Screw-in or screw-in hinges for doors have several differences from other types of hinges: ease of installation, low price, durability. But it is the quick and easy installation of the hinges that makes them more and more popular. Installation does not require precise marking, centering the holes for self-tapping screws or cutting out the grooves of the landing, so even a non-professional can handle the installation.

Where use

Screw hinges are also called pin hinges, they are installed on doors with a false part (with a quarter). Instead of the usual slats, they have small rods that screw into the block and the canvas.

The dimensions and weight of the door determine the choice of the model of the screw hinge. For lightweight folding leaves and swing doors, you need to choose awnings with 2-3 rods. For large and heavy doors, hinges with four bars are used - these models are made of special steel and are capable of withstanding heavy loads.

The advantage of such fittings is easy adjustment using a hexagon. It can be adjusted in height or horizontally, as well as in the pressure area.

Positive traits:

  • different colors;
  • complete set with decorative caps;
  • made of non-ferrous metal, mainly aluminum (plastic pin hinges are used for light doors or windows);
  • high wear resistance;
  • beautiful appearance and compactness.

Among the shortcomings, the appearance of noise during operation is distinguished, but models with a special plastic insert can solve this problem.

The screw mechanisms are versatile - no need to choose for the left or right side. The canvas on such hinges cannot be removed, which can be attributed to both disadvantages and advantages.

The caps cover the rods and act as a decorative element. They are available in a variety of colors and can be matched to any interior.

Device

Screw hinges have several elements:

  • connecting pin;
  • frame part for fixing in the opening;
  • leaf part for fastening to doors.

The commercially available screw-in mechanisms with nylon insert or ball, which ensure quiet opening and closing, as well as reduce friction and help to extend the life of the hardware.

Views

Pin hinges vary in size: small hinges are used for installing windows, and large ones for doors.

Door mechanisms can have multiple pin rods. For windows and plastic doors, they choose with two rods, for light wooden doors - with three, for massive and heavy canvases - with four.

Screw mechanisms can be:

  • adjustable;
  • unregulated.

They differ in that doors with adjustable hinges, after installation, can be aligned vertically, horizontally, and also set the required gap between the leaves and the door block. As a result of the adjustments, it is possible to achieve the easiest and quietest movement of the doors during operation.

The set may include caps or overlays. The caps allow not only to hide the hinges, but also to give the doors a beautiful look that harmoniously fits into the overall design of the room. Overlays are used to add elegance to the entire structure. Decorative elements also serve the purpose of increasing the service life of the hinges, protecting them from possible mechanical damage and the adverse effects of dust, moisture and other factors.

Where to install

Pin hinges are suitable for all types of wooden doors and windows with a false quarter. Such fittings can be installed on glass doors of steam rooms and office premises. Fixation to the glass is carried out using clamping loops or fasteners in the glass hole.

Glass door hinges differ from conventional hinges in two welded screws and a piece for fastening to glass. There can be from two to four pivoting elements, depending on the massiveness of the doors.

Installation

The following tools and accessories may be required for installation:

  • limit ring;
  • fixation stands;
  • a template for inserting loops;
  • hex bit;
  • drill;
  • drill;
  • crank;
  • clamps;
  • holder.

Experts recommend sticking to the following technology.

  • Fix the door to the floor in order to position the hinges as correctly as possible. Furniture stores have special racks for fixing, but you can do them yourself.
  • Mark the canvas and the block (the places where the hinges will be mounted).
  • Using a clamp, fix the template to the canvas (it makes the work easier). The template is often included in the package, if it is not in the set, you can purchase it separately or draw it yourself.
  • Drill holes with a drill of the required diameter and insert the rods. The depth should be equal to the length of the parts, and the number should correspond to the number of rods.

Preparing the door:

  • fix the parts in the marked places with screws;
  • install the sash part of the hinge on the frame;
  • fix decorative elements.

When installing two hinges, the distance from the top and bottom should be 15 to 20 cm. If more is required, the distance from the top and bottom can be reduced to 8-12 cm.

Adjustment

After installation, adjustments must be made. It can be in three directions. If you tighten or loosen the special adjusting screws inside the parts, then the doors are aligned as accurately as possible and do not emit sounds when opening and closing. You can adjust it with a screwdriver or a key that is included in the kit, it all depends on the type of pin loop.

Adjustment technology:

  • top screw for horizontal alignment;
  • the bottom screw adjusts the clamp and sets the exact gap between the doors and the door block;
  • vertically, the doors are adjusted with a middle screw (the exact position is achieved by rotating in different directions).

It is worth noting that, following the recommendations, you can independently install screw hinges, but, as in any other business, experience and special knowledge may be required. It is important to choose the right hinges and carefully read the instructions before starting work.
