Glass door handles are an essential element of door hardware and come in a wide variety of shapes and designs. Products are of a narrow specialization and, as a rule, cannot be installed on other types of doors.

Peculiarities

The use of glass doors has been practiced for quite some time. All-glass models visually expand the space, do not clutter up the room, providing ample opportunities for the implementation of design ideas. Glass doors fit perfectly into all modern styles, harmoniously combined with furniture and other interior elements.

Door handles are the final and main touch in the design of transparent leaves., they give glass doors a complete look and stylish appearance.

Door handles for glass doors are structurally different from traditional models and are equipped with special fasteners that are unable to harm the glass sheet.

The scope of the pens is quite extensive. Products can be installed both on interior doors and on the entrance groups of public institutions, offices, shopping centers, living spaces, swimming pools, showers, sports complexes and baths. The choice of the right model depends on the size and weight of the door leaf, the intensity of traffic and the frequency of opening and closing, as well as on external temperature conditions and humidity.

For example, a metal handle for interior doors is not suitable for installation in a bath.where, due to the likelihood of strong heating, the use of a wooden model is required. Particular attention should be paid to the shape of the product.

So, for a massive door through which a huge number of people pass, the installation of a knob (rounded handle) will be inappropriate. Conversely, on a home interior door, a massive handle will visually make the canvas heavier and look like something foreign.

Variety of materials and shapes

Glass door handles are available in different materials. In addition to steel, copper and plastic, wood, aluminum, bronze and all kinds of metal alloys are often used.

  • Wooden handles look very stylish and natural on a glass door. Most often, these models are installed in rooms with high temperature conditions, such as saunas and kitchens. In addition, matte wooden handles will look good in eco-style country houses and cottages, and lacquered models are quite suitable for installation in public spaces. Despite the fact that wooden blanks are pre-treated with special compounds that increase the resistance of wood to high humidity, it is not recommended to use them in Russian baths and bathrooms.
  • Aluminum models are intended for installation on swing and sliding systems, they can be installed on glass sheets of any thickness. The material has good anti-corrosion properties and high resistance to extreme temperatures. In addition, aluminum handles are distinguished by a long service life, low cost and good wear resistance, which allows them to be installed in public places with an average traffic intensity.
  • Steel handles they are often equipped with a push mechanism and are intended for rooms with high traffic. The models can be installed on both swing and sliding structures, they are distinguished by a beautiful, often chrome-plated, surface, resistance to rust and a stylish appearance. Stainless steel handles withstand strong mechanical loads and are combined with any type of glass doors, the thickness of the leaf of which is 8 mm or more. The only drawback of such products is their rather heavy weight and high cost.
  • Bronze models They are distinguished by their expensive and noble appearance, but over time they are prone to abrasion of the decorative layer and a complete loss of the original shine.

The shapes and functionality of the handles are also varied. Models can have round, square and classic shapes, as well as sophisticated individual designs. The most convenient option are products combined with a locking device, the most common of which are a magnet and a latch.

Such products are most in demand for installation on interior doors. - where the arrangement of the canvas with a locking device with a key is not required. With the help of a latch and a magnet, the door leaf is securely fixed to its box or the second part, the likelihood of spontaneous opening of the door from drafts is prevented. The second type of handles-locks is represented by models capable of locking the door with a key.

This type is often used on sliding doors and is very easy to use.

Varieties

An equally important criterion by which handles for glass canvases are classified is the way they are attached. On this basis, five types of construction are distinguished.

Overhead models

The convenience of using such products is that there is no need to drill holes in the glass sheet. The handles are small in size, usually have a metal design and are fastened to the door by tightening using a special fastening mechanism. The advantage of overhead copies is the possibility of self-installation, which can be carried out without the use of special tools and the presence of the necessary skills, as well as equipping some models with a magnet that allows the door to be tightly fixed in the closed position.

In addition, the products are available in a wide range with a wide variety of shapes, colors and designs. This greatly facilitates the selection of the desired model, allowing you to purchase a handle for any interior.

The disadvantages include the risk of cracking when the fasteners are very tightly tightened and the inability to use on too thin glass sheets.

Staple handles

Pull handles are widely used on pendulum and swing systems, they are characterized by the absence of a locking device and a wide variety of shapes. This type is the most inexpensive and widespread, it is often used for installation in various public spaces.

The design of the models allows you to use several materials for their manufacture at once, a successful combination of which will allow you to choose a model for any type of door. Brackets can be used on entrance and interior systems, they are characterized by low cost, wide color gamut, ease of installation and long service life.

The disadvantages include a rustic look and the need to drill holes for their installation.

Push Models

Push-on models require the formation of a through hole for their installation, corresponding to the dimensions of the locking mechanism. The handles allow you to reliably fix the door leaf in the closed position, they are distinguished by a high-strength mechanism and a large assortment.

The disadvantages of pressure products include the need for professional installation. This requirement is due to the fact that if the device is inserted incorrectly, the glass sheet may be damaged, and the flag of the locking device will not close completely.

Knob pens

Knob handles are widely used when installing doors in apartments and private houses. The knob is made in the form of a swivel mechanism equipped with a locking tongue and a rounded double-sided handle. The models are available in a wide range and are presented in wooden, metal and plastic types of handles.

In addition, the handles are characterized by a convenient form for use and ensure a snug fit of the door leaf to the frame.

The disadvantages of knobs include complex installation and the inability to install on large and heavy door leaves.

Sliding door models

Sliding doors require the installation of special handles adapted to move the canvas to the side and freely enter the niche. Coupé handles have a flattened shape and are installed on the canvas by gluing. The advantages of such products include a wide range and the ability to easily control the sliding door.

The disadvantages are the insufficient reliability of fixing the self-adhesive tape and the need for careful selection of the height of the product. Otherwise, the door will not be able to enter the niche, and you will have to buy a new handle.

Installation tips

The door handle installation technology depends entirely on the type of product design. So, when installing overhead models, the main thing is to choose the optimal squeezing force of the glass. If the "golden mean" cannot be found, then there is a possibility that the handle will move during use, or, conversely, glass cracking from too much twisting.

Installation of models requiring drilling of mounting holes should be done by a professional. However, if this is not possible, then you can make the holes yourself. Handle installation work must be done before hinging the door. For work, you should use a diamond drill or an engraving machine with a diamond round bur.

Drilling should be done with personal precautions, breathing and eye protection from glass dust.

Drilling holes should be carried out strictly perpendicular to the surface of the glass and performed by pinpointing the tool to the glass. Despite the fact that durable tempered glass is used for the manufacture of doors, it is better to place the canvas on a rubber mat or thick blanket. Such a backing will dampen vibration and prevent the glass from breaking. After the holes are formed, you can strictly follow the instructions to begin installing the handle.

Glass door handles can transform even the simplest canvas and often play the role of a link between different style solutions, bringing harmony and style to the room.
