When it comes to designer coffee tables, the most accurate synonym for luxury is grace. No trends of the times will be able to deprive the interior of our home of the symbol of dynamism and progressiveness. This piece of furniture is a "magic wand": it always appears at the right time and in the right place, "moving" around the house and finding a job now in the living room, then in the bedroom, then on the loggia. In a word, if it were not in the list of furniture attributes, then it would certainly have to be invented.

Materials (edit)

Designer furniture can be so many-sided and eccentric that the most unexpected materials are sometimes used for its manufacture. In one design, two or three types of raw materials can be succinctly combined, and this will not be considered a manifestation of bad taste:

  • So, the usual solid wood table natural wood can be decorated with a semi-precious stone countertop or have a glass stand at the bottom of which a live aquarium is built.
  • Wooden coffee tables most in demand among the average consumer. They are cozy, give a warm and friendly atmosphere to the room, regardless of the stylistic solution and the unusual shape of the structure.

To harmoniously fit them into the desired interior, it is enough to choose the desired shade of wood, which will be succinctly combined with the rest of the furniture.

  • Glass products look modern and fresh, give airiness to any room due to their transparency. The most non-standard materials can be chosen as a support for the tables: processed driftwood, blocks of natural stone, corals, bronze dolphins.

For manufacturing, tempered glass is used, shock-resistant and capable of withstanding heavy loads.

  • Metal - one of the strongest and most durable materials. The complexity of its processing makes such models of designer tables expensive. And the significant weight of the finished products makes it difficult to move them around the room. But the original design and long service life of the items will not leave indifferent true connoisseurs of interior art.

Functionality

You can choose a coffee table, depending on its purpose in the interior:

  • Traditional... Usually a stationary option, which may have a storage system for books, magazines and various knickknacks. Such a product is relevant for the living room, in the dining room or kitchen can replace the dining table.

Depending on your wishes, such a table can be used as a cozy corner for receiving guests with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, as a work area, a mini-library.

  • Decorative table serves as an element of decoration of the room.
  • Platform table - a product on one high leg, a kind of podium for one item, for example, a beautiful Egyptian figurine or other decorative interior items.
  • Transformer is able to transform as if by magic due to the presence of movable mechanisms and connection details. The table is a classic version of a coffee table, which can be easily turned into a full-fledged dining table when guests arrive. It can be a sliding structure or a book-table. Other models allow you to create your own mini-office, turning into a convenient work desk, on which you can put a laptop, tablet, lay out papers. The tabletops of such products are able to rise to a comfortable height, fixing at several levels.
  • Hooked the copy forms an inverted "P", with the base located under the sofa, and the table top above it. It is convenient to put a cup of coffee on the table, put the TV remote control, the morning newspaper.
  • Contemporary tables on wheels... The main feature of the products is mobility. They can be used to effectively serve snacks and drinks.

Forms

The imagination of designers sometimes gives the most unexpected results, they manage to combine the incongruous and create completely unpredictable designs. Along with the classic rectangular version, today you can purchase a round or oval coffee table, a square or polygonal product.

But the most intriguing are the non-standard-looking models. Designer interior items can have not just bizarre geometric shapes and lines, they can take on, at first glance, inappropriate looks for these purposes: turn into a crib or a trolley on wheels, instead of a table top have a ballet tutu on ballerina's legs, imitate a garden bench rattan or fishing boat.

What style are they suitable for?

Modern furniture products are laconic, functional and suitable for any interior design:

  • Classical room implies the simplest wood coffee table. The usual shapes of such a product are acceptable: a rectangular or round version. As accents, there can be a bright decor of the base or table legs, in harmony with the rest of the room.

The shade of the wood should be chosen so that the furniture is a single set.

  • Provencal furniture - these are delicate pastel shades, as if burnt out in the sun, simplicity of lines, comfort and coziness. The interior of Provence is, first of all, a love of antiquity. Most often these are models made of natural wood or wicker products with aging elements: chips, cracks, peeling paint, scuffs. Designers love to use artificial patina in these cases.
  • Country Is clarity of lines, simplicity and convenience. Furniture of this direction does not allow monograms and drawings (with the exception of a small plant pattern or cage). A minimum of decor, textures and functions is what this style "from the past" requires. Multifunctional transforming tables for country music are irrelevant.
  • Where there is truly no limit to design imagination, it is in a modern style... Modern coffee tables are laconic forms and smooth lines, practicality and convenience, harmony and originality. It is a combination of fashion trends and functional utility.

All sorts of materials are used for the Art Nouveau direction, but designers often prefer high-tech plastic.

  • Brutal "street" loft associated with roughly finished metal parts and wood. The products are unusual for the average consumer, but they look impressive in the interior. Many ideas came to the designers' minds after visiting half-abandoned factories and manufactories, where they drew their inspiration.

A typical example of a loft-style coffee table is a product that resembles a cart or a stylized sewing machine. Furniture can even be made by hand from repainted wooden boxes.

  • Pop Art... Furniture in the 60s style is characterized by glossy surfaces, bright colors, clear geometric shapes and the use of different types of plastic. The main task of the pop art style is to transform ordinary things into something fantastic. Designer products in this direction are real “works of art”.

A pop art table can be represented by a human hand as a base, holding or without a glass top, or it can be stylized with a poster of Marilyn Monroe.

Selection Tips

When choosing a piece of furniture, you need to think carefully about what functions you put on it and what you expect from it in the interior:

  • The coffee table should match the style of the room, harmonize with it in color, texture and overall impression. You should not experiment by adding a rough loft product to the Provencal style.
  • Different materials are acceptable for the same style, this is considered the norm. When choosing, you should focus on other items in the room, textiles and wall decoration. The surface of the product should not repel, the material should be safe for health and easy to use.
  • The shape and size of the table should allow it to harmoniously fit into the surrounding space, so that all family members and guests are comfortable with it.
  • The model must fulfill its functional purpose. It is not necessary to purchase a fitted version for the working area of the library. And in a nursery, it will be completely inappropriate for a baby to purchase a product on wheels, it is better to choose a stable stationary structure.

Modern trends

The most relevant solutions today are associated with the most popular concepts in interior fashion:

  • Computerization and high technologies have also reached interior items. It is difficult to imagine modern furniture production without the use of innovative solutions. A striking example of the latest technological advances is a coffee table with a tablet top. The unique gadget can be used not only as a home PC, it can be used as a furniture accessory familiar to everyone: lay out newspapers and magazines on it, put a cup with a hot drink.

A special heat- and shock-resistant coating protects the touchscreen from damage, so no spilled coffee is scary.

  • The model of a coffee table with a biofireplace looks no less amazing. The dimensions of the hearth itself are small, but the spectacular sight from it exceeds all expectations. The bio-fireplace consumes very little oxygen and emits almost no smoke, the table can be easily installed in a room with windows open for ventilation.

It is much more romantic to arrange a dinner accompanied by a fiery dance created by a biofireplace than to the usual candles.

A designer coffee table can be made by hand. How to do this, see the next video.
