The corner kitchen is a very popular solution in modern design. This layout is distinguished by excellent functionality and practicality. The obvious advantage of corner structures is the ability to use both spacious and extremely small rooms.

Peculiarities

Corner kitchen furniture has a number of advantages and very few disadvantages. The first and most obvious plus is compactness, space saving with such a layout is obvious. The corner can be fully used as storage, sink or dining area.

Since the fittings are quite diverse, you can design the corner in such a way that there will be no problems in pulling out, opening and storing in this area. Corner cabinets are very spacious, and drawers make it possible to save space.

Another plus is the ergonomic properties of the corner kitchen. Thanks to the full use of all the possibilities of the angle, a very comfortable angle is formed for working. Everything is in an accessible place, close at hand. The third advantage is the ability to separate the working and dining areas.

If the space allows, in the center of the kitchen you can equip another working "island" or divide the room with a bar counter.

It is worth choosing the corner option, since it has the following advantages:

  • the ability to apply a variety of furniture configurations;
  • a large selection of sizes - you can choose an option for any room;
  • the broadest design possibilities.

As for the cons, there are not very many of them and they are insignificant, namely:

  • discomfort at the beginning of using corner cabinets and cabinets that are connected at right angles;
  • the need to take into account the curvature, protrusions in the walls at the design stage.

Views

If earlier corner-type furniture consisted of only three main types: upper and lower cabinets and a dining sofa, today as standard, we can see the following items:

  • hinged cabinets for storage and drying;
  • hinged shelves;
  • pedestal tables with drawers;
  • sink cabinet;
  • cabinet with a niche for a microwave oven;
  • showcase for dishes;
  • whatnot, sideboard, shelving;
  • corner chest of drawers;
  • armchairs, chairs, benches;
  • pencil cases;
  • modules of floor type.

The upper modules are placed on the walls. They are extremely convenient to organize drying, storage of dishes and utensils. Such cabinets can be open or closed, as well as combined.

The main nuance that must be taken into account when designing hinged modules is their height and distance from the curbstone. The most comfortable distance ranges from 50 to 100 cm.

Base cabinets and cabinets are the basis of the entire headset. They must form a single whole, otherwise the work surface will not be formed. Their functionality is somewhat wider: storage of food and dishes, drying, base for a work surface, a place for embedding equipment. They can be both universal and focused on performing one function.

Corner cabinets for the kitchen are narrow tall solid cabinets that do not take up much space, are functional, and look original.

The kitchen, designed according to the corner type, is perfectly complemented by additional items: open shelves, sideboards, chests of drawers, tables.

Forms

By the type of location, corner kitchens are divided into several types.

  • L-shaped. This design is very common, practical and can be very effective.It is great for small rooms, it allows you to correctly distribute all the space. If your kitchen does not have a large area, this is certainly an adequate option, but the L-type can just as well be designed for a huge room. The peculiarity of the form lies in the perpendicular arrangement of the cabinets to each other. The design takes up little space, is compact, and at the same time is very functional. The only drawback is the limited options and access to the modules in the corner.
  • U-shaped shape. This is a very convenient and effective type of layout, but you must immediately make a reservation that it is not suitable for rooms of modest size. In order to place such a headset, you will have to use three walls. It turns out that if the standard kitchen in the "Khrushchev" is 6 squares, it is simply impossible to arrange furniture with the letter P. The main advantage of this design is a large work area, which allows you to comfortably use the entire space, build in a lot of kitchen gadgets and technical devices.

In order for such an arrangement to be really convenient and harmonious, it is necessary to first calculate whether the headset will be at least 2 meters between opposite objects. If not, it is better to refuse such a layout, it will be too cramped and uncomfortable.

  • Circular shape. This design option should only be considered if the size and shape of the kitchen allows such placement. It can be considered optimal for kitchens from 12 square meters. The headset is placed in the same way as a straight line, but in an arc. The advantage of this layout is its unusual, unconventional and very large working space. The doors of such headsets can be concave or, conversely, convex. A circular kitchen is a very cozy, attractive and functional option.

Regardless of the type of location chosen, it is important to make all measurements accurately and to think over the placement of all the appliances, furniture and other elements necessary for the kitchen.

Manufacturing materials

Here, not only the aesthetic component is important, but also the properties of an operational nature. Be sure to take into account all the features, individual indicators of the room: humidity, temperature regime. Cases and facades are often made of chipboard, MDF, plastic, natural wood. Countertops are most often made of stone, artificial and natural, or plastic.

If the budget is limited, the most common option is chipboard, especially for the frame. For facades, chipboard with an aluminum profile is perfect, since it is durable, inexpensive and very practical to maintain.

MDF material is considered even longer in terms of service life.

It is tougher, more resistant to moisture and temperature influences. Its obvious advantages include a rich selection of textures and colors.

When it comes to choosing a countertop, the savings here can cost a lot. You should choose only the most durable materials - natural or artificial stone. They will last a really long time, because they do not react to steam, water, heat. They are not afraid of mechanical damage inevitable when working with sharp objects.

An artificial stone is more affordable and more convenient to install. Plastic is the most practical in the price range, but its service life is short.

Styles

It is important to choose the corner-type kitchen interior design not from photographs in fashion magazines, but based on the characteristics of your room, taste, and the general style of an apartment or house. It is worth considering in more detail the most common and relevant areas.

  • Classic. This style is very elegant, it seems to be out of fashion, no changes diminish its popularity. Characteristic features: naturalness of material and colors, severity of outlines, minimalistic decor and no frills. The presence of thread or glass in the hinged modules is mandatory.
  • Vanguard. This is an extremely fashionable trend. It takes into account all the latest design inventions, unusual and expressive. Characteristic features: unusual shapes, complex non-standard decor, eye-catching accessories.
  • Country. This is a sophisticated style that will look especially good in the version of a country house or summer cottage. Characteristic features: maximum of natural materials, wood, ceramics, stone, rattan are preferred. If metal elements are required, they are made of copper or brass. Country music is distinguished by a variety of decorative elements, ornaments, accessories, open shelves on which wicker baskets, clay jugs, and wildflowers are located.
  • High tech. It is distinguished by an abundance of metal elements, purity of forms, non-trivial color solutions, and a non-standard approach to decor. Cabinets, as a rule, are wide and voluminous, the lines are smooth and laconic. The use of small intricate accessories is unacceptable. Everything should be clear and simple.
  • Modern. This style has the features of classics and hi-tech, the forms are quite correct, well-defined, while the design is softer. There are many elements of the horizontal plan, the decor is minimalistic, but at the same time luxurious. The main differences are versatility and restrained elegance.

How to choose?

The design of the kitchen interior should be chosen based primarily on the size and shape of the room. In order to choose modules for the wall and floor, figure out what to place in the corner, what part of the space to leave open, you need to understand that the main goal is comfort. Most of the difficulties, as a rule, arise with projects for a small kitchen.

The more space, the more options for choosing styles, shapes, amount of furniture.

If the area is small, the window is the only one and does not provide a sufficient amount of illumination, preference should be given to light shades. They will expand the space, add light and air. A perfect solution - glossy surfaces of facades, countertops, apron. It not only looks very noble, but also reflects light, objects, visually making the room larger.

If you decide to place the sink in the corner, think carefully about the lighting, there will be clearly not enough overhead light there. Built-in lights around the kitchen perimeter solve problems with lighting the work area.

Regardless of the size of the room, consider placing one side of the working corner on a wall with a window. This will give the work surface a lot of light, look peculiar, and save space. Those modules that cannot be placed on the wall due to the presence of a window can be planned above the soft dining area.

Open glass shelves will significantly free up space in small kitchens.
