Sliding compartment doors have a number of advantages. But the differences in design make it impossible to use the same handles as on simple doors. It is very important to understand all the intricacies in advance, even before installing the door.

Main varieties

Sliding door handles are made mortise and rather resemble recesses. You can take such a part with your fingers to close or open the passage. There are 3 main options for these pens:

  • independent (for interior doors);

  • independent (for entering a house or apartment);

  • mortise structures, complemented by a latch.

In the first case, a lock or a latch is not provided. To prevent spontaneous opening or closing of the door, magnets are usually used. But in some designs they are not used. The advantage of using an independent handle of this type for compartment doors is the simplicity of the device. The lack of mechanisms makes it possible to provide:

  • reliability;

  • ease of installation;

  • affordability.

Full-fledged independent handles are mounted inside the door leaf and do not go beyond its contour. This makes it possible to guarantee the opening of the flaps even in a small area. But this solution does not allow full use of the cassette sliding door. Her canvas goes 100% into a pencil case located inside the wall. The passage can only be opened by using an additional handle.

A flush handle with a latch is used on double-leaf sliding doors. Such a device already implies the use of mechanisms that allow you to open the opening if the need arises. Latch handles are not suitable for swing doors. Most often, to get the latch out of the strike plate, you need to turn the round button. But in some modifications it is replaced by a movable slider.

Whatever control element the developers choose, it must be placed in the deep part of the handle. This allows you to use the door without any problems, even where there is little space. Another option is a sliding door handle, which always has a keyhole opening. Some versions even build in something like a cylinder.

Basically, these types of fittings are used on sliding double doors.

Types for certain types of doors

The variety of designs and operating principles of the handles is largely due to the difference between door models. Most of the modifications are made for glass doors. Many of them are equipped with a removable larva. To install such a part, you need to drill through the glass. The handle itself is attached to the hole using a nut-fitting, and to lock it, you need to rotate the key.

Mortise door handles for interior doors are a push version that looks like a lever. By moving the lever, the latch can be opened or locked. The doors are sometimes opened by simply pressing the handle. When installing the product, use an overhead strip or socket. But the rotary handle can be used both by itself and from the inside (when outside there is a push handle).

The rotating piece can look like a sphere or a cone. The opening is made with a slight twist - hence the name. But there are also more secure types of devices, in fact, representing a kind of lock. Such pens have received the common name "knob".Geometrically, they are close to rotary structures, but are equipped with a latch that blocks the lock. As a rule, mortise knobs are used to close the door from the inside. Therefore, they can be seen in the bathrooms. To control the lock (and release it if necessary) the following can be used:

  • button;

  • larva;

  • additional turning device.

Materials (edit)

In the manufacture of handles for sliding interior doors, the following can be used:

  • ferrous and non-ferrous metals;

  • wood;

  • glass;

  • plastic.

The most popular are still metal structures. This is due to their strength and reliability. Mechanisms made of stainless and galvanized steel, bronze and silumin are mainly used. It is not recommended to use the latter option, because the attractive appearance will not last very long. In addition, silumin handles are easily destroyed - so the savings in purchasing them are illusory.

All experts recognize stainless steel as the best option. As for the color of the coating, everything is simple - it is selected to match the canvas itself. Brass is widely used for sliding structures.

This alloy helps to achieve a very pleasant appearance. It is also comfortable to touch.

If the room is decorated in the spirit of high-tech, anodized aluminum handles for compartment doors will be most appropriate in it. At the same time, in rooms of other styles, you need to be more careful when using them. Plastic products go well with PVC cloth. Glass and wood structures are used to a limited extent due to their low practical characteristics. They are needed mainly where a non-standard door is placed and therefore an original approach to decor is required.

Product design and their features

Handles with a latch (or, as the professionals say, with a latching tongue), contain such details:

  • handle;

  • the basic element is a rosette or decorative strip;

  • square pin (profile);

  • screws for connections.

The end version of the handle is used in cases where the usual version with a latch will not work. It is needed if the sliding door is completely immersed in the wall. In the assortment of outlets and in technical descriptions, such an item may be called differently - an end grip or a finger pen. In all three cases, we are talking about one product. If you want to choose a handle for sliding doors with a locking mechanism, you must first determine the principle of operation.

Mechanical systems work precisely because of the latch. A special key must be used to close the door. The advantage of such a product is its high wear resistance and the possibility of long-term operation. The simplest magnetic locks can also be installed in interior doors. Inside there are powerful permanent magnets, opposite to which there is a steel plate or a magnet with the opposite sign.

But electromagnetic constipation does not justify itself. It is expensive and is used primarily in office and administrative buildings. If the electric current is cut off, the system will not work. By the way, only mortise handles can be used on sliding doors.

Any other type of construction will not allow the sash to go all the way into the pencil case, so the opening will be partially occupied.

Additional recommendations

If you want to create the most luxurious interior, you can use the handles painted in platinum. Sometimes they are decorated with rhinestones. But it is important to understand that such decorations are acceptable only in a classic interior. A sliding door of a wardrobe compartment, like an interior door, can be equipped with a profile handle (it has neither a lock nor a catch). However, the profile element for the cabinet is made open, and only handles with a closed design are placed on the interior door.

Most often, profile handles are placed on both vertical ends of the door. The number of constipations is determined in accordance with the number of valves and their movement patterns. There is no point in putting these details where no one will see them. When it comes to choosing really attractive and ideal-looking designs, you should give preference to the collections of the leading Italian companies. Well-known Russian and Chinese suppliers, however, have fine-tuned the production of equally solid products, although they often look simpler.
