Almost every person who was engaged in painting work thought about purchasing an airbrush (paint sprayer). With the manual method of painting, the productivity and quality of the result will be much lower than when using a special device.

Description

An electric spray gun for all types of paint is a special device with which you can paint any surfaces at the proper level: vertical and horizontal. The process is faster, and the coloring composition is applied more evenly than with manual work. The electric gun is powered by a pump built into it. Thanks to the incoming air, the coloring composition is broken into large droplets and distributed throughout the object.

The main advantages of the tool are the absence of paint fog, it has a small size, easy maintenance and a low price. Therefore, an electric paint sprayer is usually used for household work.

Species overview

As mentioned above, an electric gun is a household appliance, while professionals most often work with a pneumatic tool. But even among the assortment of electric ones, you can find semi-professional models, it all depends on their power and the permissible paint density.

Air models

The paint reservoir can be top, bottom or with a special pump. How the coloring composition will be distributed over the surface depends on the design features of the model. An instrument with a built-in pump is powered by forced air; an instrument with a reservoir is powered by discharged air. The paint is supplied to the spray gun by gravity, and sprayed using pressure (about 8 atmospheres).

The biggest advantage of the air gun is the perfect application, the coating is applied in an even and thin layer. That is why it is usually used for finishing and finishing work. Not without its drawbacks - due to low pressure, the transfer coefficient of the dye composition also remains low. When spraying, the smallest particles of matter are formed, which cannot overcome the air environment, because of this, a small paint cloud is formed - a colorful fog. Because of it, the accuracy of the application is reduced.

Airless models

Spraying occurs due to high pressure (from 500 atmospheres). The design of the tool has a small-section paint supply nozzle and a high-pressure hose. It is these spray guns that can be used for materials with high viscosity. The supplied paint at the exit is in the shape of a torch with a clear outline. The paint lays down on the surface without the formation of a coloring cloud. It is used in large industries for large volumes of work or for applying any protective substances.

The main disadvantage of the pistol is that the result is of poor quality. If the nozzle is not suitable or the pressure is too high, the paint will not lay flat.

The quality of the painting also depends on the shape of the object to be painted - due to convex details, sags or smudges can form.

Hand pistols

These are versatile designs suitable for any job. Models consist of several elements:

  • pistol grip with nozzle;
  • container for the coloring composition;
  • pump;
  • block with engine.

On some spray guns, the pump and the gun are located at a distance and are connected using a special hose through which air passes.It is due to this structure of the device that noises and vibrations are generated during operation.

Painting stations

These tools are professional grade. They have an increased transfer of substance to the treated surface and productivity. The design is a powerful pump and motor, closed with a special casing. The station is heavy, so it is equipped with small wheels for movement. Powered by a gun connected to a high pressure hose. Such spray guns have an increased set of working options.

Popular models rating

Poor quality tools can affect not only the painting process, but also the surface to be processed. Based on user reviews, a rating of the most popular models was compiled.

"Caliber EKRP-600 / 0.8"

An electric paint sprayer with a low cost, designed to work with compositions whose density does not exceed 30 DIN. "Caliber EKRP-600 / 0.8" is a compact tool where the engine and the reservoir are located separately. The paint tank is made of plastic, its capacity is 0.8 liters. The location of the container is lower. The reservoir is connected to the compressor by a flexible "corrugation", the length of which is 2 meters.

The spray gun has three operating modes, thanks to which you can adjust the density of the fluid supply. The set includes a special funnel for filling the container, and you can also use it to determine the density of the paint. The nozzle diameter is 0.8 mm.

With the help of a shoulder strap, the gun can be moved during operation.

Bort BFP-400

The second most popular electric spray gun. It works with compounds not denser than 35 DIN, as in the previous model, the viscosity of the liquid is checked using a special funnel in the kit. In this device, the structure is a gun, pump and compressor connected together. The volume of the paint reservoir is 0.8 liters. The weight of the pistol is only 1.13 kilograms.

The handle is made of the correct and comfortable shape; there is additional rubberization for a secure hold. You can adjust the force with which the substance will be supplied to the surface; for this there is a special regulator on the sprayer.

Elitech KE 400P

A Russian-made pistol, in which the motor and the pistol are connected. The handle has rubber inserts for better grip. The container for the colorants is at the bottom, made of transparent plastic, its volume is 0.8 liters. The feeding power can be adjusted, for this there is a special wheel. The size and shape of the jet can also be changed. The weight of the model is 1.53 kilograms.

"Bison KPI-500"

Spray gun with built-in motor, suitable for all types of paint formulations. The permissible viscosity is 100 DIN, with this indicator the device can work even with putties and varnishes. The spray nozzle has a size of 2.6 mm. Lower reservoir. The force of application and the shape of the spray are changed by a special regulator. The density of the substance can be determined using the glass included in the kit.

Patriot SG 550

American manufacturer. Here the gun and the motor are located separately, the paint container is lower. The engine itself can be on the floor during operation or with a shoulder strap directly on the painter's shoulder. The corrugation connecting the gun to the compressor is 2 meters long... The admissible viscosity of the liquid is 50 DIN, for determining the density, like in previous models, there is a special glass in the kit.

Nuances of choice

Technical indicators that will help you choose the right electric spray gun include several points.

  • Performance - this parameter indicates how fast the surface can be painted, as well as the efficiency of paint distribution. Household models are less powerful - up to 0.5 l / min, painting stations have a capacity of more than 2 l / min.
  • Tank volume - the operating time until the next refueling depends on the size of the tank.
  • Spray nozzle diameter - the indicator depends on the substance used. An incorrectly selected size can damage the gun and spoil the result: 0.5-1.3 millimeters - for base paints, up to 1.6 mm - varnishes and acrylic compounds, up to 2.8 mm - putties and varnishes.
  • Manufacturing material - you need to pay attention to what the main elements are made of. The parts must have the correct shape and fit perfectly to each other in order to exclude possible leaks.
  • Vibration - the ergonomics of the device allows to partially suppress vibration, for this the pistol handles are partially or completely rubberized.

You can check and compare this characteristic at purchase by turning on spray guns with separate and combined compressor and gun.

How to use it correctly?

General instructions that will help a novice master learn how to work with a spray gun.

  • The quality of painting directly depends on the prepared surface. It must be cleaned, degreased and dried well.
  • The next stage is the preparation of the coloring composition. The mixture is brought to the desired consistency according to the instructions.
  • Adjustment of the pressure and size of the jet. Here you need to test on paper - until the layer becomes even.
  • The painter must wear personal protective equipment - a respirator and goggles.
  • The staining itself is the distance from the device to the surface from 15 to 25 centimeters. The angle at which you need to hold the spray gun is 90 degrees. The coloring composition is applied with an overlap.
  • There must be good air circulation in the room.
  • After use, the device must be cleaned and washed immediately.
