In connection with the transition from analog TV to digital TV, people buy either a new TV with a built-in T2 adapter, or a set-top box that allows you to watch TV channels in digital quality. For this reason, there is a problem with the connection of this device to the TV set. Our article describes how to pair the receiver with television equipment.

Receiver Is a device whose purpose is to receive a signal. It decodes it and converts it into an analog signal or into a digital one (depending on the option of displaying it on the screen). The converted signal is already sent to the TV.

Before going into the details of connecting a TV to a set-top box, it is worth considering the types of receivers.

There are three types of them:

  • satellite;
  • cable;
  • set-top boxes such as IPTV.

The first version of the decoder is quite expensive and has many connectors. This receiver has enough power to transmit a high-quality signal and has advanced functionality.

In addition, some varieties of such models are capable of connecting an optical mouse, which greatly simplifies the operation of the set-top box.

Cable options have significant dimensions, which is not very convenient during operation. However, this is offset by a huge number of benefits. For example, some models have more than one TV tuner, support multiple formats (DVB-C, DVB-T2, DVB-S2). Expensive modifications have one or more connectors for the Cl + card. It is also worth noting their great power and memory capacity, the presence of a Wi-Fi module.

As for the IPTV set-top box, such a device has a feature to distribute the signal (for example, throughout the room) using IPTV technology. With the help of such equipment, you can display an image on a computer, laptop, smartphone. To do this, just connect the set-top box to the router - and the signal can be caught on any device.

Connection features

Signal transmission is based on video compression using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 technology... In this regard, the receiver received another name - a decoder. This device has several connectors, but we will talk about them later.

To connect such a device to a TV, you must adhere to some recommendations. They are described below.

  1. Preparing the device for operation. We unpack, remove the protective film.
  2. There is also a film on the cable that needs to be cut. But this must be done carefully so as not to damage the protective layer.
  3. We fold back the film and fasten the f-connectors.
  4. Disconnect the TV from the network.
  5. Now the decoder cable can be connected to the connector directly transmitting the picture of the device - the TV.
  6. If the antenna was connected to the TV, then now it must be connected to the decoder. The equipment has a separate entrance.
  7. Plugging in and configuring. After the TV and decoder are connected to the network, you can start tuning channels. To do this, just turn it on on the TV. It will run automatically. If the connection is made correctly, then a quick search for TV channels will be guaranteed.

The ways

When you independently connect the receiver to the TV receiver, you can use one of several schemesdescribed below.

RCA

This option is usually used if you need to connect an older TV. The RCA connector is the same "tulip". This same option was used earlier when connecting DVD players. If you look at the device of the cord, then on each side you can see 3 contacts of different colors: yellow, red and white. The white and red cords are responsible for audio, and the yellow cord is for video. The connectors on the TV and set-top box are the same colors. You just need to pair the TV and set-top box using this cable, taking into account the color. When connecting, disconnect the power from the TV and the decoder.

"Tulips" cannot transmit a picture in good quality, therefore, during the broadcast, a variety of interference is likely to occur, the image may be indistinct.

It is also worth noting that the maximum possible signal quality is 1080p.

S-Video

This connector also belongs to the already obsolete connection options, since new TV modifications do not contain such connectors. Still, old TV sets can be connected to the receiver via the S-Video connector.

However, this cable can only carry video signal. To connect audio, you need to use one more cable, which may not be included with either the TV or the set-top box. This fact makes it difficult to connect the TV to a decoder.

If we compare connections using an RCA cable and an S-Video cable, then we can say that the latter option is much preferable to the first one, since in this case you can get a fairly high quality picture - the broadcast will be rich and realistic.

Using this method, you can get a good digital signal, but it is considered an outdated connection option due to its size. This connector supports stereo, S-Video and RGB. The cable is equipped with tulips at one end and a wide connector at the other. To properly connect the cable, you need to connect the tulips to the receiver, and the wide connector to the TV.

When buying a cable, you need to take into account the following point: SCART cable is sold in various modifications. For this reason, it is necessary to carefully inspect the nests and photograph them.

RF

This method allows you to connect equipment via a satellite dish or a regular cable. However, it is worth knowing that with such a connection, the video quality will be the same as when connecting with "tulips". For this reason, it is advisable to use this approach if the consumer has a TV receiver with a small diagonal. Additionally, it should be noted that this connection enables the user to connect two TVs. But in this case, the decoding device must have an RF output and a modulator. It is worth noting that not all decoders have these additional features.

YPbPr and YCbCr

These connectors are designed in a similar way to RCA plugs. However, the picture quality is much better - in this case, the video can be viewed in HD quality. The cord consists of five plugs: white and red made of aluminum, red, blue and green made of plastic. Such an interface has a binary coding system. To connect the set-top box to the TV using such a cable, you need to connect the green, red and blue connectors to the contacts marked "Video", and red and white to the connectors marked "Audio".

If we talk about the purpose, then the blue plug is responsible for the brightness and quality composition of blue on the screen, red for brightness and red. The green connector is required to synchronize the image, and also to adjust the brightness.

Using this cable option, you can connect digital broadcasting without any problems. HDMI cable - a coaxial cord with good carrying capacity. This cable has connectors at the ends. The video signal in this connection option will have Full HD resolution.

How to connect to two TVs?

The set-top box allows you to connect two television receivers to one signal in one chain at once. There are several options such an attachment. These will be discussed below.

  1. One of the TV sets is connected to the decoder using an RF connector, the other - a SCART cable.
  2. By means of an RF modulator. This device resembles a conventional outlet tee. Its purpose is to split the signal into several streams. The number of streams determines the number of connected TVs and depends on the splitter.
  3. The third option is based on connecting one TV to the HDMI connector, and the second to SCART or RCA.

However, when connecting 2 transmitting devices to 1, a number of disadvantages arise.

  • it will not be possible to view two (or more) different TV channels simultaneously on all paired TVs. It turns out that viewing is possible only one channel on all TVs.
  • when a decoder is connected to a TV using a cable longer than 15 meters, very noticeable interference occurs on the TV's picture tube.
  • channel switching is carried out from the place where the receiver is connected.

As for the advantages, they include the ability to watch several TVs at once without buying additional devices, except for one receiver.

How to setup?

Channel tuning is done in automatic mode. Some TVs are equipped with a control panel directly on the external panel, while some of them can only be set using the remote control.

To tune channels through control on the TV itself, you need to find the desired button on the external panel and click "Next". After that, automatic configuration will start. Then you need to confirm the preservation of TV channels.

To set up a broadcast using the remote, you must follow the guidelines below.

    1. First you need to find the "Menu" button on the control panel. Click it.
    2. A window will open. In this window, you need to select the item "Channel settings".
    3. Confirm the action by clicking the "OK" button.
    4. After the search for channels is completed, you need to save them by completing the proposed confirmation.
