Taking into account all the advantages and technological advantages of such a popular material as decorative plaster, any specialist in the field of interior decoration of premises immediately thinks about the breadth of choice and variety of effects that can be obtained using this composite. Of undoubted interest in this series are decorative "wood-like" plasters.

Peculiarities

The highly durable finish, imitating natural material, reproduces the natural appearance of wood in such a convincing way that it is difficult to distinguish it from real wood. Naturally, this effect takes place if all the work is done by a master at the proper professional level. As for the price, such plaster is much cheaper than wood panels.

This can be done to create a bark effect. by imitation of a surface with natural damage or in the form of the effect of boards laid back to back. A transverse pattern in the form of a cut or a panel with reproduction of wood texture is also possible.

Each of these cases requires the use of dissimilar techniques, tools and decorative plaster, so you should make a choice in favor of the option you like in advance. In addition to working directly with the solution, to obtain the desired color, you must also choose the correct color scheme.

The gel or dye in the bucket may have the desired shade, but after being applied to the walls, the color may lose the desired saturation, showing a completely different result.

Composition

Decorative plasters are among the safe finishing materials made from natural raw materials. To their composition there is a binder base, due to which the coating solidifies. The base of acrylic polymers allows you to obtain a textured or glossy surface.

This is followed by a filler designed to form a decorative "wooden" illusion. Especially popular among consumers are such mixtures, which are based on lime, gypsum and quartz sand.

The composition of such plasters also includes additives, on which the color, quality and consistency of the finished solution depend. As for the solvent, it is ordinary water.

Universal properties and a wide range of varieties of plaster, stylized as wood, make it possible to use it in interior design in any stylistic direction.

Application and varieties

This kind of material can be used to cover wall surfaces inside the house, as well as during external facade work. At the same time, the appearance of the finished coating with imitation of wood of various species is so natural that at first glance it can be difficult to immediately distinguish between plastered surfaces and walls made of real wood. Therefore, the reproduction of natural material due to imitation finishing technologies in the interior of a house or apartment is so attractive to people.

To obtain a surface that is indistinguishable from a cut of wood, requires serious professional skills. It is necessary to use spatulas correctly, as well as to know the drawing of the wood structure - without this, independent work simply does not make sense.However, if you want to complete the decoration yourself, the home owner can take a couple of lessons from a professional craftsman and successfully cope with the task.

To give naturalism to the drawing, you should master the skills:

  • images of tree bark;
  • images of imitation of a boardwalk;
  • be able to reproduce the cross-cut of a tree trunk;
  • master the demonstration of traces of the "work" of insect pests, as well as the creation of sections of the wall in the form of a panel.

    Each of these techniques will require the use of a special tool. Having prepared the working solution on your own, you should perform a test plastering of a small fragment of the wall.

    The discovery of some shortcomings will require adjusting the proportion of the ingredients of the working mixture, and obtaining a solution of the required viscosity does not require a certain professional experience.

    The process is greatly simplified by purchasing a ready-made mixture in a building materials store.

    The plaster contains solid components, from which characteristic grooves remain during the rubbing process. It is sold in plastic pails with labels on the containers showing the color of the surface after application. Structural and textured plaster grades are the two main types of such a coating for imitation wood.

    Structural

    The structural variety of plaster in its composition has small inclusions of a solid consistency. When such a solution is rubbed with a float, small grooves remain from solid compounds. Thanks to such grooves, the illusion of natural wood, damaged by various pests, arises. When the plaster dries slightly, to imitate the appearance of tree bark, they are driven vertically or horizontally with a trowel.

    Textured

    The technique of obtaining a textured plastered surface is somewhat more complicated, but the drawings made according to this principle have a brighter and more beautiful appearance. A textured solution is applied to an absolutely flat wall surface, for which a special tool is used, designed specifically for this kind of work.

    Various floats and trowels, curved rods, and many other tools for obtaining a wood structure can be purchased at any building profile store.

    Application technology

    First, the wall is primed without attention to minor cracks and spalls, since such small defects will be hidden by the decorative coating. Further, the viscous plaster composite is spread with a neat even layer with a spatula over the entire surface of the wall so that as a result a smooth surface is obtained without noticeable pits and protrusions.

    A thickness of about 4-5 mm for this kind of plaster should be considered sufficient.

    Then, with a special fleecy float, lines are drawn smoothly (with some bend) in a vertical or horizontal direction. The degree of naturalness of the pattern of the plaster coating with imitation of wood depends on the imagination and professional skills of the performer. Some experts assign the role of a grater to a simple clothes brush.

    The dried plaster layer is rubbed with a spatula. Ultimately, the texture of the drawing should have a smooth glossy appearance. The dry surface is covered with a layer of gel color in the direction of the grooves using a brush, swab or roller. The final smoothing of the veneer is carried out with a spatula.

    Due to the use of various additives and a high level of quality, modern plaster coatings for wood do not need complex processing after their application... Typically, the finish is done with wax or varnish. If, for the sake of economy, a composite without pigment was purchased, it is enough to paint the plaster after hardening with water-based acrylate.

    Decorative plaster "imitation wood" is used where there is a need to create a cozy atmosphere in the form of a natural environment from modern materials.
