Raspberry Heritage

The Heritage variety is considered one of the first to be bred for the purpose of obtaining a crop for sale. Its special properties determined its distribution in America and other countries. For a long time it was used as an exemplary result of breeding activities.

Successful breeding activities achieved results in 1969. The hybrid was obtained by crossing several popular varieties. Breeding work was carried out over a long period in various institutions. Further experiments were carried out on the basis of the Heritage variety, which made it possible to obtain raspberries with large berries.

Heritage is the result of American breeding. The variety is characterized by a late ripening period. Fruits appear on the shoots of the current and last year.

The often considered remontant variety is chosen for home cultivation, but is also suitable for industrial applications. This is due to several characteristics of the Heritage Raspberry.

• Possesses high self-pollination, therefore, there are no problems with growing in greenhouses.
• A hardened bush is not susceptible to environmental influences.
• It has an average growth rate.
• The resulting shoots are strong, erect, and have an average thickness.
• The thorns are small in size, of medium density, they are dark brown in color.
• In most cases, the height of the shoots is no more than 1.5 m.If you follow all the recommendations, the height reaches 2 m.With abundant watering, the width of the bush is no more than 1.2 m.

The first berries can be picked in June. Fruiting occurs before frost.

A feature of the Heritage raspberry can be called the fact that the berries can be on the branches for a long period. In high humidity, the fruit can be stored for up to 2 weeks.

With proper care, you can count on good yields. In most cases, up to 3 kg of berries can be obtained from one bush. If the bush grows in greenhouse conditions, taking into account all the care recommendations, the indicator is 5 kg.

The variety is characterized by high disease resistance. This is why it has gained popularity in industrial gardening.

The resulting berries are one-dimensional, have a rounded-conical shape, slightly pubescent. The seeds are small, rather uniform, interconnected. Small seeds have a weight of no more than 1.5 mg. After ripening, the fruits acquire a dark red color with a pronounced shine. Due to the elongated stalk, there are no problems with picking berries, they do not crumble.

The pulp is juicy, dense, and the cover is elastic. Despite the thin skin, the fruits are resistant to external mechanical damage. On a 5-point tasting scale, the taste of raspberries is estimated at 4.6 points. It is sweet and sour, the berries have an intense aroma.

Even after correct and timely planting, seedlings require appropriate care.Normal plant life is impossible without performing the following work:

• top dressing;
• pruning
• protection from diseases and harmful insects;
• watering;
• mulching.

Removal of excess growth is also periodically carried out. When you get rid of it, the plant becomes stronger and more powerful. Due to this, vital activity will be aimed at the formation of fruits.

Raspberries need to be constantly watered from spring until the berries ripen. If there is not enough moisture, the shoots will become thin, the leaves will be lethargic, and the fruits are very small. In dry weather, raspberries should be watered at least 2 times a week. That is why many gardeners are considering installing drip irrigation.

Garter is provided. There are 2 ways to do this:

• simple garter;
• fan garter.

When disembarking by the tape method, a garter on a trellis is provided.

It is recommended to plant in spring or autumn, the best time is September. Before the first frosts appear, the seedlings have time to take root, after which they develop successfully.

The most successful place for planting can be considered a sunny and not darkened area with loose soil. A special requirement is that the appearance of stagnant water should not be observed.

The preparatory stage provides for the introduction of humus into the ground: up to 12 kg per 1 m 2. To increase the likelihood of plant rooting, potassium sulfate and phosphorus fertilizer are additionally introduced. Recommendations for preparing the land:

• the minimum distance between bushes is 70 cm, between created rows - 1–2 m;
• it is recommended to plant no more than 2 bushes on 1 m 2 of land;
• the depth of the holes is 30 cm, the width is 40 cm;
• around the formed hole, the soil is compacted, a small side of the earth is made;
• at the time of planting, each plant must be watered with at least 30 liters of water;
• after completing the planting procedure, sprinkle the plant with dry sawdust or peat.

With the cultivation of remontant raspberries, as a rule, there are no big problems. There are several ways to choose from:

• reproduction by offspring;
• root cuttings;
• using green cuttings.

Cutting green cuttings is done in spring or autumn. The incision is made 3–5 cm below ground level.

Root shoots are dug up and planted in the fall. The main condition is that the aboveground part should be at least 5-10 cm.

Breeding using root cuttings should only be carried out after picking the berries. The process involves digging out the root of a healthy and developed bush, after which the shoots up to 15 cm long are cut.
