The most popular interior layout in the kitchen is the L-shaped arrangement of furniture. It can be used for rooms of all sizes and shapes. It is spacious, allows you to arrange all household appliances, to lay out kitchen items, but at the same time does not overload the space, as is the case with two-line headsets or U-shaped layouts.

Advantages and disadvantages

You can find many arguments in favor of an L-shaped kitchen, although there are disadvantages, but they are insignificant and arise only under certain conditions. Let's consider the pros first.

  • The corner layout is quite compact, at the same time it makes it possible to place a large number of things and equipment. At the same time, the central part of the kitchen remains free.
  • It is in the angular arrangement of furniture that the famous working triangle is obtained, when the refrigerator, sink and stove are at an equal distance from each other, which facilitates the process of using household appliances.
  • With this layout, there is room for the dining area.
  • There is a large selection of headsets on the furniture market, they can be purchased in sections and increase furniture rows to the desired size. This means you don't have to overpay when making a bespoke kitchen.

This is not to say that the L-shaped kitchen has disadvantages. It just suits some rooms more, and some less.

  • The most difficult thing is to fit an L-shaped kitchen into a room with complex geometry, which has protrusions, niches, that is, walls with broken lines. Such a room for any headset will become a problem, which means that the minus is more likely in it.
  • There are some difficulties with installing an L-shaped kitchen in rooms that are too elongated with a window at the end. Furniture will have to be ordered in order to include the window in part of the headset.
  • There is an opinion that it will be difficult for the hostess to move in too large rooms, using a long row of furniture. But this is not so, everything important can be concentrated in the triangle, and things that are rarely used can be placed in remote sections of the headset. To prevent a large kitchen from looking too empty, it can be supplemented with a dining area, bar counter, island or peninsular element.

Layout options

The compactness of the L-shaped kitchen and the content of the corner increase the interior possibilities of the furniture. Special attention is paid to the corner, it can contain a sink, a stove or just a cabinet. The ergonomics of the curved furniture range allows you to have hygienic, cooking zones, convenient storage spaces and spacious worktops close at hand.

The only thing that can complicate the life of the hostess in this kitchen is an ill-conceived door opening system, since they can intersect with each other. To prevent this from happening, the project of the built-in L-shaped kitchen is being developed at the stage of repair. An accurate drawing of the room will allow you to correctly plan both furniture lines and the angle. And then you should think about what equipment and things will fill the future furniture, what storage sections will be needed for them.

The next step is to correctly distribute the functional areas. As a result, when it is known what and where it will be, a diversified system of door opening is thought over: somewhere it opens, somewhere it moves, and somewhere it drives off to the side.With the right layout, even all open doors should not interfere with each other.

An L-shaped kitchen, especially in large rooms, can be complemented by a coffee or dining table, an island, roof rails, and a bar counter. All this abundance diversifies the layout of the kitchen.

Arrangement along walls without windows

The traditional arrangement of furniture along two perpendicular walls, not complicated by door and window openings, makes it possible to correctly build a working triangle. The distance between the three main functional areas should be approximately equal. Important work areas include:

  • a place for storing food (cabinet or refrigerator);
  • place for processing products (sink, countertop):
  • a place for cooking (oven and oven).

All of the above should be arranged in a triangle pattern at approximately equal distance from each other. Even if the kitchen is large, the working triangle should not exceed a distance of two and a half meters. In an L-shaped headset, it is usually not difficult to display furniture and appliances in this way. Only the refrigerator can fail, because of the large volumes it is necessary to look for a less noticeable place for it, so as not to spoil the aesthetics of the interior. Sometimes the refrigerator is disguised in the color of the headset.

If one person lives in the apartment, perhaps small-sized equipment, which is hidden in the lower tier of the furniture row, will be enough for him.

How to use a wall with a window?

In some cases, one line of the headset passes against a solid wall, and for the second, there is free space only near the wall with a window. Do not be afraid of this, this layout has its advantages:

  • no matter what work we do at the window, it is always pleasant to look into it;
  • the lighting by the window is better than anywhere else in the kitchen;
  • a window sill is practically used (connected to a common tabletop);
  • beautifully and functionally the window "overgrows" with pencil cases, shelves, drawers from all sides.

The only thing that can create a problem is the radiator. Sometimes they move it to a more convenient place, or arrange furniture so that warm air can easily enter the room. You should not install a closed cabinet under the windowsill, the tabletop can be used as a dining table, and after eating, hide stools under it. A gap should be left in the work surface for the free passage of warm air.

It is not recommended to mount the hob by the window; during cooking, the glass will sweat and become covered with grease.

How to fill the corner?

The L-shaped kitchen contains an angle of 90 degrees, if you install a trapezoidal cabinet, the angle will be beveled. The first option is suitable for small rooms, the second for large ones.

In the corner of the headset, a sink or hob is often installed. A fume hood is placed above the stove, and a dish dryer with a rising front is placed above the sink. If the surface of the cabinet is free, it is occupied with household appliances (coffee machine, toaster) or decorative items.

In the cabinet itself there is a "magic corner" system with a swivel device, which makes it easy to access any stored item.

Kitchen furniture design

The kitchen set sets the style for the entire room. Therefore, even at the stage of repair, you need to have an idea of the future furniture. If it is planned in laconic clear forms, it means that the direction of minimalism is assumed. This furniture needs solid walls, not a floral print.

You can stylize the kitchen in any direction, it all depends on the taste and some possibilities of the room.for example, baroque style will not work in a small kitchen. Gothic, loft, classicism also love large spaces, but they can participate in the interiors of small kitchens with mixed styles.

The headset, located with the letter "G", can occupy the left or right wall of the room, its rotary part depends on it. The very shape of the arrangement does not affect the styling, only the appearance of the furniture is important.

Classicism

This style, as already noted, is suitable for more spacious rooms, as it involves large, presentable furniture. A classic kitchen should look simple and rich at the same time. At its best, the furniture is made of natural wood and looks massive. But in modern kitchens, they successfully replace wood with the usual MDF and chipboard, the main thing is that the imitation is reliable. An L-shaped kitchen in a classic style should have straight proportional lines, if possible, the modules are arranged symmetrically.

Modernism

Kitchens are distinguished by bright glossy facades, smooth shapes, and methods of unusual asymmetric curves are often used.

The effective shine of the gloss expands the space, which is not bad for small to medium sized kitchens.

High tech

An abundance of metal and glass may be present in a kitchen set of this style. Unlike many trends that disguise and hide household appliances behind facades, in techno style they are paraded, the larger and more modern, the better. There are always a lot of lamps that provide an intense play of shadows and light.

Provence and country

Provence and country styles belong to the village direction, they are considered similar, but in fact they differ significantly from each other. Both styles use natural materials to create the decor, but the country furniture is rough, solid, simple, and the Provence kitchens are imbued with a more sophisticated atmosphere of the French province, with aged facades in pastel colors.

Successful examples

Designers have developed many beautiful corner kitchen designs. Let's take a look at some of them.

  • The Art Nouveau kitchen features glossy facades and flowing lines.
  • Classic style of furniture. A wall with a window is functionally used.
  • Decoupage technique is often used in the decor of Provence furniture.
  • Rough rustic country furniture is good in its own way.
  • A typical high-tech kitchen: a lot of technology, metal and straight fronts with no frills.

L-shaped kitchens are compact and spacious, they suit many interiors, and a large selection on the furniture market will satisfy every taste.
