Dielectric gloves protect hands from electric shock. From the material of this article, you will learn what features seamless varieties have, how to choose and use them correctly.

Peculiarities

Dielectric seamless gloves are part of the electrical equipment. They are used when working with electrical appliances and electrical cables. Protective equipment is needed when you need:

  • disconnect / connect a pantograph with a voltage of more than 800 V;
  • replace the high voltage fuse;
  • replace the lighting fixture;
  • disconnect the terminals of the transformer;
  • work with a reversible valve element.

Dielectric seamless gloves make the safe work of electricians servicing electrical installations, power lines, electrical equipment.

Moreover, depending on the variety, they can become a means of additional protection if the voltage exceeds 1000 V.

If they are sized to fit, they retain their full user experience.

These PPE are subject to the developed safety requirements. Gloves made by the method of seamless casting are comfortable to work with. They are used by professionals, performing work of different levels of complexity. The range of products is small, however, the choice requires special care. The slightest mistake can result in injury due to electric shock.

Dielectric gloves are tested twice a year. The tests are carried out in a laboratory under special conditions. At the same time, special containers with liquid are used, immersing gloves in them so that the water is not only outside, but also inside. Moreover, the straightened upper edge of each pair should not be immersed in water by at least 5 mm. Within one minute, a voltage of 6 kV is applied.

In this case, the leakage current should not exceed 6 mA. After the test, the gloves are dried in a special chamber, then they are stamped with the indication of the period of use until the next check. On average, the cost of testing one pair can be 195 rubles, provided that it is carried out within 5 days. If you wish, you can check the pair in 1 day by paying 295 rubles.

Varieties

Dielectric seamless gloves can be classified according to two criteria: the material of manufacture and the number of fingers. Personal protective equipment is produced from mixed rubber-based materials (sheet rubber or latex). Thanks to the use of natural raw materials, the products do not irritate the skin of the hands and do not cause allergies.

Latex and rubber dielectric gloves are available in different sizes. It is selected in such a way that it is comfortable to work with gloves.

Models for operation at subzero temperatures are wider.

This is done so that jerseys (for example, knitted leggings or warm mittens) can be worn under the gloves.

According to the number of fingers, products are traditional five-toed and two-toed. Options of the second type are less convenient, five-fingered ones do not limit the user's work. When choosing one or another option, one must not forget about the voltage level. Based on this, the products are divided into 2 groups: "Ev" and "En".

According to GOST 12.4.103-83, the marking "En" indicates that the product can be used as a means of protection against current at voltages up to 1000 V. The “Ev” mark indicates that the gloves are suitable as additional protective equipment for installations with a voltage of more than 1 kV. Moreover, they are used with electrical insulating tongs and rods.

How to choose?

There are several key criteria to consider when choosing dielectric gloves. For example, high-quality rubber products for operation with voltages up to 1000 V and more than 1 kV have 2 layers of different shades. Number markings are on the outside of them.

According to GOST standards, dielectric gloves are common, as well as designed for particularly delicate or, conversely, tough work. PPE is not at all universal: you need to buy those products that fit the purpose. For example, products intended for rough work should have a wall thickness of up to 9 mm. Analogs for fine work should not be thicker than 4 mm.

You need to buy models in which leggings can be easily put on warm or knitted mittens.

The optimal length of dielectric gloves should be at least 35 cm (measured from the tip of the index finger to the edge of the product).

It is important to buy products in size, taking into account the gloves or gloves worn under them. PPE that is too large can complicate the user's work.

As for the type of products, it all depends on the purpose. Sometimes two-toed varieties can also be used for work. When performing delicate work, one cannot do without modifications of the five-fingered type. When choosing your option, you need to pay attention to the quality of workmanship. The supervised pair should not have any residual traces of production (for example, protruding rubber fibers, as well as other defects).

Terms of use

Only gloves that are stamped with the specified test report can be used. In this case, the products should not have mechanical damage. Do not use wet or dirty PPE. Before starting work, you need to check the products for punctures or cracks. For this, gloves are placed on a flat surface and twisted towards the fingers.

Gloves should be inspected before each use. If everything is in order, they can be used for six months from the moment of the inspection, after which they must be retested. If the inspection reveals cracks or punctures, the gloves should be replaced with new ones.

Tarpaulin gloves can be worn to protect gloves.... During work, care must be taken not to wrap the edges of the gloves. This compromises the user's safety. Do not inflate gloves with your mouth, this may cause them to become wet.

Disinfection cannot be ignored either, for which a solution of soda or soap is used. Gloves should be worn over clothing. When working near sharp edges, leather gloves should be worn over dielectric gloves.

Retention rules cannot be ignored. Rubber degrades when exposed to heat, gasoline, mineral oils, ultraviolet rays and alkali solutions. Store products away from heating devices and radiators, not forgetting about the optimal level of humidity. Do not store gloves in direct sunlight.
