Homemade plum called Renklod collective farm has been grown in Russian gardens for over 70 years. This yellow-fruited variety is an excellent pollinator for many other types of fruit trees, appreciated for its versatility, vitality and ease of care. Once upon a time, whole gardens were planted with such plums, today they are more often found in private farmsteads.

Description of the variety

The trees are not too large, of medium height. The crown is moderately dense, spreading, rounded, drooping, flattened in an adult tree. Such changes are associated with deformation of the branches under the weight of the crop. The shoots are colored red-brown, the leaves are light green. During flowering, the tree is covered with white buds, exuding a delicate delicate aroma.

Fruit characteristics

Plums are medium in size, weighing about 24 g, with a traditional round shape and thin skin. The fruits are yellow, have a light bluish bloom, numerous dots on the surface. The pulp is medium-dense inside, semi-freely separable from the stone.

Taste qualities

The fruits are sour-sweet, pleasant, juicy enough and tender when bitten. When fresh, the tasting rating of plums reaches 4 points. They are equally well suited for processing into sauces, baking, making jams.

Ripening and fruiting

Fruits appear annually, by the 2nd decade of August. In terms of ripening of the plum, it is medium late, its early maturity is also average. The first harvest should be expected no earlier than 4-5 years from the moment of planting. When overripe, plums are prone to shedding.

After planting a plum sapling on the site, of course, the question of the beginning of the fruiting of the tree always arises. Most varieties of plums begin to bear fruit 4 years after the seedling is planted. However, there are those that differ in an earlier or later period of fruiting. The difference in the beginning of fruiting is determined by the color of the plum. So, purple varieties always begin to bear fruit earlier - by 2-4 years, but yellow varieties differ in later fruiting.

Yield

Kolkhoz renklod is classified as a high-yielding variety. An adult tree 10 years old gives 39-51 kg of fruit. The first harvest will be more modest, no more than 8-10 kg.

Growing regions

This plum variety is included in the State Register for the Central, Central Black Earth Region and North-West regions. It is here that it is recommended to grow it.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The plum is self-fertile. For successful cross-pollination, she needs other varieties in the garden, the flowering time of which falls on the same period. The Hungarian Moscow or Volzhskaya Beauty will do. This variety is not capable of crossing only with Chinese plums.

Growing and care

It is best to plan the planting of this plum in the spring months so that it has time to take root and acclimatize. Autumn months may not be enough for this, and winter frosts will lead to the death of a young plant. The choice of location is made in favor of sunny, well-protected areas from the wind, not shaded by large-sized trees or buildings. It is better to focus on the south and southeast side of the land plot.

Best of all, this variety of domestic plum grows and develops on sandy loam or loamy soils. The acidity level on them should be maintained in the range of 6.5-7 pH. The close occurrence of groundwater to the roots of trees is contraindicated. It can harm the root system, lead to its decay and damage to various diseases.

If you plan to plant several trees at once, the marking on the site is carried out according to the 3 × 3 m scheme. Pits are dug taking into account the size of the root system of the plant, usually a diameter of 80 cm at a depth of 0.5 m is enough. The excavated soil is not removed, but improved. It is combined with 10 liters of compost and 100 g of wood ash.

Strongly acidic soils can be improved by adding a small amount of fluffy lime. In a rather loose and organic soil, you can add not additional humus, but mineral fertilizers. In this case, a complex of superphosphate and potassium sulfate (200 and 80 g, respectively) is laid on each tree. All ingredients are thoroughly mixed. They fill the pit, leave it for 2-3 weeks.

Even a strong seedling should be tied up additionally. For this, a support is installed in the pit, and it is buried. The garter is made exclusively with synthetic materials. The planting process itself does not require much effort. A young tree is freed from packaging, if necessary, the roots are soaked in water, then they are installed inside the hole from the south of the support, sprinkled with a prepared substrate.

For watering plums, a rounded groove with a closed contour is formed in the root area immediately after planting. It is in it in the future that fertilizers and moisture for irrigation will be applied. Immediately after planting, about 30 liters of water are fed here. The groove can be dug in advance.

Frequent watering of the collective farm Renklode is not needed. According to the recommendations of the author of the variety, moisture is introduced every 2-3 weeks. The surface of the soil between these procedures is necessarily covered with a thick layer of mulch. Watering rates change as the trees grow. If at first 3 buckets of water are enough for the drain, then by 5-6 years, with the entry into fruiting, up to 100 liters will be brought under the root at a time.

Among other important recommendations, it is worth noting the loosening of the trunk circle. In the fall, it is complemented by digging with the harvesting of unnecessary root growth. If you leave it, the yield will noticeably decrease. Also during this period, pruning is carried out. In young trees, 4-6 skeletal branches are left.

The feeding schedule won't be too complicated either. Nitrogen organic fertilizers are applied in the fall, with a frequency of 3 years. In the spring, before flowering, plantings are treated on the ground with ammonium nitrate.

For normal development and timely release to fruiting, the plum must be planted at a favorable time, provided with food and water. It is necessary to choose the right seedling, determine the location, prepare the planting pit in advance.
If you wish to get a full-fledged harvest in the future, and to renew the tree, the plum is grafted onto crops that belong to the pink family. In this case, the plum cuttings are implanted on the mother plant, which will be responsible for further vegetation and nutrition of the scion.
Pruning plums is not easy and very important. If it is not carried out, the number of branches on the tree will be excessive, the crown will become too thick, the fruits will begin to shrink. You can prune plums in spring, summer and autumn.
Plum feeding is one of the important stages of fruit crop care. In order to properly and fully feed the plum tree, various types of fertilizers are used. Both mineral and organic options are used. Many of the folk remedies are found to be useful and effective.

Disease and pest resistance

One of the main disadvantages of the collective farm Renklode is susceptibility to fungal diseases. According to this indicator, the old variety is noticeably inferior to most of the new ones. But it is resistant to gum flow, and with regular sanitary pruning, the tree will be less likely to be at risk of fungal diseases. When a plum sawfly or moth appears on the branches, it is worth considering the possibility of spraying the crown with modern chemical insecticides.

Despite the fact that plum is considered more hardy than many fruit trees, it is not immune from diseases. It is attacked by viral, fungal and bacterial infections, and parasitic insects harm it. It is necessary to notice and recognize the signs of plum disease in time. They are easier to deal with and defeat early on. Well, in order to protect the garden tree from such a misfortune in the future, preventive procedures can be carried out.

Resistance to soil and climatic conditions

The variety has a high winter hardiness. Plum trees tolerate common cold temperatures down to -25-30 degrees Celsius quite well. With short-term exposure to lower temperatures, part of the branches freezes, but within 2-3 years the crown regains its volume. Also, trees are resistant to sunburn, they are not afraid of prolonged heat and drought.

Reproduction of plums will help save on planting material: you do not have to pay money for a seedling. In addition, this activity is simple and exciting. Plum can be propagated by cuttings, root shoots and layering.
