The Venetian style is able to transform the interior of an entire apartment or its individual rooms: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and other rooms. Romantic, elegant, luxurious, it is able to turn life into an eternal holiday, charges the city on the water with a special mood. In this case, chandeliers and wallpapers, paintings and mirrors, chairs and doors become part of the overall composition, so it is very important to strictly follow the rules for their arrangement in space.

Peculiarities

Venice is a city of romantics and lovers, forever immersed in the Renaissance. Their own style was formed here, if not in isolation from Italian, then in a clear distance from it. Venice has had a special architectural tradition since the 14th century. This city was already inhabited by artisans and creators who created unique works of art.

The Venetian style developed amid a mixture of colors and shapes, at the epicenter of the emergence of new traditions. Several characteristic details of this direction can be distinguished.

  • Defiant luxury. The furnishings here are always carefully selected, often of historical origin. Every detail is handcrafted. Even outside Italy, the use of authentic Venetian chandeliers and lamps, sculptures, paintings in rich frames is encouraged.
  • Naturalness and authenticity. It is impossible to reliably convey the spirit of Venice without the use of quality materials in the decoration. There is no place for imitation wood or cheap fabrics. All objects should “age” nobly, give the feeling of a house built for centuries.
  • Tiled flooring. Most often they use marble or its artificial counterparts, porcelain stoneware. In the conditions of the city, every now and then experiencing floods, the stone floor was considered the best solution. Today it is rather a tribute to tradition, another way to emphasize the luxury and uniqueness of style.
  • Vaulted ceilings. In general, architectural forms in the Venetian style are the fundamental element that determines its motives. The same techniques are used here as in the construction of the famous chapels. Domed ceilings or structures that give the impression of a stone vault are the best choices.
  • An abundance of mirrors. Set in massive natural wood frames, they create completely unique accents in the interior.
  • Exclusive decor elements. Gilding, hand-carved wood, patina, natural stone columns, rare and luxurious carpets. The Venetian style lives on in the spirit of a trading city, where the best sellers of rarities once flocked to boast of their wares.
  • Harmony. Despite all its pretentiousness, this style in the interior cannot be called too carnival or artificial. Venetian traditions make it possible, even among monumental luxury, to create a comfortable space for living.

All these details were formed under the influence of centuries-old traditions. Country houses on the seaside, apartments in historic buildings with high ceilings are ideal for using the Venetian style in the interior.

Furniture selection

Venetian-style furniture is always massive, solid, but with a fair amount of pretentiousness. This makes it akin to Victorian furnishings. The use of natural hardwoods decorated with carvings or patina is encouraged here. Another distinctive detail is the presence of soft upholstery made of velvet, silk, tapestry. In the decoration of furnishings, inlay with mother-of-pearl or thin plates of natural stone, Murano glass inserts are widely used. An obligatory element of the interior of the living room, library, office are bookcases - high, from floor to ceiling, with glazing and decorative painting, stained-glass windows.

The collection of rare editions in luxurious bindings will be a good addition to them. Venetian-style tables are divided into dining, boudoir and cabinet tables. The first of them have round or oval shapes, 1, 2 or 4 legs, reminiscent of a lion's paws. Boudoir furniture is represented by make-up tables with internal drawers and shelves, often with a mirror. Cabinet models are always massive, solid, made of fine wood, with stands for writing instruments.

Finishes and colors

The colors, traditional for the Venetian style, are bright, juicy, saturated with light and depth. All shades of purple, emerald, sapphire tones are quite appropriate here. The background is often beige or ivory. In addition, Venice is the city of the Doges, it is characterized by all the regal shades. The interior must have a golden, silver shine, luxurious stucco molding, marble, travertine are welcome. Basic colors are also considered to be pastel shades of pink, milky or pale blue. They are diluted with brighter tones, overflows and transitions of shades are used.

The Venetian style is spatial, convex, tactile. Interior items have expressive forms, and details of decoration make you want to touch them. Textured materials, volumetric, textured decor are welcome here. Great attention is paid to the decoration of the walls. Most often, decorative Venetian plaster is used here.

In the bedroom, you can place wallpaper with silk-screen printing, upholstery walls with satin or paint them with frescoes on plaster.

Decorative items and lighting

Among the interior details in the Venetian style, there are quite a few elements of antique art. In the decoration of the premises, sculptures in the Roman and Greek spirit can be used, located in special niches. When designing a house, architects try to arrange them so that the sun's rays fall on the objects of art for the longest period. And also repeating elements will be appropriate here: in the ornaments of the walls or in the form of colonnades, enfilades.

The decor is also widely used:

  • ornate masks on the walls;
  • carnival paraphernalia;
  • stained glass details;
  • painting objects;
  • fans;
  • musical instruments;
  • floor vases;
  • candelabra with candles.

Lighting fixtures in the Venetian style are most often presented in several options. The central part is occupied by ceiling chandeliers made of Murano glass or crystal, with rich pendants, candelabra, and other decorative elements. Local lighting is represented by lamps on stands and sconces with caps, colored glass screens.

In recreation areas, floor lamps on high gilded legs with lampshades made of expensive brocade will be appropriate.

Interior design of different rooms

Choosing a Venetian style for renovation in an apartment or house, it is important to understand that such a ceremonial, pompous setting will not suit all interiors. If the living space is small, it is better to give preference to lighter and more modern design solutions.

In the Venetian tradition, a modern studio with sea or water views can be finished. Here, a massive chandelier, textile wallpaper, paintings and mirrors on the walls, luxurious furniture (bed, chairs, dressers, tables), carved or stained-glass swing doors will look quite appropriate.

Kitchens

Luxury and functionality - this is the motto that the architects from Venice are guided by when creating their interiors. There is often a combination of zones - a kitchen and a dining room, but the space does not create a feeling of being cramped. The luxury is manifested in details such as:

  • solid wood for the manufacture of cabinets;
  • natural marble for countertops and flooring;
  • lighting;
  • abundance of natural light from large windows;
  • open shelves with ceramic plates;
  • vases with fresh flowers in antique style.

Headsets often have rounded elements, patinated or gilded finishes, and can be decorated with carvings or rich inlays. Their arrangement is most often linear, angular and U-shaped variants are rather rare than a rule. The island, which also serves as a zoning element, will also be appropriate. The hood is installed with a copper hood, a large oven, a gas stove are required - Italians pay special attention to cooking.

The dining area is separated by a podium or a soft sofa, chairs with high backs.

Bathroom

Bathroom design in Venetian style has a lot to do with the culture of northern Italy in general. This room should be spacious, with an obligatory window - a source of natural light, it is often made stained glass, without the use of curtains, vaulted or arched. The decoration uses frescoes, columns. The bathtub is most often oval, located in the center of the room or along the wall, the "egg" shape is popular.

The interior often includes a large armchair or sofa with an obligatory footrest, a dressing table or a large mirror. Here, the division into "wet" and "dry" zones is not so pronounced, but usually there is a glazed shower stall located in a niche. Lighting is traditionally represented by a large chandelier in the center of the ceiling. Finishing should be expensive, luxurious - marble or travertine, gold-colored metal parts are welcome, even plumbing, most often copper or brass, shining.

Bedrooms

The luxurious and sophisticated interior of the bedroom is shaped with a minimum of detail. Architectural elements such as rounded corners, niches and alcoves will be appropriate here. A massive bed made of natural wood of noble species, high arched windows with heavy curtains, elegantly draped and carefully laid, a fireplace with live fire. This will be enough to create the desired surroundings. All that remains is to add candelabra lamps, bright pillows, a couple of massive armchairs, an expensive carpet on the stone floor and silk upholstery on the walls.

Living room

This room is a matter of special pride for the owners. The ceremonial interior is decorated with frescoes or painting on plaster, complemented by columns, massive furniture, tapestries and art objects. It is not customary to save on the decor of the living room - only the best should be here: furniture and tapestries made by hand, a chandelier by all means made by masters from Venice.
