Almost everyone met with such an annoying and unpleasant procedure as poisoning cockroaches. Despite the wide range of means to combat them, hordes of pests still flood apartments, houses and many other human habitats. The most common "illegal" inhabitants of apartments and houses are red cockroaches. This article will tell you about how they look, where they come from, the nuances of their reproduction, and how to etch them.

What do they look like and how long do they live?

The red cockroach is an unpleasant-looking insect, often also referred to as the Prusak. So it is called only in Russia, since it is believed that its first representatives came from Prussia. In other countries, this medium-sized cockroach has different names. It is one of the representatives of the cockroach superorder insects. In total, about 7.5 thousand species of cockroaches are known. As already mentioned, the Prusak is rather small - its length is 1.5 cm (an adult). The cockroach got its name ("red") because of the predominant red and yellow shades in which all parts of its body are painted.

The common red cockroach consists of a head, cephalothorax and abdomen. In addition to the specific appearance and structure characteristic of all cockroaches, it is also worth noting its oblong head and dark wide-set eyes. As an important feature, the description can include the presence of special suction cups on the paws. Thanks to them the insect can move along walls and ceilings. Despite the fact that the Prussians are born with wings, they cannot fly throughout their subsequent life. The wings are needed so that they can glide and not fall when descending from a great height. Male individuals are distinguished by a narrow body, a wedge-shaped abdomen with an edge not covered by wings. Females are relatively large - their abdomen is wide, rounded and completely covered with wings.

The red cockroach adapts well and quickly to new conditions. He can go without food for a long time. Representatives of this species of cockroaches prefer a nocturnal lifestyle. The main helpers of these insects are whiskers. With a mustache, the cockroach is well oriented in the environment, since they make it possible to smell various smells. With the loss of even one whisker, the cockroach ceases to navigate in the environment. This becomes an almost complete guarantee that the insect will die pretty quickly.

"Home" red cockroach lives from about 8-10 months... Home conditions are considered the best for a cockroach - usually it is warm in living quarters and a lot of food (more precisely, its remnants). Cockroaches especially love foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugar. Such food can extend their lifespan. In the wild, they live less.

How do they reproduce and what do they eat?

As you know, cockroaches reproduce very actively. To the displeasure of all the owners in whose dwelling they settled, it is worth noting that the Prussians breed throughout the year. Let's take a closer look at how this happens. Reproduction takes place at the initiative of the female. She begins to secrete odorous substances that attract males, and also scare away other living creatures. After mating, males leave their sex cells in the female's body. Due to this, females can lay eggs several times without subsequent mating.Sometimes a single mating is enough for a female to lay eggs on her own throughout her life.

Their development is characterized as “incomplete metamorphosis”. This means that incomplete transformation occurs - the larvae do not have the pupal stage, but they become full-fledged adults after passing through several molts.

The female lays approximately 30 eggs in a brown capsule, which is located at the tip of her abdomen. The capsule containing the eggs is called the ooteca. It can be seen on the tip of the female's abdomen. Each egg hatches between 2 and 4 weeks. The hatched larvae are white, then with each of the next six molts they begin to darken and gradually acquire their reddish-brown color. For a full life cycle, females carry 4-10 such ootheca. Thus, the uterus can give life to almost 300 new cockroaches.

As a rule, red cockroaches prefer to eat almost all foods that a person eats. In bad times, they can transfer to paper, fabric, wallpaper glue (and the wallpaper itself), soap. Cockroaches can live without food for a month, without water - for about a week.

Do they bite?

Cockroaches have a special mouth mechanism that allows them to gnaw and chew on even relatively hard things (such as paper). In theory, cockroaches can bite. Rather, they can slightly bite through human skin. They do this in order to drink blood. She replaces them with water. When some exotic cockroaches bite, you can see not only a trace, but also an allergic reaction. The reason for this is tropomyosin, which is contained in their saliva. This protein causes allergies.

However, as a rule, red cockroaches do not bite. But part of their diet are keratinized pieces of the dermis. Simply put, they can climb onto a person and feed on pieces of dead skin. In particular, there are cases when they ate pieces of dermis from the hands and face of a person. They can bite. They are allowed to do this, as has already been said, by the jaws. But this behavior is not typical for domestic cockroaches. They do this in extremely rare cases in the complete absence of food and water. Much more likely is a tick, bug, fly and mosquito bite.

Reasons for the appearance

The first and main reason that the Prussians appear in the house is unsanitary conditions... The cockroach is attracted by dirty dishes with food pieces, food crumbs on the floor or other surfaces. These insects will also come to the place where sugar and flour are scattered.

The reason for the sudden appearance of cockroaches in a house where they have never been or have not been for a long time can be neighbors. Neighborhood with people who had the misfortune to "shelter" cockroaches with almost 100% probability will lead to the fact that they will live not only with you, but with all neighbors. This is especially true for apartment buildings. In this case, it does not matter which side the neighbors will be on - the insects will move even into rooms that are sealed at first glance.

It is often difficult to understand where cockroaches come from in a private house, especially if the house is cleaned regularly and there is no unsanitary conditions. Perhaps they were brought with things from trips or from other things that were taken by the owners for overexposure. Cockroaches live in many hotels, as well as on some trains and long-distance buses.

These pests can also enter through sewers and drainpipes. Ventilation pipes are their favorite route. Therefore, it is advisable to cover them with a fine mesh.

How to get rid of?

You need to fight cockroaches immediately after at least one of them has been found. In an apartment, literally in two weeks, several cockroaches can turn into a horde with their already chosen habitat and overnight stay.

First of all, it is necessary to put things in order in the apartment or any other living space. From now on, there is no need to leave dirty dishes - they need to be washed immediately.Food containers will also need to be removed or sealed immediately. There should be no pieces of food or food left in the entire living area with free access to it. Also, be sure to regularly throw out the trash. The best way to get the Prussians out forever is to block access to water. It is she who is the basis of their life. It is necessary to eliminate all leaks, as well as replace pipes that may remain wet for a long period. The room must remain dry - there must be no puddles or containers with water on the surfaces. Only after completing these relatively simple manipulations can you begin to poison the parasites.

It is worth noting that it is useless to take out cockroaches even if the neighbors do not follow the rules of hygiene, do not struggle with unsanitary conditions. Most often, cockroaches live in the kitchen and in bathrooms / washrooms. Therefore, traps, poison and poisons for cockroaches, first of all, are put there.

Scarers and traps

There are simple traps and electrical ones. The first are sticky paper with bait. The electric trap also contains bait. Insects, driven by this scent, enter the trap, where they are killed with a small shock. Electric traps need to be cleaned out from time to time. They also require a power connection.

Traps can be purchased or made by yourself. To make the simplest trap at home, a can or container is taken, along the edges it is coated with a sticky substance (for example, petroleum jelly). A bait (usually food) is placed in the middle.

To prevent the appearance of parasites, repellents are used. The most common repeller is ultrasonic. This device creates ultrasonic waves that cause parasites to stay away from it. It must be remembered that the use of the device is only prevention, and it becomes ineffective if the cockroaches have already started.

Chemicals

They are also called insecticides. Now products of this category can be found in every even small shop. Several categories can be distinguished - gels, aerosols, crayons, powders and emulsions. In especially critical situations, large-scale disinfection is carried out. They are carried out by special companies. This procedure is also carried out in government agencies, as well as office buildings, shopping centers, workshops or other non-residential premises.

Folk ways of getting rid

These methods are the most popular even today. The first assistant in the fight against cockroaches is boric acid. It is mixed with mashed potatoes and spread throughout the apartment or house. The acid dehydrates the cockroach and dies. The method is not suitable for those who keep animals at home. Also, you do not need to do this if there are small children at home.

In pest control, it is used and ammonia. Its smell is disliked not only by people, but also by cockroaches. It must be added to the water, which will later need to be washed floors, shelves and even walls.

As you know, cockroaches afraid of the cold and they do not tolerate it well. Therefore, if the weather in your area falls below -5 degrees, then you can only open the windows in the room for several hours.

At such a low temperature, most of the pests will die relatively quickly. This method against cockroaches is not only the simplest, but also the most budgetary and not laborious.

Bay leaf fights cockroaches. It contains aromatic substances that negatively affect the respiratory system of the insect. One or two leaves will be enough to scare off cockroaches in a drawer or closet. For premises, decoctions or infusions are used. The recipe is quite simple - you need to soak 15 leaves of lavrushka in 1 glass of boiling water in a thermos. For infusions, instead of boiling water, use moonshine. You need to infuse the broth for 4 hours, and the infusion - 2 weeks in a dark place.Further, with these broths / infusions, you can wipe the places where the risk of cockroaches is very high. Of course, during a cockroach invasion, it makes no sense to fight them with a lavrushka. This method is prophylactic.

A good remedy is also spraying with a solution of elderberry leaves... Several branches of elderberry are boiled for a little over an hour in 1 liter of water. Next, spraying is carried out on all surfaces where pests can live.

Elderberry leaves also help in the fight against ants and rodents.

Birch tar fights many not only garden pests, but also household pests. It is also an antiseptic. The smell of tar is poorly tolerated by almost all pests. They practically cannot be poisoned (meaning a person) and can be used in the fight against cockroaches in any form - in the form of spraying, adding to water, which can later be washed floors or surfaces. Of the minuses, it is worth noting the fact that an unpleasant smell can remain in the room for a long time and on everything that the tar touched.
