Extension cords for sockets are an extremely useful thing in everyday life. This is especially true for old communal apartments, where one room has a maximum of 1-2 sockets. Of course, it is believed that this is only a temporary solution, because it is impossible to keep the equipment connected in this way all the time. However, extension cords are different. Today, for example, we will look at models from the Legrand company.

Advantages and disadvantages

The first step is to deal with the terms. A surge protector is the same extension cord, but more reliable. They build in circuit breakers, which protect the connected equipment from power surges.

You can find on sale both a surge protector and a Legrand extension cord. However, this is not their main focus. Legrand is mainly engaged in the production and sale of various wiring products. All of their products are highly regarded by electricians for their high quality - fortunately, extension cords are no exception.

All models presented in the company's catalog can boast of very high performance. We are talking about the durability of the devices and the level of the maximum permissible load. In addition, their model range is very diverse - any buyer can find here a suitable solution for their situation.

The main and, probably, the only drawback of their products is the price. It is quite high for our market: the average price tag is about 1000 rubles.

There are, of course, a couple of budget models, but at the same time there are options for 2500 rubles.

But sometimes it's better to overpay for quality. Especially when it comes to electricity, because if something happens, you will have to pay much more for burnt out equipment.

Assortment overview

Since we're talking about the choice of models, let's dwell on this in a little more detail. In general, Legrand has already released quite a few models, but it will take too much time to disassemble them all. Therefore, we will consider only the most popular options that are in demand among the Russian consumer.

  • "Standard". The simplest of the popular models. Flat extension for 3-6 additional sockets; cable length from 1.5 to 5 meters; the maximum power of the connected devices is 3500 W. Its flat shape allows it to be placed even under furniture, and the holes in the back panel make it possible to hang it on the wall.
  • "Comfort"... The model is equipped with a power off button and special legs that allow not only to securely fix the extension cord on any surface, but also to rotate it at different angles. It is also designed for 3-6 sockets, and its cable length is from 1.5 to 5 meters. The maximum power is slightly higher - 3680 watts.
  • "Comfort and safety"... This variant is very similar to the previous model - it is also equipped with a button and feet. At the same time, a number of changes were made. The manufacturer has increased the distance between the outlets for greater convenience, increased the maximum service life and added a USB port for charging gadgets without a power supply. The maximum cable size is 3 meters.
  • "Safety and protection of equipment"... It is currently the most advanced model from Legrand. All the advantages of the previous model and a number of improvements: an additional USB port, a special stand for vertical installation and a power indicator. In addition, it is already a surge protector; and it not only protects devices from voltage surges, but even shows the status of internal fuses. Unfortunately, the maximum cable length is only 2 meters.

These models can be found in the Legrand catalog.

In the store, they are most often presented under digital names indicating the model and parameters of the devices, but on the official website of the manufacturer they are indicated that way.

Selection rules

Now let's discuss the basic rules for choosing extension cords and how what to look for when buying.

  1. The first step is to decide do you want a surge protector or a regular extension cord. Surge protectors will protect your electrical appliances more reliably, but they cost an order of magnitude more. It is best to take them for a "gluttonous" technique, or if you know that your home is under pressure.
  2. Then we look at maximum allowable power. If it is not enough, the extension cord may burn out along with all connected equipment.
  3. The next thing to look out for is distance between sockets. Some types of equipment and devices cannot be connected if the distance between the sockets is too small.
  4. Next in importance is cord length. Consider how you are going to use the extension cord. Choose it so that the wire is long enough for your needs.
  5. Do not forget about the number of nests themselves. The more, the better, but an increase in the number of nests means an increased size.
  6. Still worth checking availability of additional sockets, for example, USB.
  7. Well, the last thing you need to evaluate appearance of the device: color, shape, design and more.

These are all the main parameters of various models that you can pay attention to when buying. And we are talking here not only about Legrand products, but also about any other manufacturers.
