It is impossible to imagine a modern interior without such a piece of furniture as a table. Depending on its functional purpose, the table can be dining, computer, magazine, work, toilet, etc. This piece of furniture is so firmly established in our interiors that sometimes it seems that it is capable of performing an exclusively practical function.

However, designers offer a variety of original and creative table design ideas that will easily turn even the most boring model into a real work of design art.

Types and features

You can start with the design options for the dining table, because the main area of the family hearth is the living room. In the evenings, everyone is drawn here like a magnet, adults and children are in a hurry to share how the day was lived.

  • You can cover the dining table with a bright tablecloth, and this simple solution will delight everyone who gathers for dinner. Or you can experiment and guarantee a real sensation if you decorate the countertop with flowerpots with bright fruits: grapefruit, oranges, lemon, lime. The feeling of celebration will be immediately conveyed to your family. A non-standard thought would be to put vases with cones, berry branches, candles in glasses.
  • Or arrange a real "challenge" - pour water into a large bowl, drown bright pebbles at the bottom and let petals of large flowers float above them: roses, peonies, tulips. Together with fragrant boats, you can dip bright green leaves. You have a pond in the middle of the dining area, so charming that no one wants to get up from their seat!
  • Such a "reservoir" can be replaced with another design, created with your own hands. For example, come up with a slide with dessert, a "fountain" of juices, a pyramid with sweets or a painted nesting doll with an edible surprise inside. This decision will charm your family and friends! On a particularly solemn occasion, the dishes are placed on organza, satin, silk. Such a wonderful metamorphosis will shock the whole family!
  • If in the living room, in addition to the dining room, there is also a kitchen table, then in the spirit of new trends it may turn out to be glass. Here, the use of a tablecloth is inappropriate, it is necessary to achieve the effect of transformation by selecting special wooden, plastic or stone supports. A stylistically correct solution would be to use rugs with elegant patterns, wicker and fabric napkins that are in good harmony with glass.
  • The real scope of your imagination can be provided during the "reanimation" of a wooden written rarity. If an old table made of good wood has survived, then you should not send it to the country. The restored main piece of the study, decorated with a new polish or self-adhesive film, will last another ten years and will look absolutely exclusive. And you can also replace fittings on its pedestals and drawers. You yourself will not recognize your long-liver and will never exchange it for a newfangled edition version!
  • It is worth envying the owners, who have a bright table with a silver pattern "lying around". You can repaint it with your own hands without stress and get a great dressing version in vintage style. The craquelure technique and soft beige paints are unusually suitable for such restoration.
  • The decor of the coffee table will be interesting to create using natural materials.Chestnuts, dried leaves, bamboo, even acorns will do. Weighty bamboo sticks can be put along the edge of the countertop. Decorate the ends using twine; it is best to attach it to hot glue. Then cover the entire structure with a thick varnish. Inside, for exotics, place, for example, corals. Upstairs as a "sarcophagus" - glass.
  • With a designer approach to business from an old table, you can construct a kitchen option in a Provencal spirit. To do this, it is enough to screw on the more textured legs and cover the surface with a powdery paint tone.
  • Ideas for reincarnation are easy to find for a computer desk. You can originally reinstall the old shelves with books, so that the working space for a monitor or laptop expands. The effect of a new fashion acquisition will appear.

Decoration materials

There are many materials for such creativity. These are stained glass, tiles, paintings, mosaics, and other components of your artistic impulse. If you want to breathe new life into an old object through tiles, then the work is quite doable with your own hands. You need to stock up on elegant tiles, it should be smooth, then it is easier to glue it, provide a special glue, a plywood shape to fit the countertop, and, in addition, wooden corners and grout. Plywood is fitted to the top surface, glued and left to dry completely.

Then the work continues as if the tiles were laid on the floor. Tiled elements are placed on glue on plywood according to a pre-planned pattern to create a nice pattern. The seams are carefully rubbed. Before preparing a mixture for refining joints, you must read the instructions. Anything that turns out to be superfluous must be removed with a dry cloth.

When the new coating is properly taken, the entire perimeter goes through the corners and at the end of the work they paint them to match the tiles.

The object, revived for the interior with the help of stained glass paints, looks like a unique author's work. This technique works best on a glass surface. Acrylic paints are ideal for this. The process is to lay out the drawing using templates and apply paints carefully. Pictures, of which there are many on the network, are suitable for the sample, the main thing is that their lines are clear.

You can draw the picture yourself. It is better to cover the finished stained-glass window with varnish, then you can safely pour water on such a masterpiece. In addition, it will receive a spectacular shine.

Painting

If you successfully repaint a worn piece of furniture, it will become a unique accent of your room. You can perform monochrome coloring, or you can mark out geometric shapes - squares, combinations of stripes, apply a stencil pattern. It is better to choose an ornamental motive, completely trusting your taste. Then you get a more romantic reading of the artist's intention.

To mark up a geometric pattern, you need to stock up on a simple pencil, sandpaper, ruler, primer, paint on wood, brushes, masking tape. If the color spots are conceived too large, it is better to use a sponge rather than a brush. It is used with a small roller.

Before repainting, it is worth deciding which color scheme you choose. White models look organic in kitchens. In the living room, a table full of colors becomes a decoration of the room.

Shades of yellow, red, turquoise or "spontaneously" multi-colored tables can be used as highlights. The last sentence only at first glance looks "too" abstractionist. But in reality, the product does not allow you to take your eyes off it - in front of you is a luxurious "northern lights" on the surface of old furniture!

Art painting

Masters and artists who decide to change the interior of a familiar room beyond recognition are advised to master the technique of artistic painting.It is necessary to choose an ornament, prepare dry herbs, putties and start work. Unexpectedly, an African motif may look, which is decorated with an edge or an openwork napkin laid out in the center. Everything is ruled by fantasy and invention.

Red, yellow and black are suitable for emphasizing African style. Lace needs to be saturated with a more delicate color scheme - white, silver, blue. You can decorate the model like beaded embroidery. There are special acrylic paints with a pearl shade for such a case.

It is best to transfer the drawing to the surface using a stencil. It is easy to get it if you put a sheet with a picture on cardboard (you can put it on an ordinary folder) and hold it with a sharp knife along the ornament,

First, it is required to degrease the field of activity with an alcohol "talker", draw the dot markings and then start working with paints. To make the painting neat, it is better to practice a little on paper. To complete the task, masking tapes are used, and sometimes just an unrestrained flight of imagination. This is called freeform decoration.

In general, art painting clearly emphasizes individuality. Even focusing on two colors, only certainly contrasting, you can achieve an incredibly original result. Many people like to paint tables with plant elements, and some put turtles and dragonflies on the cabinets. Refresh the table well with a thin brush.

An excellent effect is provided by painting with the help of tulle, which is attached with tape to the table, and through it the surface is "airy" painted.

Decoupage

It is decorating furniture with fabric and paper designs and giving them a special cracking effect. Paints, varnishes are used, an interesting solution is obtained in terms of color.

The preparatory steps are as follows:

  • the remnants of old varnish are removed from the surface;
  • the surface is leveled with a sandpaper to perfect smoothness;
  • acrylic primer is applied;
  • time is given to dry.

Then photographs, paper napkins, dry leaves, flowers or special decoupage cards are laid out. Everything is "cemented" with varnish in several layers, and under such a coating an incredibly fantasy, unexpected "plain" appears.

For the experiment, you can paste over the decorated surface with a bright cloth, even wallpaper. But waves and bulges are unacceptable here. Even buttons with colorful hats are suitable for decoration. Everything is easy to do with your own hands. Step-by-step beautifully decorate the table with decoupage is within the power of any novice artist-restorer.

The technique allows you to get a stylish or vintage piece of furniture from a dilapidated specimen. If, on the contrary, you are impressed by the aged furniture, then cover your rarity with craquelure varnish. Drying, it guarantees a "cracked" surface, the effect of the appearance of the "cobweb of yesteryear" on the table top. The same “age” is easy to achieve from the legs of the table for completeness and harmony of the ensemble.

Mosaic

To understand which mosaic will suit your table, you must first lay it out without gluing. The pieces can be anything you like. They can be easily obtained by breaking previously unnecessary ceramic items. Great for a nautical theme, seashells or beautiful pebbles. Such a picture is laid out more difficult, but the beauty is extraordinary. The glue is applied to small areas, the fragments are glued one at a time. It is better to apply grout on the seams with a brush.

The mosaic is well suited for a garden, country table. A scattering of small fragments creates a space of its own, especially if the fragments are well arranged.

Tiles of glass and mirrors are used as elements. It is not easy to create drawings from them. But on the other hand, the decoration will force your old table to shine with all the colors of the rainbow and give a solid holiday.

Stylistic choice

When you are working on your own masterpiece of design art, you can choose the style of decoration completely independently:

  • Provence style - the table is light, cozy, a little "French". From the outside, it looks as if it were old, in fact, functional and sophisticated.
  • Do you want to impress with the uniqueness of the household? Then you can emphasize the Provence style by using an old multi-colored scarf in the tabletop decor. Under glass or lacquer, the product will live for years, creating a cozy pastoral "rustic" melody in your kitchen or dining room.
  • As in the interior in general, minimalism can be used in the decor of the table - this is emphasized simplicity.
  • A table in the style of futurism - with mysterious, fabulous "deviations" - meets the tasks of a child's room.
  • An ambitious painted copy is considered to be the Empire style and is "demonstrated" in the living room.

So, the work is over. Time to invite guests to appreciate your design and be surprised at your resourcefulness. It seems not so much effort, but there is so much warmth, novelty and joy in the house!
