Working with electricity is a life-threatening activity. Therefore, when performing any actions related to the physical phenomenon under consideration, it is necessary to provide yourself with protective equipment. These include dielectric galoshes and gloves. The latter will be discussed in more detail in our article.

Peculiarities

Their main feature is that they are made of materials that do not conduct electricity. They are made from latex and special dielectric rubber. You can use one pair of gloves for no more than a year, while all operating rules must be observed.

Another distinguishing feature of such gloves is that, unlike conventional rubber gloves, protect from cold and external influences on the skin of the hands... Wearing warm mittens from the bottom, the worker can perform work in them on the street even at sub-zero temperatures of 30 degrees. They will protect hands from deep scratches, light burns and harmful impurities.

The gloves in question can be of two types.

  1. For electrical equipment up to 1000 V. They are used as the main means of protection when working with electricity. In no case should they be used at voltages above 1000 V. During their production, the value "Ev" is set.
  2. For installations over 1 kV. They belong to additional protective equipment. They are used when working with electrical installations over 1000 V. In such cases, the main means of protection are: insulating tongs, high voltage plates, instruments for measuring voltage and current, etc. These gloves are marked with "En".

Such gloves do not need to be folded around the edges - they must be fully worn. You cannot lower the sleeves of clothes on them - only pull them on top.

What are they?

The choice of models of such gloves is not very large. When working with electrical installations, you can use two-fingered or five-fingered gloves. In addition, they come with a seam (danced) or seamless.

  • Two-toed... These are products with a separate compartment for the thumb and another one of the same for the index.
  • Five-fingered... They look like ordinary gloves (with compartments for each finger). Thanks to this, it is more comfortable to work in them, the fingers are free and do not hinder movement.
  • Seamed or seamless. As noted above, they can be latex or made of special compacted rubber. Unsurprisingly, seamed gloves are lighter and more comfortable to use.

For any model of gloves, their length should be at least 35 cm.

How to choose?

Despite the seemingly simplicity of the models and the narrow purpose of dielectric gloves, when choosing them, several points must be taken into account.

  1. The gloves must be sure to indicate what voltage level they correspond to. In no case should this requirement be ignored.
  2. The products offered must be free of any defects. The presence of irregularities in the material or, conversely, any other rubber residues is not allowed. If you buy an option with a seam, then the seam should be even and with the same stitches, there should be no loose ends of the thread or a break in the seam.
  3. When working outdoors in the cold season, products are selected one or two sizes larger. This is necessary so that warm knitted gloves can be worn under them.
  4. And of course, it is better to buy products directly from manufacturers.This guarantees product quality and compliance with the expiration date. In addition, the price in this case will be lower than that of other sellers.

There are a few more rules to take into account that must be followed so that the selected dielectric gloves serve properly for the entire period and guarantee reliable protection.

  1. Before using them in work, the products must be carefully inspected from all sides. They must be free of dirt or moisture.
  2. Before direct use, they must be checked for leaks. Even micro-holes are not allowed, otherwise they will pass electric current.
  3. The edges of the products must not be tucked up during operation. Do not leave part of your hand unprotected.
  4. During the entire period of use, they must be washed periodically. To do this, you can use a soap or soda solution. Then rinse and dry thoroughly.

When working with electrical installations, dielectric gloves are a mandatory means of protection. Their correct selection and application will guarantee protection against electric current.
