Raspberry is one of the horticultural crops that has been cultivated for a very long time. It is not only tasty, but also has a number of useful medicinal properties. Among the numerous varieties, the Krepysh raspberry stands out.

Breeding history

The Krepysh raspberry variety was bred in Russia in the late 90s of the twentieth century at the Institute of Horticulture VSTISP under the leadership of V. Kichina.

Description of the variety

Raspberry Krepysh is a shrub that is a member of the Rosaceae family. The variety is capable of forming a trunk, since short internodes are formed on the shoots, there are especially many of them in the upper part. Due to its appearance, the plant is called the raspberry tree. The bush is small, its straight stems grow upward and reach a height of 150 to 170 cm. There are practically no thorns on the stems. Shoots are thick, strong, resilient and erect. Rough leaves grow on the stems, which have a strongly corrugated leaf plate of a dark green color. Raspberries begin to bear fruit in the second year after planting. In the southern regions, fruiting begins in the first year due to the warm climate. It is used in food both fresh and canned.

Ripening terms

The fruiting period for raspberries begins in June and ends in August. In the middle lane, the berries begin to ripen in late June - early July.

Growing regions

Raspberries can be grown both in the southern and northern regions, since this variety has a high frost resistance.

Yield

The yield of the variety is high. With good agrotechnical care, gardeners collect up to 4 kg of berries from one bush, this figure is higher than that of other standard varieties.

Berries and their taste

Raspberries have large berries, their weight ranges from 7 to 12 grams. They are famous for their taste, sweet taste with a very pronounced pleasant aroma. The berries grow in the shape of a brush, but ripening is uneven. One brush contains 6 to 9 fruits. The berries are distinguished by a blunt-conical shape of a bright red color. The berry is juicy with dense pulp, which allows it to be stored for a long time and transported over long distances without losing its taste. During the harvest, the berries remain dry and well separated from the stalk. After ripening, the berries do not crumble and can hang on the bush for a long time.

How to choose a raspberry seedling
Due to its unpretentiousness, raspberries live in almost every garden plot. But in order to get tasty berries, you must first plant a healthy and strong seedling. In nurseries, shops and private sellers, you can find a huge assortment of seedlings, but how to determine their quality and be sure of the abundance of fruiting already upon purchase?

Growing features

It can be grown both by individual bushes and by the trellis method. A favorable time for planting is from mid-September to the beginning of frost, in the spring they begin to plant in mid-March and end at the end of April. When planting several bushes, it is necessary to maintain a distance of about 1 meter from each other. Before planting, the roots need to be held in the mullein solution for some time. The hole with the bush is not tamped, the earth is poured with a mound.

Site selection and soil preparation

For landing, you should choose a cozy place that is well protected from the wind.Drafts and strong winds adversely affect the yield of this variety. The ground should be flat and well lit by the sun. Excess moisture negatively affects the bushes, so the place should not be flooded with water. The soil for planting should be breathable and fertile, acidity - neutral. If the soil is not very fertile, then before planting it should be dug up and organic fertilizers applied (from 10 to 12 kg per 1 m2), potassium sulfate - 50 g, superphosphate - 100 g. legumes.

A plentiful and high-quality harvest in the future depends on the correct technology of planting a raspberry bush. It is necessary to choose the right planting material, determine the location and prepare the site.
Raspberry garter is a difficult and painstaking task. This requires time and imagination. But on the other hand, the benefits from this process are enormous. Thanks to the garter, the fruits ripen more intensively and regularly. Bushes are much less deformed, branches do not break off. After the garter, the berries are better preserved, and the greatest achievement at the same time is the convenience of harvesting.

Pruning

In the Krepysh variety at a height of 50 cm, in May-June, the tops of the shoots are pinched, this method allows the lateral shoots to actively germinate, the newly grown shoots are also pinched at the same height. This method is called "double cropping". If you do this, young shoots have time to get stronger by winter. There is another way of pruning: at a height of 1.3-1.5 m, annual shoots are cut off, those that bear fruit, weak and broken are removed, leaving 4 to 6 of the strongest shoots on the bush.

The raspberry pruning process is an essential and essential part of caring for your garden and the key to harvesting large, juicy berries. Without pruning, raspberry shoots lose their strength and cease to bear fruit. It is very easy to avoid thickening of the raspberry tree: you only need pruning - in the spring, summer and autumn months.

Watering and feeding

The variety is drought-resistant, does not like when moisture stagnates for a long time, so you should not water it during rains, otherwise the roots will start to rot. In dry weather, watered once a week.

Top dressing should be done in 3 stages. The first time in the spring, when the buds begin to bloom. For feeding, infusion of mullein, nitrogen fertilizers, urea are suitable. The second time is when bud formation begins. Fertilizers are used that contain nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. The third time is in the fall, when the growing season ends.

One of the conditions for proper care of raspberries is proper watering. The rules for watering raspberries are the same for all varieties and varieties of this garden plant. Moistening should be carried out if the soil has dried out by 5 cm or more.
One of the most important conditions for growing large and sweet raspberries is timely fertilization. For each stage of development of the raspberry bush, different feeding is required. Fertilizers that are used at the beginning of the growing season of the plant are not suitable during flowering and ripening of berries.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Since Krepysh is a winter-hardy variety and tolerates temperatures of -30 degrees very well, shelter for the winter is not required. Raspberry shoots bend to the ground, this will help to winter well in regions with strong winds.

Preparing raspberries for winter is another of the stages of berry care. If you start preparing raspberries for wintering in time, then next year you will get a rich harvest of delicious and sweet berries.Winter preparation activities include pruning, feeding, pest control, watering and shelter.

Diseases and pests

The variety is well resistant to pest attacks and diseases. For prophylaxis, the bush should be treated with "Kemifos", "Fufanon", and copper sulfate. If damaged shoots appear, they should be cut off. In order not to develop the larvae of beetles, the earth must be loosened.

Unfortunately, raspberries, like other plants, do not bypass various diseases and pests. Only armed with the knowledge and the necessary means for this, you can cope with such troubles. To help the plant, it is very important to be able to recognize the disease in time and begin timely treatment.

Reproduction

Raspberries are propagated by cuttings. The best time to harvest cuttings is from late May to early June. Reproduction takes place in several stages. To do this, choose a strong and healthy annual shoot, remove all leaves from it. Divide the branch into several parts, leaving 2-3 buds on each. Several cuts are made with a sharp knife on the bottom of each cutting, then immersed in Kornevin, another growth stimulator can be used. After that, the cuttings are planted in the ground at a quarter of the cutting length. It is important to remember that the soil must be moist, so it will be right to make a small greenhouse over the cuttings.

With good care, raspberries will delight you with delicious berries that can be eaten fresh, they are also suitable for canning.

There are many ways to breed raspberries. Raspberries can be diluted with root cuttings, woody cuttings and root cuttings. Regardless of the method of berry propagation, a number of requirements must be observed to ensure the receipt of high-quality planting material.
