For a long time, the lining was associated with the finishing material for saunas and baths. Currently, the use of lining in the interior of an apartment allows you to create original design solutions, to bring the comfort and warmth of a village house to stone cities.

Types and features

Lining is narrow planks that connect "thorn-groove" and are intended for interior decoration of premises, including balconies and loggias. The walls and ceiling are faced with a board.

There are three types:

  • made of natural wood - more expensive, the cost directly depends on the class (from 0 to C);
  • from MDF - also wooden, but, unlike the previous one, glued from shavings;
  • plastic - imitation of wood, artificial material, but cheap and not afraid of moisture.

    Wooden lining is an environmentally friendly material without harmful fumes, it serves as additional sound and heat insulation. Among the disadvantages: afraid of water, prone to deformation and decay. Therefore, additional treatment is required with anti-mildew compounds, moisture resistance agents and flame retardants.

    Plastic lining is suitable for rooms with high humidityeg for bathrooms. It is inexpensive, easy to install, and will hide the rough finish of the walls.

    Yellow lining is not always pleasing to the eye. When you want brighter colors, the boards can be painted. In this case, the service life of the material will increase significantly.

    Interior design

    White is versatile. It is suitable for any interior, it is combined with various colors of the palette, while it itself can have a lot of shades (boiled, cream, ivory and others). For rooms with windows facing north, it is better to choose a warm shade, to the south - a cold one.

    The wood, repainted white, looks beautiful and fresh. The white color itself makes the room lighter, lighter, visually spacious. Perfect for interiors of small and dark rooms. Glossy lining will give the same effect as mirrored surfaces. It will expand the space or stretch it out if you paint the ceiling.

    With the help of lining, you can adjust any room.

    • The vertical arrangement of the finish pulls out, visually moving the ceiling away.
    • The horizontal arrangement expands, the room seems to be longer. Diagonal is an original, but painstaking solution in installation. Such a wall immediately attracts attention. You can apply this method to zoning space.

    White lining is great for decorating a bedroom. Environmentally friendly material will allow you to create a cozy corner of a rustic estate, American country or French Provence, depending on additional decorative elements.

    The white color is calm, it will not burden the nervous system, it will allow you to relax and tune in to rest.

    Which paint to choose?

    If you want to preserve the texture of the wood, then special translucent paints are purchased. Some give the necessary shade, allowing the woody pattern to shine through.

    The following paints are used for painting on wood:

    • water-based;
    • acrylic;
    • oil;
    • scuba.

    Water-based compositions are characterized by low performance properties, but environmentally friendly. Due to the low price and wide palette, they are in great demand.

    Acrylic paints are also in the inexpensive price segment. They are environmentally friendly, do not spread, but have poor permeability. Over time, paint can swell and peel off in places.

    Oil paints dry much faster, hold well, but fade over time. Until it dries, such paint exudes a terrible smell, which can be poisoned.

    Scuba diving combines all the positive aspects of the listed colors. They are durable, dry quickly, and there are no toxic fumes from them. Moreover, they have a unique feature - they repel dirt. A great option for light walls.

    Scuba diving suits are great for painting wooden ceilings. But with all the advantages, they have one drawback - the high price.

    Painting the lining in white

    Not everyone buys ready-made white lining. You can paint it yourself, while choosing the desired shade. All work consists of wood preparation and direct painting.

    The lining must be checked for defects. All irregularities and dirty stains are sanded with coarse sandpaper. The recesses are putty. A soft plastic spatula is selected for work.

    Wood itself is a soft material, so a hard spatula can damage it and leave scratches.

    Then you need to degrease the surface. To do this, wipe the boards with a 3% soda solution. If necessary, you can cover with a layer of antiseptic and other impregnations. Additionally, you can lighten the wood with a lighter stain.

    Before painting, the lining must be treated with a primer. For example, drying oil, but it dries for a long time. In principle, any wood primer will do.

    In the case when the boards have already been painted before, then a new layer can be applied only if there is no peeling and chips. Otherwise, you will have to clean everything up. After that, treatment with soda and a primer should be carried out.

    The lining should be painted with translational movements from top to bottom and only in one direction. It is recommended to dip only the tip of the brush into the paint, and not to wet the roller too much.

    So that there are no smudges and rough smears, it is important to apply the composition in a thin layer and not twice over the painted area. For a more saturated color, 2-3 layers are applied, each new one after the previous one has completely dried.

    If you follow the technology, the lining will be painted evenly. It is important to remember to protect other surfaces from paint ingress. For this, it is better to use masking tape, film or newspapers.
