Geopolymer concrete

Geopolymer concrete is one of the new environmentally friendly materials. Almost all the substances that make up it are of natural origin.

The production technology can be called innovative without a twinge of conscience. And although this material was first used in Ancient Egypt during the construction of the pyramids, it has now been possible to restore and improve the production technology.

Components and their properties, advantages

By buying it instead of regular concrete, you can save money. The low cost is due to the peculiarities of production technologies. To make the right mixture, you need to be very careful in your choice of ingredients.

A special component is fly ash. Ash itself has high physical and technological properties. Its use allows in the end to obtain such a material that is not only not inferior to Portland cement, but in some respects surpasses it. So, geopolymer concrete is distinguished by its strength, which can be compared with granite. It is resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, low permeability and less shrinkage.

Advantages

  • Gains maximum strength quickly. Temporary indicators significantly exceed those of traditional concrete. Already on the second day, it reaches sufficient strength. To gain maximum strength, he needs only a week, and not a month, as usual.
  • It mainly includes waste from economic activities, which previously were practically not processed or used. That is, there is already a decent raw material base for production.
  • During manufacturing, you can get rid of waste that is harmful to the environment.
  • Simple production technology.
  • Continuous improvement of the composition in order to improve performance. At the same time, for the most part, experiments are being carried out with the ratio of the components, and the original composition practically does not change.

disadvantages

  • Despite all the positive aspects of geopolymer concrete, it still has disadvantages. 10% of the components are of unnatural origin (potassium hydroxide, water glass). Therefore, it still cannot be called 100% natural.
  • The lack of a specific GOST for preparation, so when buying it is difficult to be confident in its quality.
