Country style comes from America, it reflects the rough, measured life of a rural ranch. Europeans appreciated the simple, comfortable rustic design and began to introduce it into their interiors. Now, under the general name "country" one can find Russian, German, Scandinavian, Italian (Tuscan) and many other versions reflecting folk life.

Style features

In the intense bustle of modern life, you want simplicity and peace. A country-style kitchen meets these requirements. It is easy to create it in a country house, but if you try, you can equip city apartments with a country life.

Country direction is difficult to confuse with other interiors, it has its own characteristics.

  • Country-style furnishings are made from natural materials only.
  • The appearance of the kitchen should be rude and simple, but at the same time comfortable and functional.
  • The interior contains a lot of wood of different shades, it is used not only to create furniture, it is involved in the decoration of walls, floors, ceilings.
  • Stone and clay are also used in the decoration.
  • Handicraft is encouraged in everything - from towels, dishes and to furniture. In our time, imitation is suitable: rough aged furniture, earthenware.
  • Interior colors are calm, natural shades, without flashy accents.
  • The décor contains a lot of wicker, ceramic, clay objects, rough textiles with a simple pattern of cages, peas, or with folk ornaments.

Let's figure out what is contraindicated in country style.

A country interior should not look tense and pedantic, when every detail is thought out, and all items are installed strictly in their place. There may be a slight negligence in it (not to be confused with disorder), as if the whole situation was formed gradually, as needed, and over time acquired a finished look.

In the rural direction, you should avoid bad imitation, emphasized sham furnishings. Unnatural, deliberate "simplicity" is not characteristic of folk styles. For example, paper wallpaper with a painted brick will look tasteless. It is better not to be lazy and remove the plaster, exposing the real masonry. In a panel house, you can use facing bricks or stone tiles.

Artificial plants look bad in the interior, instead of them, you can use dried flowers.

Country style categorically does not accept:

  • stretch ceiling;
  • plastic, glossy surfaces;
  • chrome-plated parts (it is better to use retro plumbing patinated to look like copper or bronze);
  • modern decor;
  • modern technology;
  • artificial fabric as part of curtains, tablecloths, pillows, napkins.

As already noted, the country direction represents the rural life of different peoples, and it is quite allowed to mix versions, choose from each one that you like, create your own, unique, country music close to the heart.

Let's try to figure out how to combine the modern kitchen of the XXI century, oversaturated with technology, with the measured village life of the past.

Color spectrum

In the interior, no more than three primary colors should be used, everything else is diluted with their inherent shades.

All shades of brown are characteristic of the country-style ranch: from the color of dark chocolate to cappuccino with milk, the tones are energetic and rich.

French Provence is distinguished by pastel shades, worn furniture facades, whitewashed walls and faded textiles. English and Tuscan country style brings expressive, dense colors to the setting.

For the walls, a neutral color is chosen, two tones higher than the furniture, to emphasize the rough, but warm and expressive nature of the solid wood.

Absolutely light colors perfectly harmonize with the wood texture - all shades of white, excluding cold ones with snowy blue. In country, only cozy tones are used: milk, cream, vanilla, with beige notes. Sometimes the rustic style allows furniture of a light palette, but it should be simple, without catchy decorations on the facade. An exception is the decoupage technique on the doors of Provence style headsets.

To bring energy to the monochrome interior, soft, restrained accents are used in the decor. A rich palette: gray, blue, olive, terracotta, burgundy - may well dilute the design of a rustic setting. Floral prints and folk ornaments are added to it.

Finishing

Not so long ago, only natural materials were present in the decoration of apartments, since there were no others. Modern technologies have perfected building products made of polymer and plastic, and now it will take much more money to create a simple rustic interior than an ultra-modern decor. But do not be upset, it is quite possible to equip the kitchen with a hint of country, using laminate, MDF and chipboard imitating wood, as well as artificial stone.

Walls

In the country kitchen, special attention is paid to furniture, so the walls are made of an even monotonous shade to emphasize the furnishings from solid wood. Walls free of furniture are often finished with wood, brick or stone, and they acquire the same aesthetic value as the rest of the furnishings.

Various materials are used for wall decoration.

  • Painting. For the kitchen, you should choose a moisture-resistant paint with an even matte texture. Colors can be cream, sand, pistachio, gray, milky white.
  • Wallpaper. Country music does not tolerate synthetic materials, so you should not use washable wallpaper. It is better to put tiles or paint in the working area, and leave the wallpaper for the dining area. They should be of a calm natural color with floral motifs, checkered, striped or ornamented.
  • Decorative plaster. Special mixtures are produced, with the help of which semi-antique plaster is obtained, with cute irregularities, corrugation, scuffs, different color tones, as if the wall has burnt out from time to time.
  • Tile. It is the best material for the work area: moisture resistant, durable, easy to clean. Patchwork tiles, reminiscent of a colorful patchwork quilt, are ideal for country style; they can only lay out an apron or walls and floor near the work area. For country, metlakh, ceramic and clinker tiles are suitable, the main thing is that the surfaces are matte, in a muted tone.
  • Wall panels made of wood. They are often sheathed over the entire wall that is free of furniture. It is not necessary to choose the color of chocolate, light types of wood look good. These panels can be painted in light pastel colors.
  • Stone and brick. Both are perfect for a rustic style. To reduce the cost of the project, you can use stone tiles or facing material that imitates "torn" brick. They decorate the walls, floor, work apron, veneer the fireplace.

These materials are ideally combined with wood, which is the basis of the rural style.

Ceiling

The upper part of the kitchen should be given special attention, if the walls serve as a background for furniture, then the ceiling is always in sight.In country style, its main decoration is wooden beams. This is a rather heavy material that is difficult to fix to the ceiling. Therefore, hollow false beams are often used for decoration, inside which electrical wires are hidden. Beautiful, impressive finishes, but only suitable for kitchens with high ceilings.

In small rooms, it is better to use whitewash or milky paint.

In a rustic style, wooden lining of light shades also looks good.

Floor

In the past centuries, farmers were able to cover the floor with wood or stone. Some have used ceramic tiles to cover the kitchen. Nowadays, only tiles are available to everyone, other materials are very expensive. But they can be replaced with a parquet board, a laminate that imitates rough wood. And the stone base will completely replace porcelain stoneware. The color of the tiles should be discreet, and the wood-like material should be chosen with a brutal pattern depicting raw cuts of branches and cracks.

In the kitchen, it is better to use a combined type of floor, lay tiles near the working area, and warm wood or materials imitating it on the dining area. Sometimes a mat and a self-woven rug with large hand-woven weaving is laid on the floor.

Furniture selection

Country-style furniture is not limited to the offerings of the standard collections of the furniture industry. If the budget allows, it can be ordered individually by the master cabinetmaker. People with a limited budget have the opportunity to rewrite old kitchen items with their own hands. Summer cottages, attics and garages can contain old-fashioned sideboards and cupboards. Using special techniques, they are restored, covered with a coating that imitates ancient decay.

Country-style furniture is rough, solid, durable and reliable. Natural solid wood is used to create the headsets. In budget kitchens, MDF plates are used. In rare cases, in country houses, working furniture is built of bricks, decorating the facades with wooden doors. The dining group is made of oak, pine, cherry, cedar and other valuable wood species. Often, benches or poorly hewn stools are introduced into country interiors. To create comfort and coziness, pillows in cotton pillowcases are laid out on them.

There are factory collections. You can pick up wonderful ready-made kitchen furniture models. The Penza company "BTS mebel" produces high-quality and inexpensive country-style headsets. An innovative approach to design is noted in the modular country kitchens "Sonoma H Green" or "Sonoma H Light", respectively, with green and light facade finishes. Headsets are produced for different tastes, with gratings, slats, glass inserts, balustrades, pilasters, decorative cornices.

Decor

Decor is an important element of any style, it is he who finally forms the direction of the interior. In a rustic kitchen, textiles and cute little things create a real atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

Textile

It's hard to imagine a rural kitchen with empty plastic windows. If it is not possible to decorate the window with wooden frames, at least the appearance of the product for wood should be observed. Curtains, curtains are an obligatory attribute of a rural kitchen, they create an atmosphere of comfort and protection from prying eyes of the outside world.

Country-style materials are chosen natural: chintz, linen, cotton, with an uncomplicated floral pattern. An elegant cage, cheerful polka dots or a folk ornament will do.

For small kitchens, it is better to choose short curtains, and for large rooms, floor-length curtains.

You can use bamboo, Roman, roller blinds. Models should be selected carefully, without obvious signs of modernity.

In addition to the window, textiles in the country kitchen are present in pillows on stools and benches, tablecloths and napkins with lace, ruffles, embroidery, or, on the contrary, in the form of rough canvas fabrics.

A modern giant refrigerator can be hidden behind a cute rustic curtain.

Accessories

There is never too much country decor. Everything that is old from family history, great-grandmother's chests, can finally be pulled out, shaken off the dust and put on the shelves.

Long-forgotten unfashionable dishes will find a second life. Decorative plates are hung on the walls. Earthenware, ceramic dishes with folk patterns are placed on exhibition shelves. The main place is occupied by a samovar polished to shine. Kitchen utensils are hung on the rails with the same copper sheen. Glass jars and ceramic barrels with cereals are placed on the shelves.

A kerosene lamp, ancient stove tiles, porcelain figurines, fresh flowers on the windowsill, bunches of dried medicinal herbs suspended from beams are traditionally used as decor.

Wicker baskets, wooden barrels, forged fireplace sets are used beautifully and functionally.

Beautiful examples

As already noted, the country direction is a mixture of rural styles of different peoples, each of which brings its own unique flavor to the cozy interior of city apartments or country houses.

Russian country

This style is not suitable for everyone, since it includes a Russian stove in its interior. Of course, you can use a simplified version, do with embroidered tablecloths, towels, pillows with lace pillowcases, a samovar, pottery, onion braids, wildflowers in vases.

The decor should have a lot of open shelves, rough wood on the floor or walls, white, red, yellow shades in the interior.

Tuscan style

Tuscany is a land with vineyards and olive orchards, hot sun and warm sea, all this has been incorporated into a comfortable rustic interior. The surrounding nature prompted Italian cuisine to use natural warm shades: chocolate, muted orange, terracotta, cream. The design features faded walls, wooden ceilings, stone and solid wood floors, and rustic decor.

German country

German practicality, laconicism and pedantry are felt in the style. The decor is no-frills, each piece neatly takes its place. Used extremely simple wooden furniture, not complicated by the decor. White starched chair covers give an idea of simple, unpretentious textiles.

French provence

Delicate romantic Provence is significantly different from the setting of an American ranch. It features warm pastel colors, faded cozy textiles, whitewashed furniture and many lovely knick-knacks.

Country is an amazing style, with its simplicity and practicality it is close to many housewives, and thanks to its cozy rustic notes it allows you to rest and relax after a hard day at work.
