In the modern construction market, a special category of goods is represented by products, the main advantage of which is a successful imitation. Due to the inability to afford something of a higher quality, natural and traditional, people acquire a compromise option. And it becomes a finishing material or other construction product, which is outwardly difficult to distinguish from the material that has become a model. So it happened with the profiled sheet under the stone - a convenient, inexpensive and popular product that is used in various fields.

Advantages and disadvantages

A professional sheet is the material that can successfully complete the image of a building under construction. If you did not save on finishing the facades, but funds for the roof, fence or gate are already limited, it is quite possible to turn to a professional sheet. Even because it is an imitation material. If it is made under a stone, then only at close range it will be possible to see that it is an imitation with the desired print.

The main advantages of the profiled sheet:

  • durable material that guarantees long-term protection;
  • resistant to aggressive environmental influences;
  • does not allow steam and water to pass through;
  • lightweight;
  • resistant to alkalis and acids;
  • has good sound insulation properties;
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • not covered with lichen and moss;
  • considered a budget option;
  • print quality allows the drawing to remain in its original form for years.

To summarize, the main advantages of the profiled sheet will be its reliability and availability, both in terms of the prevalence of the material on the market and in terms of price. Othe main drawback of the material, which, indeed, should be noted, is the difficulty in leaving. If dirt gets on the surface, it will not be easy to wash it off. And the profiled sheet is quite easy to scratch. But the scratch will not be visible to the human eye, but will be felt tactilely. A strong blow will leave a significant dent in the metal sheet.

People choosing this product might like to build a real stone fence, but this is an expensive project. A sheet of corrugated board will cost several times cheaper. And it can also be fixed simply on steel poles, supports and logs. If we compare such a construction with stone cladding, the latter is much more troublesome - a concrete or brick base will be required.

The speed and ease of installation of the profiled sheet is also its advantage. If you trim the same fence with flagstone, repairs can take weeks.

How do they do it?

The professional sheet is a metal base, the thickness of which is 0.5-0.8 mm. The thicker the sheet, the more expensive it is. A protective coating is necessarily applied to each sheet, so that the material is not afraid of rust. The same coating makes it more weather resistant. The protective layer can be alumosilicon, zinc (hot or cold), aluminozinc. Sheets with zinc and aluzinc coating have become widespread.

A polymer layer is applied on top of the profiled sheet. Thanks to this layer, the color and pattern of the sheets are different, which is good for the buyer in terms of choice. This polymer coating made it possible to imitate the profiled sheet - in the described example, under a stone.

Sectional profile sheet is:

  • metal base;
  • layer with anti-corrosion characteristics;
  • passivation layer - oxidants act on the anti-corrosion layer, and it gains strength;
  • soil layer;
  • polymer decorative layer.

Even if you use the profiled sheet for a long time, there will be no delamination of the sheets - the structure of the material will remain intact. And this feature of the production of sheets also attracts many buyers: the likelihood that the brickwork will be deformed is rather higher than the risk of destruction of the fence, gates, balconies, finishing of the basement and other structures of the house made of profiled sheet.

Species overview

The main classification assumes 3 types of profiled sheet: roofing, wall and bearing. Roofing is used for finishing the roof, has the designation N. It is used exclusively for roofing work, the material is waterproofed, soundproofed, it is not afraid of thunderstorms and other meteorological conditions. It is mainly used in the design of the roofs of private houses. The wall profiled sheet is marked with the letter C, and the carrier - NS. The carrier is used only to create partitions.

Each manufacturer offers its own material design options - colors and patterns. The range of colors is replenished every year with new options: from white brick to wild limestone. The more the print resembles a natural version, the better.

It is not enough today to choose a material simply painted in gray, white or beige - a more accurate imitation is needed. For example, under a rubble stone - and this already depends on the quality of the polymer layer.

Technological varieties of profiled sheet:

  • Ecosteel (otherwise, ecostal) - this is a coating that successfully imitates natural color and texture;
  • Printech - steel sheet with a thickness of half a millimeter, having double-sided galvanizing, on which layers are applied stepwise (chrome plating, primer, offset photo printing, transparent protective acrylic layer);
  • Colority Print - this is the name of a polyester layer of 4 different shades, which is applied in several layers by offset printing, the pattern is clear and stable, as accurately as possible imitating natural masonry or brickwork.

It is very important to check if the product meets the quality standards. The seller is obliged to present a certificate of conformity at the buyer's request.

Dimensions (edit)

The dimensions depend on the purpose of the sheets. If this is the material from which the fence will be made, its length will be 2 m. If the sheet material needs to be adapted to the dimensions of a particular wall, you can find an option in the building market and contact the manufacturer directly. That is, it is quite common practice to make a batch of sheets according to individual sizes, but the price of a metal sheet will, of course, rise.

The standard width of a profiled sheet with masonry is 1100-1300 mm; specimens with a width of 845 mm and 1450 mm are less common. The length of the material is usually also standard, but if you search, you can find sheets of 500 mm and even sheets of 12000 mm.

Applications

Decorative colored metal sheet is not only able to serve the roof for a long time and efficiently. There are typical ways of using profiled sheets, there are also rare, even author's finds - for example, for interior decoration. The most popular cases should be described.

For fences

Fences made of profiled sheet under a stone are usually constructed solid; profiled pipes are used as pillars. And thus it is possible to create an extremely accurate imitation of a fence with an allegedly natural cladding. Other options for fencing are less common, because it will be more difficult to make them as convincing using a professional sheet. Although sometimes the material is found as one of the sections in a combined type fence. And it can be a fence made of bricks and material that imitates it.

If you want to connect a brick and an imitation, they usually do this: only support pillars are made of natural material, but a brick base is almost never found. A popular option is fences made of profiled sheet that imitate wild stone.

The color palette and design help such structures to look quite interesting, although perhaps not particularly bright.

For gates and wickets

This use of a profiled sheet cannot be called widespread, but such options are still found. Perhaps this decision is resorted to by the owners who made a fence from a professional sheet, who decided not to highlight the gates and wickets against this background, but to sort of merge the structure together. The solution is not the most popular, but it takes place. Sometimes this is done if you do not want to draw too much attention to the house, and the entrance center is slightly disguised as a general view of the fence.

For finishing the base / plinth

Foundation sheathing is a more common option than the decision to make a gate out of a profiled sheet. The basement is finished with plaster, or the subfloor of a house built on screw piles is closed. In the first situation, the metal profile will be a decorative finishing layer that has both waterproofing and insulation under it. Such a "sandwich" will insulate the lower part of the house, reducing heat loss that could go through the basement.

If the profiled sheet for the basement is used in a building on screw piles, then, apart from finishing, nothing is required. The profiled sheet will be fixed exclusively from above, but from below you will have to maintain a gap of 20 cm, which will eliminate risky soil heaving and organize underground ventilation.

For facade cladding

Probably, it is easy to guess that a house trimmed with a professional sheet under a stone is a very rare case. And this can be understood - the material is not a facade, such a cladding will look tasteless and will not be able to compete with natural materials at all. Only sometimes such projects turn out to be successful: but this is taking into account the design of the house, the selection of the professional sheet (usually the "slate" variety).

If the material fits into the overall project, does not come into conflict with the surrounding landscape, and, most importantly, the owners themselves do not see any contradiction, there are simply no technical reasons not to use the material.

For balconies and loggias

Someone says that it is ugly, not fashionable, and there are many alternatives. But demand shows that the professional sheet on the balcony is no exception to the rule. And even when compared to standard siding, it can win this battle. This dispute is resolved only by specific examples: it all depends on the decorative qualities of the sheet itself - perhaps they really will seem more interesting than boring siding. And, of course, it is important that such a balcony is not a “revolutionary” against the general background and somehow harmonizes with the space.

Care Tips

The material does not need any special care. It is designed to be resistant to external influences, durable, and therefore it is not required to constantly wash or clean it in principle. But from time to time it will have to be done. Because if, for example, you put a fence from a profiled sheet, and do not touch it for years, then it will be almost impossible to remove the accumulated dirt. Particles of dirt will get into the cracks, and picking them out is a big problem.

Here are the rules for caring for a structure from a professional sheet.

  • The contaminated surface can be washed with an exceptionally mild, warm soapy solution. It is forbidden to use any abrasive, since the deformation of the metal surface with a polymer layer will not be long in coming. Therefore, rags that will be immersed in a soapy solution should preferably be cotton, soft.
  • If possible, surface maintenance should be monthly. It is not necessary to scrub the metal thoroughly; standard wet cleaning is sufficient, which will help remove dirt that has not yet been embedded in the surface. Seasonal care is also encouraged when, after winter, the structure is washed out, cleaned and gleams with spring.
  • Spray guns can be used. In one - water with soapy water, in the other - ordinary water, cooler than the first. If you have to wash a large area, this method will be faster and more efficient.
  • The profiled sheet is washed well if the dirt on it is fresh and not numerous.Stubborn dirt will have to be wiped off with effort, using harder brushes and more powerful means - and this cannot be done. Therefore, the principle “less is better, but more often” will be the correct guide to action.

Inexpensive, affordable material with a large number of colors and prints, easy to install and reliable - this is the professional sheet. Fences, garages, gates, roofing, basement, balconies have changed their appearance more than once with the help of imitation material. A worthy choice!
