Phillips TVs stand out from other brands for their technical and practical features. But for an ordinary user, it is much more important to delve into the specific positions of the lineup. An ordinary consumer should also study the features of the choice and operation of Phillips equipment.

About the manufacturer

It is generally assumed that the country of incorporation of this company is Netherlands. But these are, rather, legal subtleties. The general scale of the manufacturer's activities has long gone beyond the borders of the Netherlands and even Western Europe as a whole. The company was founded in 1891 and has been steadily moving forward over the past decades. Today Phillips TVs are enjoying impressive popularity in various countries.

But it must be emphasized that since 2012, they have been collected only by third-party companies. The Dutch company itself focused on copyright management and label leasing. In Europe, Asia and the American continent, the right to put this logo now belongs to TP Vision.

The Russian TP Vision plant is located in the village of Shushary. It produces about a million TV sets per year, while the enterprise uses only Chinese components for Russia and Asian countries.

Marking

Phillips model designations are rigorous and carefully thought out. The manufacturer identifies the diagonal of the display with the first two digits. This is usually followed by the letter P (it can mean both the abbreviated brand name and the device belongs to the category of TVs). Next is the designation of permission. For devices based on LED screens, it is as follows:

  • U - extra high (3840x2160);
  • F - Full HD (or else 1920 x 1080 pixels);
  • H - 1366x768 points.

OLED models use only one letter O. By default, all such models come with only higher resolution screens, and there is no need to additionally mark it. But the letter designation of the tuners used is necessarily used:

  • S - means there is a complete set of DVB-T / T2 / C / S / S2;
  • H - combination of DVB-T + DVB-C;
  • T - one of the T / T2 / C options;
  • K - DVB-T / C / S / S2 combination.

Then the numbers indicate:

  • a television receiver series;
  • symbolic designation of the design approach;
  • year of its release;
  • C (curved models only);
  • region of production.

Dimensions (edit)

Manufacturers, including Phillips, are trying to increase the size of the screen. There are far fewer TVs with a diagonal of less than 32 inches today than there were 5 or 6 years ago. And according to some marketers, the main consumer demand is for 55-inch TVs. But the company is ready to offer customers and devices with screens of other dimensions:

  • 40 inches;
  • 42 inches;
  • 50 inches;
  • 22 inches (great choice for a small kitchen).

Popular models

Budget

How to choose?

From the very beginning, it is worth making a reservation: it is better to leave financial considerations outside the brackets. Rather, immediately outline the amount of expenses that can be made, and no longer return to this point. As for the screen diagonal, the requirement is traditional: to make it comfortable and beautiful. A pretentious huge panel on the wall of a small room is unlikely to allow you to enjoy a gorgeous picture. The same is the case with small models set up in a large hall.

You should not pay special attention to brightness and contrast. By default, they are selected well, and then the user can change these parameters in a wide range. Important: there is no point in purchasing models with a curved screen - this is just a marketing ploy. The list of interfaces and additional functions must be selected individually; if the purpose of an option is not clear, then most likely it will not be needed.

Design is also chosen, guided solely by their own taste.

How to set up and use?

Phillips, like any other manufacturer, recommends using a universal remote control as the last resort - when it is impossible to use the original device. But there is one subtlety that is often overlooked: remotes from different models of this brand are interchangeable. This greatly simplifies the choice in the store. Although it is better to consult with the sellers. In addition, a strictly individual remote controls a maximum of functions, not just volume and images.

Important: before trying these or those options, looking for ready-made answers on the network, it is better to carefully re-read the operating instructions. If something is not clear there, you should immediately contact the support service. This will almost always solve the problem without losing the warranty.

Firmware must be downloaded only from the official authorized site. When using firmware from third-party resources, the consequences can be unpredictable.

Phillips recommends doing the following for software updates:

  • format the USB drive to FAT32 format;
  • make sure that after that there is at least 1 GB of free space;
  • go to the software selection page on the corporate website;
  • correctly indicate the version of the TV (in accordance with the labeling or with the instructions for use);
  • choose the appropriate (newer) version of the program;
  • agree to the terms of use;
  • save file;
  • unpack it to the root directory of the drive;
  • turn on the TV and connect the drive to it;
  • follow the prompts that appear;
  • wait from 5 to 15 minutes (depending on the TV model and the volume of the update being installed);
  • after the brand logo appears and the TV is fully loaded, turn it off and then turn it on again;
  • use it as usual.

How exactly to connect a Phillips TV to Wi-Fi is usually written in the user manual. But the general procedure is the same for all modifications. The safest and fastest way to connect is using an Ethernet cable. Insert the plug into the LAN port located at the back or side. The problem is that it forces cables to be pulled “all over the house”, which is extremely inconvenient and impractical.

The output might be as follows:

  • plug the cable into the LAN port (designated as Network on some models);
  • insert the second plug into the port of the router (most often this connector is yellow);
  • press the Home button on the control panel;
  • go to the settings section;
  • go to the subsection of wired and wireless networks, where they choose the connection option;
  • click on the connect button;
  • select a suitable wired mode again;
  • click "Finish".

You can reboot your Phillips TV using a special option in its menu. They go to the "General settings", and there they already select the command to reinstall the software. The selection is confirmed with the OK button on the main control panel. Important: if ISF settings have been made, they should be locked before reinstalling. Otherwise, the settings will be irreversibly deleted, and they will have to be done again.

It is recommended to use a Wi-Fi adapter to connect to the router wirelessly. Attention: it is better that this device is made by a reputable firm and supports the maximum possible ranges. To connect the media server, they use the DLNA protocol. And this means the need to connect to a router. If the connection is made, then you can simply start the DLNA server on the computer and play the content on the TV “over the air”. And finally, it is worth considering the solution to one more problem - setting a timer. For this purpose, first enter the main menu. From there they move to the TV settings section. And already there, in the preferences section, the shutdown timer is usually "hidden".

Attention: if the need for a timer has disappeared, they simply mark 0 minutes in the corresponding section.

Error codes

Even equipment as reliable as Phillips TVs can be subject to various malfunctions. With the basic system L01.2 Е АА code "0" denotes perfect condition - the system does not detect any problems. Error "1" occurs only on specimens officially shipped to the United States and indicates an increased level of X-ray radiation. Code "2" says that the line scan protection has worked. A problem has occurred in the sweep transistors or components connected to them.

Fault "3" indicates a frame scan failure. In this case, experts check first of all the TDA8359 / TDA9302 microcircuits. Code "4" indicates a breakdown of the stereo decoder. "5" -th error - failure of the Reset signal in the power supply system. Fault 6, on the other hand, indicates that the normal operation of the IRC bus is abnormal. It is also useful to know other codes:

  • "7" - general overload protection;
  • "8" - incorrect raster correction;
  • "9" - failure of the EEPROM system;
  • "10" - incorrect interaction of the tuner with IRC;
  • "11" - black level protection.

But users also face other problems that are not always indicated by a clear code. If the TV is frozen, that is, it does not respond to any user actions, you must first check whether it is connected to the network, whether there is current in the wires, whether the remote control is working. Important: even if there is electricity throughout the house, the problem may be related to:

  • a fork;
  • the wire of the TV itself;
  • outlet;
  • section from the meter to the outlet.

But in modern smart TVs, freezing can also be provoked by a firmware failure. In this case, you can update the software yourself. You just need to make sure that his version is exactly what you need.

Attention: for relatively old TVs, the more correct step is to contact the service center employees. If the sound is missing, you must first check if this is due to poor broadcast quality or defects in the file being played.

Sometimes the situation is completely anecdotal: the volume is turned down to a minimum or the sound is turned off with the Mute button. In more serious cases, you have to check the performance of the main electronic board, audio subsystem and internal wires, contacts, speakers. Obviously, then it would be more correct to turn to professionals. If there is no signal, you will have to check the antenna or cable connection first. When no deviations are found in them, you will also need to call a specialist.

Review overview

Customer reviews of Phillips TVs are certainly favorable. This technique copes well with its main task, demonstrating a clear, rich picture. Power cords work well and are fairly durable. Electronics in Phillips TVs, if they freeze, is quite rare. They work out their cost in full.

Background lighting (in models where it is used) works well. But it's worth emphasizing that the Phillips TV's keystroke response often slows down. The design of any model is at the highest level. Also in the reviews they note:

  • excessively dark coloration of some versions;
  • functionality;
  • stable operation in the Wi-Fi range;
  • lack of "brakes", provided the correct setting;
  • variety of applications;
  • not very convenient control panels;
  • durability of all basic components;
  • increased sensitivity to line voltage drops.
