The boudoir style has been known since the beginning of the 17th century. Until that time, the boudoir was considered the female part of the house, intended for sleeping, changing clothes, and toilet. The new century made it possible to use the boudoir space in a different way - for receiving close friends, and then for business meetings. It was there that women hosted, showed each other their outfits, shared secrets, and sometimes, to be honest, accepted secret admirers.

Peculiarities

At the beginning of the 17th century, the magnificent baroque style gave way to rococo, with its airiness and even frivolity. History called this era the "Gallant Age", a time of free morals, relaxed behavior, when famous female names entered history and forever remained.

These were the names of the brilliant and educated favorites who became the trendsetters of the then fashion, whose opinion was listened to by the world and even men. Holding the secret reins of government in their hands, dictating style and fashion trends, they, of course, left their mark in interior design, even if it was called differently then.

Thanks to the great favorites, the custom of receiving guests in the boudoir came into fashion, gradually turning it into a women's office. Boudoir became not only a resting place, a zone where a woman could put herself in order, be alone with herself. The rooms became secret rooms, where decisions of state importance were sometimes made. It was there that the first fittings and demonstrations of fashionable outfits took place. We can say that these were the first fashion catwalks.

According to the architect Amalia Talfeld, a modern boudoir is a kind of mini-office, a multifunctional space dominated by a sensual palette, erotic shades of wine red, burgundy, luxurious and velvet black. Boudoir style is a sensual style in which great attention is paid to spiritual comfort, emotional coloring of the interior space.

A real boudoir should have several rooms, united by a common idea of "feminine space". These should be: a bedroom, a spacious dressing room, a bathroom, preferably with a separate bathroom, a dressing table and an area for comfortable conversation - a couple of armchairs and a coffee table.

  • An ideal option in which all these zones can only be accessed from the bedroom. Ideally, this is a personal space, inaccessible without the permission of the hostess for other family members.
  • A wardrobe is good lighting, a large wall mirror, a convenient storage system for clothes, shoes, bags and everything else that a woman cannot do without.
  • The highest level of comfort is a private balcony, access to the terrace, to the garden, to the pool.
  • A similar style should have smooth corners, soft furniture shapes.
  • Smooth lines of window decoration. Graceful draperies, noble textiles on the windows and canopy.
  • Multilevel lighting that makes it possible to create intimate cozy corners with muted twilight.
  • Lots of places to relax - poufs, couches, banquets, armchairs.
  • Personal decorative items: aroma lamps, candles, smoking sticks, figurines and much more, which depends on the female personality.
  • A masculine boudoir can also be. This is a workplace with a computer, office or desk.

Finishing

The ancestor of the boudoir style is Rococo in all its sophistication and aesthetics. The preferred decoration of the boudoir-style walls is unobtrusive wallpaper with a small print, noble silk-screen printing. The classic flooring is good quality parquet, laminate, soft and fluffy carpets, possibly hides.

The sophisticated direction prefers marshmallow shades: vanilla, blue, pink, cream, caramel, white. Luxurious textiles on the bed, canopy, curtains with numerous draperies and lambrequins. A small floral pattern on the upholstery of elegant furniture with curved legs, decorated with decorative overlay details.

Glamorous boudoir direction prefers muted shades of noble halftones - chocolate, coffee, cappuccino, champagne, silver and bronze. Sparkling iridescent fabrics, an abundance of gloss, mirror surfaces. Star glamor is harmoniously combined with elements of art deco, safari style.

Oriental tales, Arabic motifs are another offshoot of the boudoir style. Bright colors inherent in the East reign here, weightless translucent fabrics, Moroccan furniture and lamps, a large number of decorative pillows, couches, oriental ottomans.

A vibrant and provocative baroque vamp. The use of contrasting colors - carmine reds, blacks, blues and purples, a bit of a neutral palette. Sparkling furniture and decorative finishes in silver and gold tones. Silk wallpaper, silk-screen printing, monochromatic color scheme with golden hues, Venetian plaster are used on the walls.

The most popular today are the colors of oriental spices - saffron with red hues, Marsala, turning into a carmine palette.

How to choose furniture?

For a bedroom decorated in a boudoir style, furniture made of light wood species is surprisingly suitable - ash, birch, beech and others. In addition to a bed, preferably with a canopy, the presence of a dressing table with a beautifully decorated mirror, a coffee table, a couple of armchairs, ottomans, a couch is possible. All content should correspond to the direction in which the general interior background was conceived.

It is advisable to choose furniture for the room in soft, rounded shapes, with rounded edges, obtuse corners. For a more masculine living room, the sofa can be made with a carriage coupler with a color scheme in rich burgundy and black tones. A sophisticated direction is characterized by upholstered furniture, reminiscent of royal, with graceful contours, curved legs, carved decorative elements, upholstery with a floral print.

The modern boudoir style allows for new advances in the furniture industry. Nothing will prevent you from installing an armchair or sofa with a recliner system, a chaise longue in the living room. The main requirement is a combination of furnishings and a general concept.

Accessories and lighting

The modern boudoir style loves decorative accessories with metallic hues, gold and silver accents. The elements of the 20s and 30s of the XX century look good: an abundance of chrome surfaces and trim details, quilted textiles in black and white, a combination of crystal and lamps. Contrasts in the color palette of upholstery and individual items play a significant role. The screen, so beloved in the royal palaces of France, will become a bright accent.

Lamps are used in the form of floor lamps, wall sconces. If a boudoir style with notes of the Arabian night is chosen, then the lighting should be used in the same theme - oriental, aromatic lamps with inclusions of copper, bronze, brass. In any case, the light should be diffused, soft, muted tones.
