Among modern varieties of raspberries, a special place is occupied by a Polish selection. Development began in 1979 at an experimental station in Brzezna. Since then, a number of excellent varieties have been developed, which are in demand in many countries of the world. The early maturing Radzieva variety (Radziejowa or Rubus daeus Radzieva) is considered a promising novelty.

Breeding history of the variety

It was bred by the efforts of the renowned breeder Jan Danek in collaboration with Doctor of Biology Agnieszka Orzel at the Experimental Chair of the Institute of Horticulture in Brzezno. In addition to Radziev, the result of their joint work was the popular varieties Sokolitsa, Poem, Polonez. In 2010, the variety was included in the National Register of Fruit Crops in Poland. Radziev was obtained by crossing the Polish Laszka, Polana and the British Malling Promise raspberry. The variety owes its name to Mount Radzeev in the Beskydy Mountains, located in the famous Carpathians.

Description of the variety

Radzieva is an ultra-early, high-yielding, not too winter-hardy, but disease-resistant, multi-purpose raspberry variety with large bright red fruits of a dessert taste.

Ripening terms

Fruiting of the variety starts early, in early to mid-June (slightly earlier than the Lyachka variety) and stretches until the beginning of autumn. If recurrent frosts occur in April, then the buds may freeze: bald spots form on the affected shoots, and a small berry grows. The earliest and most flawless harvest can be harvested when grown in a greenhouse.

Growing regions

In Poland, the variety has begun to be actively cultivated on commercial open planations and in greenhouses. Well Radzieva grows in Europe, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic countries. There are still few reviews from Russian gardeners. Apparently, Radzieva will feel good in the southern regions (but not arid), in the middle zone, in the Urals. A large Siberian nursery VASKHNIL successfully grows this variety in greenhouses and offers seedlings for sale all season: from April to October.

Yield

Radziev gives a rich harvest of almost one-dimensional fruits of excellent presentation. You can collect 3-6 kg of berries from a bush. One fruit branch (lateral) contains about a dozen berries. Gathering raspberries is comfortable: Radziev has few thorns, they are short and soft. High transportability: raspberries do not flow and do not lose their color brightness during transportation and storage.

Berries and their taste

The berries of the Radziev variety are large, heavy (average weight 6-8 g, sometimes up to 10 g), the color varies from dark pink to deep red-raspberry, with almost no shine. The shape is conical, elongated. The pulp is fragrant, juicy. The berry is dry and dense, when ripe, it easily breaks off from the stalks, does not crumble at all into drupes. The taste is sweet and sour, with a high sugar content. Suitable for fresh consumption, baking, for various preparations and freezing.

How to choose a raspberry seedling
Due to its unpretentiousness, raspberries live in almost every garden plot. But in order to get tasty berries, you must first plant a healthy and strong seedling. In nurseries, shops and private sellers, you can find a huge assortment of seedlings, but how to determine their quality and be sure of the abundance of fruiting already upon purchase?

Growing features

It thrives best in temperate climates. Many farmers in the south of Russia and Ukraine note that he does not like excessive heat: in such conditions, the growth of replacement shoots slows down. In terms of agricultural technology, the variety is sensitive to feeding - nitrogen and mineral (phosphorus, potash) fertilizers should be applied regularly. Usually the bushes of this raspberry are medium-sized, 120-130 cm with erect strong branches, therefore they stand without support, but their height can reach 160-190 cm, then a garter to the trellises is needed.

The variety is distinguished by an underdeveloped root system, which must be protected by mulching and protected from both drying out and decay.

Site selection and soil preparation

Saplings are planted in March or October. For a plantation, it is recommended to choose a flat or with a slight slope, sunny, calm area. Radzieva loves light fertile soils: loam or sandy loam. With tape planting, the holes are made at a distance of 50-70 cm, with bush planting, they are kept about 1.3 m between plants and 2.5 m between rows. The soil under the seedlings must be loosened, fertilized with organic matter, ash, be sure to add mulch.

A plentiful and high-quality harvest in the future depends on the correct technology of planting a raspberry bush. It is necessary to choose the right planting material, determine the location and prepare the site.
Raspberry garter is a difficult and painstaking task. This requires time and imagination. But on the other hand, the benefits from this process are enormous. Thanks to the garter, the fruits ripen more intensively and regularly. Bushes are much less deformed, branches do not break off. After the garter, the berries are better preserved, and the greatest achievement at the same time is the convenience of harvesting.

Pruning

For stable fruiting and disease prevention, thinning and sanitary pruning is carried out regularly, in autumn and spring.

The raspberry pruning process is an essential and essential part of caring for your garden and the key to harvesting large, juicy berries. Without pruning, raspberry shoots lose their strength and cease to bear fruit. It is very easy to avoid thickening of the raspberry tree: you only need pruning - in the spring, summer and autumn months.
One of the conditions for proper care of raspberries is proper watering. The rules for watering raspberries are the same for all varieties and varieties of this garden plant. Moistening should be carried out if the soil has dried out by 5 cm or more.
One of the most important conditions for growing large and sweet raspberries is timely fertilization. For each stage of development of the raspberry bush, different feeding is required. Fertilizers that are used at the beginning of the growing season of the plant are not suitable during flowering and ripening of berries.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Moderate winter hardiness, according to tests, it is declared down to -35 ° C. To exclude freezing, it is necessary to prepare the plant for wintering by bending the shoots to the ground and covering it with agrotex.

Preparing raspberries for winter is another of the stages of berry care. If you start preparing raspberries for wintering in time, then next year you will get a rich harvest of delicious and sweet berries. Winter preparation activities include pruning, feeding, pest control, watering and shelter.

Diseases and pests

The variety perfectly resists the main viral and fungal diseases of fruit crops. Root decay is possible with excessive soil moisture. Breeders claim high resistance to pest infestation. But, according to reviews, this raspberry is often exposed to tick attacks.

Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.

Reproduction

The most affordable ways to reproduce Radziev are by dividing the parent bush and young shoots. In the spring, after carefully digging up and separating the growth with a lump of soil, it is planted in a place prepared in advance.

There are many ways to breed raspberries. Raspberries can be diluted with root cuttings, woody cuttings and root cuttings. Regardless of the method of berry propagation, a number of requirements must be observed to ensure the receipt of high-quality planting material.
