Growing regions

The variety is well adapted for planting in the northern regions of Russia. It is successfully cultivated in the Moscow, Vladimir and other regions of the Central Federal District, northwest.

Landing

Gooseberries of this variety can be planted with cuttings or parts of an adult bush, but most summer residents acquire ready-made material with a closed or open root system in nurseries. Young seedlings are selected, giving preference to well-developed, disease-free options. Plants are transferred to the ground in early spring or autumn, from the 2nd decade of October. This will allow him to acclimatize well, ensure the successful development of the root system.

When choosing a site for landing, you should give preference to well-lit places. The soil is suitable fertile, well aerated, not waterlogged. Gooseberries of this variety grow well on loam, sandy loam, black soil. It will be useful to fertilize poor soils with a large amount of organic matter. The bushes themselves with an open root system are recommended to be soaked in a growth stimulator before planting in order to accelerate their adaptation in a new place.

Gooseberry pits are prepared with a depth and diameter of 0.5 m.At least 1 m is left between adjacent bushes, rows are separated by 2-3 m of area. A mixture of fertile soil, mineral and organic components is laid in each of the prepared holes. A seedling is placed on top of this substrate, deepening its root collar by 50-70 mm. To the edges, the hole is filled gradually, compacting each layer of soil.

At the end of the procedure, the seedling is watered with 1 bucket of water. Then, the branches are pruned, keeping a short part of 5-7 cm at the base. At least 5 buds should remain on it.

Planting shrubs in different seasons has its own pros and cons. In order for a gooseberry to start, you need to know some aspects of planting it. First of all, you need to choose the right planting material, then decide on the landing site and competently prepare the planting pit.

Growing and care

Bushes require uniform watering, taking into account the natural precipitation. Top dressing is necessary, especially in early spring, before flowering. You can use special complexes or organic matter, wood ash, mulch the root area with peat and humus. It is important to regularly loosen the soil around young plants. Adult plants require periodic sanitary and rejuvenating pruning to remove sprouted shoots.

In order to rejuvenate the gooseberry bush, give it a neat look, optimize yield and protect it from pests, it must be periodically pruned. There are several types of pruning: anti-aging, sanitary and shaping. Each of them differs in seasonality and frequency.
For feeding gooseberries, both mineral and complex mixtures are well suited. Pure organic, including homemade, can also be recommended.
Although gooseberries are considered to be an unpretentious crop, they also require regular maintenance. Compliance with agrotechnical practices in the autumn-winter period guarantees the duration of fruiting and high yields for the next year, therefore, preparing the gooseberry for winter is an important event.

Disease and pest resistance

This gooseberry variety is highly resistant to anthracnose, American powdery mildew.

In order for the gooseberry to produce a good harvest, it is necessary to devote time to disease prevention.

Resistance to adverse climatic conditions

The variety is winter-hardy. Withstands a drop in winter temperatures down to -35 degrees. In spring, it does not shed flowers even during the period of return frosts. In dry periods, it retains high fertility rates, and can withstand long pauses between waterings.

One of the positive qualities of a gooseberry is its ease of reproduction. There are a number of methods for creating new bushes from old ones. Planting material is obtained by cuttings, layering and dividing the bush.

Review overview

According to summer residents, the Altai numbered gooseberry variety deserves special attention. It is praised for its stable yield starting from 2 years of cultivation, excellent taste and long-term storage of fruits. Amateur gardeners without experience easily master his agricultural technology due to the general unpretentiousness of the plants. Bushes do not grow in width, almost do not need pruning, grow well even on poor soils. Good presentation makes the berries of this variety promising for growing for sale.

Summer residents find relatively few disadvantages. There are references to the fact that the fruits are crumbled from the branches. The skin is very dense, suitable for "royal" jam, but fresh can spoil the impression of the berries somewhat. Difficulties arise in determining their ripeness. Even fully ripe berries do not become soft, retain their elasticity.
