The description of cast-iron benches can be very important for any owner of a summer cottage or a private house. It will be useful to study the types of garden benches, outdoor benches for summer cottages without armrests, and other models. Particular attention will need to be paid to the sides and legs, supports and base made of cast iron.

Advantages and disadvantages

Outdoor seating has long been an integral part of any park and square, playground and local area. They allow you to improve places near residential buildings and public buildings, public transport stops, the vicinity of shopping centers and supermarkets, small shops and markets.

But it is very important to choose both garden and public benches for practical reasons. And here the cast-iron benches immediately draw attention to themselves. In such products, noble wood and durable, heavy (but also resistant) metal are harmoniously combined.

Heavy construction helps fight vandals. Modern bench designs have a reliable anti-corrosion coating. It prevents the negative impact of the external environment: liquid precipitation, snow, wind, temperature fluctuations.

Among the features of cast-iron benches are:

  • strong, stable supports;
  • long time of operation;
  • mechanical strength;
  • insect resistance;
  • the strength of the connection of parts of the structure;
  • attractive external properties;
  • minimum care requirements;
  • high comfort;
  • relatively short service life of the wooden part (which is largely solved by special processing and replacement of degraded wood);
  • the likelihood of serious injury when hitting the metal, when falling on it, even just an unsuccessful movement;
  • resistance of the material to low and high temperatures;
  • strong heating of cast iron on hot days and excessive cooling during bad weather (especially in winter).

What are they?

A cast iron bench can be made with a back, although this is not at all necessary - models without such a part give an excellent result. It is also worth noting the presence of a number of versions without armrests and sidewalls - this is not very convenient, but it allows you to simplify and reduce the cost of the design. The length of the product varies from 1.5 to 4.3 m.

You can also diversify the appearance due to color - cast iron is compatible with all types of dyes. If you place an individual order, you can get a completely unique product.

Despite the fact that street cast-iron benches seem to many to be of the same type, in reality this is far from the case. Park versions are true classics of the genre. They are always carried out in the form of a massive, open externally structure. It is convenient to rest on such a seat for a short time. The park model will harmoniously fit into any square and park (hence the name).

City shops look different. They are usually placed on sidewalks with busy pedestrian traffic, at the entrances to squares and alleys, near various attractions. Such products are often made with wood not in the form of simple boards or planks, but in the format of elegant carvings. The presence of original curls and forged elements is encouraged. The latter create the feeling of a light and airy product.

Separately, it should be said about the street benches. They are distinguished by their strength and functionality, and are simple in design. No special care is required for them. Garden seats are usually made by casting.This method provides visual aesthetics and excellent inclusion in various styles, transformation or addition of landscape design.

As well as classic supports (legs), the cast iron bench can have and monolithic metal base. The choice between such designs is largely a matter of personal taste. But it should be noted that this directly affects the total weight of the structure and the ease of handling it. And even the legs themselves can have different thicknesses and shapes. Of course, if the bench itself is obtained by casting, then the cast legs fit it in the best way.

When it comes to retro-styled benches, don't think that they are old-fashioned and do not fit well with modern furnishings. On the contrary, it is the classic solution that will be more practical than most other options. This style was not without reason popular with several generations. The wood is artificially aged. The cast iron part is patinated or greened.

Nuances of choice

When choosing a bench for a summer residence, you must take into account its price. It must exactly match the complexity and dimensions of the product. And the dimensions themselves are selected taking into account the available space, convenience and aesthetics (so that the bench does not seem too large or is not visually lost against the background of other objects in the garden, on the site). The height ranges in most cases from 0.7 to 0.9 m.

If you want to achieve the most original appearance, you can order legs or other supports separately from the shop itself.

It is best to contact the manufacturers directly or to those firms that directly cooperate with them. It is imperative to require the presentation of official certificates. The length is selected taking into account the number of people who will have to freely sit on the bench. When buying, pay attention to how well the metal and wood are processed, because burrs and splinters are very unpleasant. Finally, it is worth considering the color and geometry compatibility with the surrounding details.
