The cartridge gun is a popular construction tool. It greatly facilitates the process of plastering surfaces and allows you to make high-quality repairs yourself.

Technical specifications

The cartridge pistol is a semi-automatic device, consisting of the following elements:

  • a handle equipped with a trigger, with the help of which the device is turned on;
  • short barrel made of steel;
  • nozzle equipped with a set of nozzles with different diameter and shape of the outlet;
  • funnel with a capacity of 3 to 5 liters,
  • a casing equipped with a suction hose for supplying compressed air, connected to the compressor;
  • a compressor with a capacity of at least four atmospheres and a capacity of about 200 liters of air per minute;
  • a blow-off rod designed to remove blockages from gun ports.

The principle of operation of the device is as follows: high pressure water is supplied to the nozzle of the gun, where the solution flows from the container at the same time. The air jet forcefully blows the solution out of the apparatus and distributes it evenly over the surface.

A certain type of nozzle is intended for each composition., calculated for the specific thickness of the solution and its granularity. The angle of the flare on the diffuser nozzle also depends on the consistency of the mixture. The thicker the solution, the larger the angle should be. For example, to work with a thick gypsum composition, an indicator of at least 30 degrees should be chosen, and when working with liquid mixtures, an angle of 15-20 degrees will be sufficient.

The main differences between the cartridge pistol and the home-made hopper bucket are the absence of the connection between the container and the compressor and the angle of solution supply. In a hopper, it depends on the angle at which the air jet is supplied to the solution, and in a cartridge device, on the angle of the nozzle.

Features and Benefits

The pneumatic gun is in high consumer demand, which due to the numerous advantages of the device:

  • a wide range of models allows you to work with any type of plaster, as well as use a gun for painting surfaces and forming a self-leveling floor;
  • high density of the formed layer guarantees almost complete absence of pores and cavities, which significantly increases the strength and extends the service life of the coating;
  • high speed of work, reaching up to 60 m2 per hour, allows you to plaster large areas in a short time;
  • economical solution consumption;
  • affordable price (budget models cost no more than two thousand rubles);
  • the possibility of forming an even and smooth coating without having the skills of finishing work.

Types of solutions

In the modern construction market, mixtures for a cartridge pistol are presented in dry and ready-made forms. Dry formulations are in higher demand due to their low cost, ease of use and long shelf life.

Mortars are gypsum or cement based and supplemented with various additives that improve the viscosity and plasticity of the material. Cement mixtures have high moisture resistant properties and can be used for finishing facades of buildings, swimming pools and bathrooms.Gypsum mortars are best used for plastering rooms with normal or low humidity. The advantage of gypsum is the high elasticity and fineness of the mixture, good sliding and quick preparation of the mortar.

The consistency of the mixture should resemble thick sour cream and freely "slide" along the walls of the funnel. The use of marble or mica chips is allowed, which makes it possible to form beautiful surfaces with an unusual structure. To create a textured surface with further mechanical application of the pattern, it is better to use a more liquid composition. Cartridge guns can be filled with any type of mortar, including glue and synthetic mixes.

Instructions for use

The first stage of work is the preparation of the surface for plastering, which consists in cleaning, dedusting and priming the working base. In the presence of large differences in height, they should be eliminated by cutting off protruding elements, followed by filling in irregularities with a cement-sand mixture. Then you should install beacons that will serve as a guide to the thickness of the layer being formed. Next, you need to start mixing the solution, during which you need to achieve its complete homogeneity, otherwise, after drying, the surface may crack. It is recommended to knead in small portions, strictly observing the proportions of the mixture and water. This is especially true for gypsum formulations, which have a short pot life and set quickly.

Compressor power should be set very carefully. With a weak pressure, the mixture will scatter in different directions and drain from the surface, and too much pressure will lead to the hose being pulled out and work stops. It is recommended to keep the pneumatic gun at a distance of 35-40 cm from the wall. In the absence of experience in using a gun, you should choose a nozzle for a solution of medium density, and it is better to make the mixture a little more liquid than that used for manual plastering. Such an optimal ratio of nozzle size and composition density will help to acquire the necessary skills and quickly master the work with a pistol.

The gun should be held at waist level so that the spray of solution hits the wall only at right angles. You need to lead the pistol in a straight line along the wall, and overlap the next row on the previous one, moving in the opposite direction. The solution should be applied in several layers, giving each of them time to dry.

The formation of a 2 cm layer at a time is unacceptable. The upper pre-finishing layer must be leveled with a rule, and after it has completely dried out, it must be treated with a construction trowel. An exception may be gypsum mortar, which often serves as a starting and finishing layer at the same time. In this case, it is permissible to limit the application to one layer of mortar up to 10 mm thick. Work should be carried out in compliance with personal protective measures, using gloves, glasses or a plastic shield.

Useful Tips

When working with a plaster gun, the uniformity of the applied layer should be monitored. This will help prevent cracking due to uneven drying of the compound. This is especially true for cement slurries. When forming a centimeter layer, the average consumption of the mixture is 25 kg per one and a half square meters.

It is not recommended to fill the funnel to the top with the composition. This will make it easier to handle the gun, allowing it to be lifted to the desired height with little effort.

In order to avoid pneumatic impacts and excessive firing of the mixture, press the trigger lever smoothly and continuously throughout the entire cycle of applying the solution. When installing decorative plaster, the mixture is applied in several thin layers using the spraying method.

Popular manufacturers

The most popular models, both among amateurs and professionals, are products of the Swiss brand "Brigadier" worth 4200 rubles, equipped with an aluminum funnel, characterized by a long service life and high strength. Also popular are pistols "Matrix", which can be purchased for two and a half thousand rubles. The company's products are also noteworthy "Fubag", whose products are of high quality and light weight. The cost of such pistols is 3400 rubles.

Reviews

    The cartridge gun is a popular finishing tool and has received many positive reviews. Buyers note the ease of use of the device and the high speed of work. They also pay attention to the possibility of self-repair without experience and certain skills. Of the minuses, there is a large weight of some models, which, in combination with a filled container, creates some difficulties when applying the solution. Also, users talk about the need to use the entire prepared mixture at one time, which is imperative in order to avoid solidification of the composition inside the device. Attention is also drawn to the high cost of some models.
