A laundry basket is essential in every home. She keeps things prepared for washing, brings a particle of comfort into the room. Several decades ago, special knowledge and skills were required to make such an accessory (not everyone can handle the weaving vine). Now weaving from newspaper tubes is available to everyone. Use the step-by-step advice of the master class and create an exclusive item with your own hands.

Making tubes

Making newspaper tubes is easy enough. To do this, cut the material into strips, the width of which is 10 cm. Take a thin knitting needle (knitting is suitable) and apply it to the edge of the strip at an angle of 45 degrees. They begin to twist the tube tightly. It is important that one end is slightly widened. So it will be convenient to insert one tube into another when building up such a newspaper "vine". In order for the finished product to be durable, the tube must be glued in several places.

Bottom

The bottom of the basket can be of different shapes: round, rectangular, oval. If you make it triangular, you get a corner model, ideal for a small bathroom. Consider several options for making the bottom.

Made of cardboard

This is the easiest way. To do this, cut out two cardboard blanks of the desired shape. To give the product an aesthetic look, it is necessary to paste over them with wallpaper, finishing paper, self-adhesive film. The tubes are placed around the perimeter of one of the blanks. The distance between them is 2 cm. PVA glue is used for gluing. After all the tubes have taken their places, they are covered on top with a second sheet of cardboard, pressed tightly and the load is placed on top. For greater efficiency, clothespins are additionally used.

Weaving

The second option for making the bottom is weaving.

You will need to create two types of weaving material:

  • several canvases made of four newspaper tubes glued together;
  • strips of glued two tubes.

The number of blanks depends on the size of the bottom. Lay them out in accordance with the photo.

The workpieces are connected with a single tube. She should braid paired stripes.

In this way, you will create a dense bottom for the future basket. If at the same time you use two contrasting colors of the tubes, the canvas will look especially impressive. To give the rectangle the correct shape, the protruding edges of the pipes connected together in 4 must be trimmed. Double straws should be used to create the sides of the basket.

Walls

There are many ways to weave beautiful walls. Initially, the tubes protruding from the bottom are bent so that they are at an angle of 90 degrees with respect to the base. The easiest way is to use double tubes. They are staggered.

Single weave can be used. It will look pretty if you use 2 contrasting colors. Then there will be interesting horizontal stripes on the walls of the basket. For maximum comfort, use a rotating surface. Stability will be given by the load placed inside the future basket.

Horizontal and vertical markings in the form of lines drawn on the posts will help to make the weaving evenly. It is best to stick to the same length of paper racks when building them up. It's more convenient to work this way. The joints are fastened with glue and try to place them on the inside of the box.

At the same time, the tubes are cut at an angle. This makes it easier to insert one into the other. If you are weaving a corner basket, regular newspaper tubes will not work as racks. Use printer paper. It will help maintain the shape of the product.

Edge decoration

One way to frame the edge is by using uprights. Each previous stand is wound from the inside for the next one, bending around it. As a result, all vertical posts will be sticking out horizontally. In the second step, each rack is trimmed. Its end is tucked from the outside into the hole from which the third post comes out. For convenience, it can be slightly widened with scissors.

If the "rope" method is used to weave a basket, then you can perform a simple and beautiful way to decorate the edge using only racks. The vertical working tube is led out. Then it is laid along the pattern and inserted into the hole located between the second and third posts in relation to the working one. The hole is expanded with an awl if necessary.

To decorate the edge of the box, the "volumetric fold" technique is suitable. It looks like a wide and showy braid. The "Isis" fold will also be a good frame for the laundry box. It is not difficult to perform. If the racks are stiff and not flexible enough, they are moistened. This eliminates the appearance of ugly creases.

Pens

The easiest way is to use two newspaper tubes. They are threaded into the sidewall and twisted together. Two such elements are obtained on each side. They are connected with glue to form a handle. Clothespins are used for fastening. After the handle is dry, you will need to mask the joint and give it an aesthetic look. Take a straw and wrap around the handle.

Lid

Laundry basket with a lid will perfectly fit into the interior of the bathroom. Use thick cardboard for the lid. After cutting out the desired shape from it, make small holes in the side of the sheet. Newspaper tubes are inserted into them around the perimeter and fixed with glue. After drying, they begin the weaving process. The cardboard is placed on the box and the sides of the lid are gradually formed.

Box decor

The basket can be woven from dyed newspaper tubes or dyed on an already finished product. It is best to use acrylic varnish as a dye. Its main advantages are fast drying and the absence of an unpleasant odor. After processing with such a composition, the newspaper becomes especially durable and moisture resistant. If you opted for spray paints, then the basket must be primed before use. The paint is applied in 1-2 layers.

Stain stains the newspaper in different colors. Easier to color before braiding. To do this, each tube is immersed in the solution for 3-5 seconds. Lay them out on a sheet so that they do not touch. The second layer is laid with a woodpile. It will take about 12 hours to dry completely. In this case, it is necessary to isolate the tubes from the additional heat source. Due to high temperatures, the tubules can deform, dry out, and lose plasticity. It will be difficult to work with them.

The lid of the box can be decorated with decoupage napkins. The dried drawing is varnished. If the main color of the basket is white, floral motifs will also look good on the walls of the basket. The ribbon is also used to decorate the basket. To do this, during weaving, a small gap is left in the walls, equal to the width of the satin ribbon.

When threading a fabric strip into it, keep in mind that it should support the general principle of weaving. You can put a textile bag inside. For a rectangular basket, the pattern consists of 5 rectangles. Sewing the sides, they get a kind of bag.

The textile part is placed inside the box. Its edges are brought out and glued. A wide lace strip is used as decoration. The textile ribbon will add a touch of tenderness to the basket. The insert in the walls of the box and the framing of the edge of the product look harmonious.

The main advantage of a handmade basket is its uniqueness. By carefully following the instructions, you will create a model unlike anything and decorate it as you wish. Models are variable, you can make a basket of different sizes and shapes. This will allow you to best fit it into the bathroom interior.
