Stretch ceilings have become one of the innovations of our era. They are also used in wooden houses. In new buildings, before their installation, they wait until the foundation completely subsides. Sometimes it takes several years. There are no other similar restrictions for the design, but you will learn about the basic installation rules right now.

Advantages and disadvantages

Compared to a conventional ceiling in a log house, suspended structures allow you to expand the list of styles that can be used for its decoration.

The smooth surface not only serves as a decoration, but also performs some of the functions:

  • protects against sudden roof leaks;
  • hides the flaws of the main floors;
  • provides sound insulation.

Due to the high humidity, mold, mildew, condensation cannot appear on the coating, as on a regular ceiling. However, it is worth considering that such an attack may appear between the overlap and the structure, because the film does not allow air to pass through.

Other pluses also include:

  • ease of installation - takes several hours;
  • ease of maintenance of the canvas;
  • durability - from 10 to 25 years, subject to the rules of operation.

However, if the house is not regularly heated, the PVC sheet will begin to deform. Sharp shavings and chips falling from the floors can severely damage the canvas: cut it, form holes, after which no repair of the film will help..

These problems can be avoided by living in the house permanently. Then, before installation, the surface of the wooden ceiling is treated in advance with protective compounds, and the type of canvas is selected with properties that correspond to the microclimate of a particular room.

Stretch ceilings reviews are mostly positive.

Features of preparation

In a private house, you need to pay attention to the materials from which the wooden walls are finished. If they are sheathed with plasterboard, clapboard, then fastening the frame under the film will be installed easily.

Rounded timber, on the contrary, will complicate the work of the master.

Some of them insulate the top floor. This reduces temperature changes that can adversely affect the condition of the canvas: it can sag in the heat or crack in severe frosts. If there are leaks, the roof is repaired.

It is necessary to check how the wiring is installed. Overheating of the cable or wires in the immediate vicinity of the web can deform it or cause a fire.

Depending on the height of the ceiling, choose the type of construction. It doesn't really matter which profile is used, but plastic is more elastic: it can adapt to the bends of the wooden wall cladding.

If the house is completely new, they wait two years until the foundation will settle.

Choice of canvas

The modern stretch ceiling market offers three types of coating: glossy, matte and satin. Gloss is able to visually enlarge the space, make the room higher, thanks to its reflective properties. The matte surface is a versatile solution for all types of premises. Satin is closer in appearance to the previous one, but more sophisticated, looks very stylish.

The stretch ceiling can be equipped with light sources.

It should be borne in mind that the use of spots will increase the distance between the film and the rough ceiling from 3 to 12 cm, depending on the type of devices, wiring and type of canvas.

Film width is an important characteristic. For large rooms it is better to use fabric canvases, they have a standard width of 5 m. But PVC and its derivatives have different values - from 1.2 to 4 m. However, the problem is easily solvable. In the case of a prefabricated covering, the edges are simply joined: with the correct processing, the seams are barely visible.

Temperature regime

It is worth paying special attention to the composition of the canvas. The operating temperature for PVC sheets is within the range - from +5 to + 50 ° C. Fabric ceilings are more expensive, but they also have a greater margin of safety. They retain their appearance and properties at both -50 and + 40 ° C.

The presence of a stove in the room as a whole does not affect the change in the characteristics of the canvases. It is only necessary to take precautions in the immediate vicinity of the pipe to ensure optimal temperature conditions.

Install any kind of PVC film stretch ceilings using special equipment - a heat gun. The preservation of the quality and appearance of the canvas depends on the correctly selected temperature. The process does not take long. Before the main assembly, the room is heated to + 40 ° C, and the materials are stored in another room.

The tension occurs when the vinyl film is heated to + 70 ° C, so you need to be extremely careful. It is better that these works are carried out by a master who has experience in installation in wooden houses. Fabric ceilings do not require heating.

Ceiling shape

The design of ceilings provides for a wide variety of designs: simple, classic, complex, futuristic.

The interior design is usually chosen by the owner, according to his taste and imagination. But you can ask for help from a specialist who will advise the best design solutions.

In wooden houses, due to the plasticity of materials, stretch ceilings are possible:

  • One-level canvas for the full area of the room.
  • Stretch ceiling, divided by beams.
  • Multilevel configurations, with division into small sections, zones.
  • Caisson.
  • Arched tension structures.
  • "Starry sky".
  • With built-in stained-glass windows.
  • Complex shapes.

Assembly

The room is measured, and the material is fixed using a profile. Then they are connected to the base angle and beams, after which they move to the opposite corner, continuing the fastening. The frame is installed, fixation is made in the baguette. The fabric is pulled slowly to fix the corners.

If the house is made of timber

Wood is by no means a simple material. In houses built from timber, stretch ceilings are practically not installed. This is a very difficult job that requires the skills and dexterity of the person who takes on this business. In this case, you should pay attention to the following recommendations:

It is necessary to install a ventilation duct, since false ceilings do not allow the tree to breathe. It is for this reason that mold is formed, fungi appear.

The film is stretched with a heat gun, but fire should be avoided.

Boards and logs are treated in advance, several weeks in advance, with special impregnations, which will reduce the risk of fire.

Before starting work, the ceiling is leveled, processed. The baguette is cut at a certain angle. Then the joints are glued. For ease of installation, you can make a substrate from the boards. The wood is easy to drill, holds screws perfectly. There is no need to waste time on fixing the dowels.

Fastening a bar with a baguette in the middle is not used, since the next fastener will be at the junction of the logs, which is unacceptable. When marking a little further, the skipping line in width will become slightly less than the middle. This type of work will require a good master with the necessary experience, skill and skill.

If there is a stove in the house

It is necessary to protect the baguette and canvas from overheating.

The furnace does not interfere with the installation of structures, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • you will need to mount a drywall box;
  • secure the mortgage.

The coating will have to be washed more often, but soot, smoke residues are easily washed off with water and any detergent. Do not use abrasives and aggressive substances, acids, so as not to leave scratches and dissolve the material.

Remove condensation

The way out here will be the installation of natural or forced ventilation. Usually, two ventilation grilles are installed at the edges of the canvas located diagonally. This reduces the pressure drop and condensation stops accumulating. Even before installation, immediately after the completion of the construction of the house, special impregnations from fungi and mold are used. They are used to process a wooden surface.

If film structures are mounted in wet rooms: bathroom, kitchen, then steam will accumulate on the surface without penetrating into the tree, which will turn the minus of the material into its plus.

Roof leaks

In the event of a flood, professionals can handle it. A repair team is called in to unfasten the canvas in one of the corners. The accumulated moisture will be drained. It will take some time to dry the wet ceiling, and then the corner of the canvas is attached back.
