Modular racks are racks divided into tiers by panels. Most often, manufacturers offer open designs. The modules are easy to use, since the consumer can, at his discretion, choose the length of the shelves, their type and height, as well as the number and dimensions of the boxes. Household racks are a type of cabinet furniture. It is available in different sizes, designs and colors.

Characteristic

Modular shelving systems allow you to intelligently use the available space and organize a convenient place for storing various household items. Outwardly, such designs can resemble a library due to the many open shelves.

Any racking modules include the following elements:

  • racks and beams;
  • frames;
  • shelves;
  • back and front panels;
  • stubs.

When assembling such furniture, the use of fasteners is not required. The shelves are installed on the side racks using the perforation provided, which manufacturers perform with a certain pitch. Due to this feature, it is possible to change the height and number of shelves.

Modular systems can be completed with wire baskets or drawers. They are extended by means of guides fixed on the sides of the system. Baskets are designed to store home textiles.

Some designs have doors. They vary in height. Depending on the model of the rack, partitions can completely cover the entire section or several shelves.

Appointment

The modular shelving unit is a spacious storage for various items. Such furniture can be placed in any room of the apartment.

  • In the study or living room. In these areas, the modular shelving system fulfills an aesthetic and practical function. It acts as an interior decoration, as well as a place for storing books, various printed materials, documents. Houseplants, small souvenirs, decorative figurines are often placed on the shelves installed in living rooms.

  • In the hallway and dressing room. The purpose of the shelving in the hallway is the storage of shoes, umbrellas, brushes, keys, bags. Finding these things and objects in one place makes the life of the household more comfortable. For hallways and dressing rooms, constructions equipped with rods for clothes are suitable. In such systems, manufacturers often provide drawers.
  • In the children's room. Modular shelving is the best solution for storing books and toys. Multi-tiered structures are spacious and reliable. When choosing them, first of all, you need to give preference to safe models. Variations with smooth, streamlined shapes, made of wood, MDF or chipboard, are preferred. It is best to refuse glass structures.
  • In the kitchen and pantry. For these rooms, structures without a back wall are most often chosen. Kitchen modular shelves store bar glass, dishes, spices, sets and various decor items.
  • In bathroom. Modular open structures in the bathroom are designed to accommodate personal hygiene items: brushes, toothpastes, soaps, shampoos, gels. On the shelves, you can also store rolled towels, toilet paper, and various cosmetic products.

Dimensional modules are often used not only for storing things, but also for zoning space. Thanks to partitions with shelves, you can separate the bath area from the toilet, delimit the space in the large kitchen into a work area and a place for rest. A similar design is relevant in any room.

The main requirement that modular systems must meet when zoning a space is not to impede the free movement of family members around the room.

Advantages and disadvantages

Shelving modules have numerous advantages. Their main advantages include:

  • quick and easy assembly and disassembly in any order;
  • light weight, thanks to which the structure can be easily moved around the house;
  • budgetary cost;
  • versatility - modular systems can be installed in any room, they are able to harmoniously fit into the interior of the kitchen, living room, hallway, bathroom, bedroom or children's room;
  • a large assortment - there are solutions for sale with various configurations, types of installation, sizes (you can choose modules for both a spacious room and a small room).

In addition, modular systems cannot get boring, since, if necessary, the consumer can modify the design at his own discretion.

Modern household shelves are easy to use. They have a minimal amount of closed spaces (most of the offered models are completely open), they do not have handles and latches, which gives the system additional originality and airiness. Their only drawback is the duration of cleaning.

The fact is that dust quickly accumulates on open panels - for cleaning, you will need to completely empty the shelves.

Varieties

Those who believe that modular shelving is the same type of boring design are mistaken. Manufacturers offer many types of such products, differing in design. The most popular are floor models. They have symmetrical or asymmetrical shelves. Floor structures are available in several variations.

  • Wall shelving. These products are equipped with a rear panel. They are designed to be located next to a wall. Installation does not imply fixing the structure to the fasteners - the system is held by its own weight.

  • Cylinder racks. Most often, this furniture is used to store books, photographs or decor items. Cylindrical furniture has the ability to rotate, which makes it easier to operate.
  • Island shelving. These are open structures that do not have a back panel. They are designed to delimit space into functional areas. Products are mobile - they are equipped with wheels to facilitate movement around the house. They are suitable for people who need a temporary screen, or for those who are used to regular interior changes. And also manufacturers offer furniture with or without legs. Some models have a foot adjustment function, thanks to which you can compensate for unevenness in the floor surface.

Suspended structures can be found on sale. They are located on the walls or attached to the ceiling surface.

Manufacturers also produce built-in modular shelving. They are used as a library or as a repository for decorative items. Such designs are suitable for apartments in which there is a niche. Thanks to the use of multi-tiered structures, space can be saved.

Corner modules are considered less common. Such racks are purchased for arranging small rooms, corridors or storage rooms. Corner open storage systems bring coziness to the room and make it original.

Choice

When buying a modular shelving unit for your home, you need to consider a number of parameters.

  1. Dimensions. When choosing furniture, you need to pay attention to the number of its shelves and their depth. The capacity of the structure will directly depend on them. For storing books, it is best to give preference to models with a depth of 25-30 cm.To place massive figurines and various decor, it is recommended to pay attention to solutions with a depth of 35-40 cm.
  2. Stability. The most reliable models are those that have the ability to mount to a wall or ceiling. For safety reasons, furniture used in children's rooms must necessarily include a fastening system.
  3. Manufacturing material. Products can be made of natural wood, MDF, chipboard, metal, glass or plastic.
  4. A variation of the design. Open or closed systems, island, wall, cylindrical or suspended - the choice directly depends on the needs and personal preferences of the buyer.

Another important criterion is design. A modular shelving unit should fit into the existing interior of the room and successfully harmonize in color and design with other furnishings and decor.
