting

Berries begin to be harvested from the second decade of July. Ripening dates are medium late.

When growing cherries on your site, you need to know some of the features of fruiting. After planting, the cherry tree usually does not bear fruit for the first few years. Under favorable conditions, this crop can bear fruit in 2 or 3 years. However, you often have to wait 4-5 years.

Yield

The yield is average. An average of 10 to 12 kilograms of juicy and bright cherries are harvested from one tree. Sometimes it is possible to collect up to 15 kilograms. The fruits have a universal purpose.The first fruits appear only 3-4 years after the young trees are planted. With regular maintenance, the fruiting period will last up to 15-20 years. Fruit trees will delight you with a regular harvest every season.

To get the maximum yield, you need to prune in a timely manner so that old and deformed branches do not take away the strength from the tree. If this procedure is not carried out, only peripheral shoots will bear fruit.

Landing

It is advisable to plant in early spring so that the seedlings have time to take root in a new place. An unventilated and densely lit area is the best place for a transplant. The southwest or south side of the garden, next to which there is a building or a high fence, is great. The optimum acidity level is from 6 to 6.5 pH.

The dimensions of the landing pit: diameter 80 centimeters, depth 40 centimeters. The earth is prepared for transplanting in about 6 weeks. A portion of organic matter is placed in the hole. If the preparation is carried out in the fall, during the digging of the soil, it is fed with a composition of potash, phosphorus fertilizers and compost.

The minimum distance between the rows is 3 meters, and the trees are between 2 and 2.5 meters.

Planting material must meet certain requirements:

  • root length - at least 15 centimeters;

  • height - from 70 centimeters to 1.10 centimeters;

  • shoots must be whole and resilient;

  • the root system should have the same characteristics;

  • whole bark, without damage or defects;

  • bright foliage.

These should be healthy and ready-to-plant seedlings of Molodezhnaya cherries. It is advisable to buy trees from special nurseries. Before planting, all leaves and deformed shoots are removed from the cherry, and the roots are dipped into a clay mash or garden pitch. When planting, the root collar should be located 3-5 centimeters from the ground. Young trees are tied up and watered with plenty of water. Once the moisture is completely absorbed, the soil around the trunk is covered with mulch.

For guaranteed survival of a cherry seedling in a summer cottage, all basic requirements should be strictly observed during planting. It is necessary to correctly determine the timing of planting, correctly choose a seedling, prepare a planting pit.
Cherry grafting is an agricultural technique, during which one plant fragment is transferred to another to obtain a new crop with its own characteristics and properties. During the procedure, the aerial part of one tree is spliced with a fragment of another culture. This will increase the yield of the cherry tree as well as increase its resistance to diseases and pests.

Growing and care

Cherry variety Molodezhnaya has a high frost resistance. It is a self-fertile variety that needs sanitary and formative pruning. Work is carried out regularly to prevent thickening of the crown and to cleanse it of sick, broken and infected shoots. It is advisable to cut about 0.5 meters of the crown every year at the top of the plant.

Fruit trees prefer fertile soil with a light texture. Black earth or loam is great. And also cherries can be planted in sandy loam and chestnut soil. The soil must freely pass moisture and oxygen, providing full air permeability. The roots need sufficient oxygen.

It is advisable to feed the trees every year. In the spring, nitrogen compounds are introduced, which contribute to the growth of a healthy and dense plant mass. With the onset of autumn, they switch to phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. And you can also use micronutrient fertilizers throughout the growing season.

Cherry Molodezhnaya prefers regular and timely watering. It is advisable to use warm and settled water. If the trees do not get enough moisture, the berries will dry out and lose their high taste.

In the first year after planting, the cherry does not need additional care.You just need to periodically water the garden and loosen the topsoil.

One of the keys to a good cherry harvest is proper care, a mandatory step of which is pruning. Pruning is one of the simplest procedures, and it doesn't require a lot of tools and time. After the procedure, the cherry tree redistributes a significant part of its vitality to the formation of a crop, which becomes better and more stable.
For abundant fruiting and successful growth, the cherry tree must be fed. Cherry makes rather high demands on the quality of feeding. For it, you can use both organic and mineral mixtures. At each stage of the growing season of a fruit tree, it needs different trace elements.
Cherries are found in almost every garden plot. And if every year she pleases with a bountiful harvest of large and sweet berries, then the question arises about the reproduction of such an effective variety. Cherries can be propagated by cuttings, seeds, layering, grafting, shoots. Each of the methods has its own characteristics.
