Laundry baskets are needed in order to put those dirty things in a certain place, which do not have to be washed immediately after changing them. Nowadays, designers can offer housewives to use baskets for dirty linen, which are successfully hidden inside cabinet furniture. Thanks to this, you can significantly free up the space of the bathroom, as well as remove this piece of furniture from the visible space.

Peculiarities

The practicality of built-in laundry baskets can be fully appreciated by the owners of those bathrooms that have a good ventilation system, since it prevents excess moisture from filling the air in the room. Due to excess moisture, dirty items collected in a basket, closed in a cabinet or in a closet, can be a source of an unpleasant odor, which will be difficult to get rid of later.

Built-in laundry baskets have the following advantages:

  • you can clearly see what is stored in the basket, and, if necessary, take out a specific item of clothing for washing;
  • air access to stored things, which will stop the formation of an unpleasant musty smell;
  • low weight of the basket;
  • lightening the weight of the cabinet itself, if you choose exactly metal laundry baskets;
  • cabinets made of natural wood with built-in metal lattice baskets are much cheaper than those options in which all parts are made of wood, moreover, such baskets do not deform due to moisture.

But the embedded design also has its drawbacks:

  • breakage of the guide part can make the comfort of placing the linen minimal, and its repair can be quite expensive;
  • it is better not to store the basket for collecting linen in the same closet with clean linen, so that already washed things do not lose their fresh smell;
  • small items can fall out through large cells, which may not be a very pleasant surprise;
  • baskets with a cloth bag for dirty linen easily absorb unpleasant odors, for this reason they will also need to be washed often, which can quickly become unusable.

It is up to consumers to decide whether to buy built-in laundry baskets or not, the main thing is not to forget to familiarize yourself with all the design features and installation subtleties.

In doing so, it is best to decide in advance what type of basket you need.

Views

Built-in laundry baskets are divided into different types.

By type of fastening

By the type of fastening of the basket there are:

  • built-in (the threshold for pulling the basket out of the cabinet indicates the size of the guides with or without a closer);
  • independent (the structure can be taken out of the cabinet and used as an ordinary basket without handles, the advantage is that it can be installed in other compartments of the cabinet);
  • doors mounted on the wall from the inside (most often such baskets are installed in pencil cases or bathroom cabinets);
  • removable on the frame (most often it is a bag made of fabric in an open state, where opening in a constant mode is guaranteed by a special frame that is inserted into the grooves of the guides fixed on the wall of the cabinet or cabinet).

By type of material

By the type of material from which they are released, laundry baskets are divided into:

  • metal with lattice,
  • plastic,
  • plastic lattice,
  • fabric with a metal frame.

By size

Built-in laundry baskets vary in size and can be:

  • deep and spacious enough (most often they are used to collect dirty laundry, but many equip pencil cases in the kitchen with these products and even store vegetables there);
  • wide, but small (they are used to equip compartments for storing linen, clothes, towels, bedding sets).

In addition, quite often linen baskets are not built into a narrow pencil case or semi-tall cabinet, but into a whole section of a wardrobe or occupies a part of a linen chest of drawers.

The most popular are floor models. Most often they are called columns, since, due to their significant height, they are actually very similar to architectural structures. However, the column in this case is an ordinary single-section pencil case. Boxes for storing linen are pull-out or folding. This kind of pencil case can be easily moved from place to place if necessary and place the laundry basket where you like best.

Console or suspended (suspended) models are mounted on the walls. In this case, the height can vary quite widely. The advantage of this option is that it does not take up extra space and can be located anywhere in the bathroom, even above the washing machine.

The safest way out, both from the aesthetic and practical sides, is considered to be mesh laundry baskets for dirty linen, built into existing bathroom furniture. Mesh products can be in a small cabinet (like a semi-tall cabinet), in a vertical pencil case, or a cabinet with a sink.

The most recent option is most often seen, as a vanity unit with a built-in sink can be called an almost indispensable element in any modern bathroom.

Shapes and sizes

If we talk about the shapes of built-in baskets, then there are no boundaries for imagination. On sale you can find rectangular, square and round models. The latter are not very easy to use and therefore are less common.

According to the installation method, there are two types of built-in products:

  • wall-mounted (this kind of pencil case with a basket for the bathroom will have a flat back wall, it is with this that it adjoins the wall and can be placed anywhere);
  • corner (pencil cases with a basket with a cross-section in the form of a triangle or a trapezoid, the structure of which includes a right angle, most often these are floor products, in terms of their capacity they are not inferior to other options, but they occupy those areas in the bathroom that are usually not used) ...

Built-in baskets have different sizes.

Most often it is 30x40x25 cm or 30x50x25 cm plus or minus 2-3 cm in either direction, where 30 cm is the width of the basket, 40 and 50 cm is the height, and 25 cm is the length.

Tips & Tricks

Any wardrobe, cabinet, chest of drawers, pencil case can be equipped with a built-in removable product for collecting stale linen. The best way to do this is by purchasing plastic boxes without a lid or spacious boxes. At the same time, you need to remember the parameters of the niche for which the cart is being purchased. The basket should be 2 cm smaller than the shelf in which you want to build the product.

When choosing a metal laundry basket for installation using guides, you need to know:

  • the rods of the product are made of good material and will not wrinkle and stain clothes;
  • the basket will sit quietly in the niche chosen for it (the dimensions of the product should be slightly smaller than the size of the shelf);
  • rails of the required size are commercially available.

To equip a pencil case or cabinet, it is better to choose a laundry basket with plastic or metal grates. This will help to reduce the rate at which a musty odor appears among the collected dirty items (this is necessary if the items are washed once a week or even less often).

By the way, it is much easier to care for a plastic product, but a metal one will serve you much longer.

Beautiful examples in the interior

The use of a basket in the bathroom limits the ways of decorating it, since not all of them can be applied to decorate pencil cases, but still there are a number of interesting ideas here.

  • The mirror insert in the dirty linen storage box is a classic solution. But if in a wall cabinet of the required dimensions it plays the role of a mirror surface, then here it is only a reflective surface.
  • Fans of traditional design should pay attention to the retractable bathroom cabinet with frosted glass.
  • Corner cases, which usually take up little space, but are large enough for storing linen, look very advantageous in the overall design of the bathroom.
  • A cabinet with a faience sink and a laundry basket can have two compartments: an accessory for linen and shelves for various cosmetics and hygiene items.
