Among the currently existing protective equipment, the most accessible and widespread is a respirator. Today in our article we will talk about the features and distinctive characteristics of the "Petal" respirators.

Main characteristics

The "Petal" respirator is a protective mask. It has a fairly simple design and differs significantly from the more advanced valve protectors. The effectiveness of this personal protective equipment (RPE) is explained by the fact that its manufacture complies with GOST standards. It should be borne in mind that Petal is suitable for single use only. At the same time, a more specific indicator of the allowed time of use depends on a wide range of factors: environmental conditions (for example, temperature indicators or humidity level), the intensity of harmful substances, etc. In this case, the unit will be able to protect you from dust and aerosols, but is powerless in in relation to vapors and gases.

This means of protection has been produced on the territory of our country since 1957. It is lightweight by nature. The Petal design is a circular mask made of a large number of layers of special filtering fabric. In the process of manufacturing the base of such a RPE, a material such as plastic is used. In addition, for the convenience of the user and in order for the "Petal" to fit tightly on the face, specially designed ties and a nose plate are also provided. "Petal" fits snugly to the person's face.

This characteristic of the mask is achieved due to the fact that the filter material is electrostatically charged in its characteristics.

Most often, RPE is used to protect the respiratory system from harmful dust, which is not toxic in nature (for example, dust of plant, animal, metal or mineral origin), as well as from a variety of viruses, bacteria, harmful microorganisms and aerosols. Thus, it can be concluded that "Petal" is widely used in such spheres of human life as mining, metallurgy, industry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, medicine etc. At home, the mask is used in the process of repair and construction work.

As mentioned above, the functioning of the "Petal" is ensured by a special filtering element, which is called the Petryanov filter cloth (or FPP)... This material consists of very thin polymer fibers, which are equally distributed over the surface of the gauze (which, in turn, acts as a lining). Despite the fact that this material prevents a variety of harmful substances from entering the human body, it is completely harmless to humans, Petryanov's filter cloth does not cause allergic reactions and other negative consequences.

Popular models

The "Petal" respirator is available for purchase in 3 models, namely: "Petal-200", "Petal-40", "Petal-5". Each of these masks has its own distinctive features and individual characteristics, which must be carefully studied before purchasing. The number that follows the name of the RPE (5, 40 or 200) indicates how much harmful dust the mask can protect you from (for example, harmful substances can exceed the permissible value by 5, 40 or 200 times).

It should also be borne in mind that such an exaggeration of the maximum permissible concentration applies to the presence in the atmosphere of harmful elements up to 2 microns in size, more than 2 microns, all models of the Lepestok RPE mask have a multiplicity of increasing the permissible concentrations of aerosols in the ambient air equal to 200... One or another model of personal protective equipment can be easily distinguished externally, since each of them has its own color: "Petal-200" - white, "Petal-40" - orange, "Petal-5" - blue.

How to choose?

The choice of individual means of protection "Petal" should be approached as carefully and responsibly as possible. Remember that your safety, health, and in some cases even life depends on it. First of all, you should think in advance about which sources of pollution you will have to defend against. Please be aware that “Petal ”is only suitable if the harmful substances are in the form of dust or aerosols. Another important characteristic is the concentration of such negative elements. Which model "Petal" will be the most suitable depends on this indicator.

So, in order to correctly determine all these parameters, first you need to familiarize yourself with such an indicator as MPC (maximum permissible concentration) in the air of those harmful components with which you will deal when performing this or that type of work.

In this case, it is important to take into account the external conditions (for example, various models will be relevant in the fresh air or in a closed room).

Generally speaking, it is best to give preference to the model that has the highest level of protection - only in this case you can be sure of your safety.

In addition to the functional characteristics of the RPE, pay attention also to the usability of the "Petal"... Remember that the edges of the face shield must fit snugly against your face - only then can you count on the proper level of security. In doing so, you should be able to breathe freely. If, in the process of trying on the mask, you realized that your breathing is difficult, then you should refuse to purchase. Accordingly, about the possibility, give preference to RPEs, which in their design have a special element - an obturator. It regulates the movement of air masses inside the mask. If in the process of choosing and purchasing "Petal" you take into account all these factors, then buy a high-quality mask that will protect you from the negative influences of the environment and preserve your health.

How to use?

After you have chosen and purchased the Lepestok RPE, it is important to take care that you use the mask correctly. So, after purchase, you will notice that in its outward appearance, in the inoperative position, the "Petal" is a flat circle. Moreover, each mask is packed in an individual bag. Accordingly, in order to to put on the "Petal", you need to perform a certain sequence of actions.

First of all, you must open the package and get your personal protective equipment. Next, you need to spread the headband ribbons in different directions. The next step is to stretch the edges of the lace. The edges need to be pulled out in turn and only a few centimeters (no more). After that, you have to tie these edges with a standard straight knot and tuck them under the spacer. After that, you need to pay attention to the obturator - for this, straighten the base of the RPE.

Now you need to apply the Petal to your face and place the mask nose plate on your bridge of your nose. In order to properly put on the mask, you need to pull it from the chin towards the nose. Remember to gently and carefully smooth the skirt over your face. Now it remains to make sure that the tape is fixed to the back of your head and make sure that the personal protective equipment fits snugly enough to the surface of your face.

If there are folds and irregularities, then they must be straightened out. As an additional safety measure, you can smooth the edges of the mask around the entire perimeter, thanks to which the Petal will fit more tightly. If you purchase a respirator in bulk or are not sure of the quality of the purchased product, then you should be aware that certain requirements are put forward for the storage and transportation of masks.

Each mask must be sold individually. If the package is torn or its integrity is violated in some other way, you should immediately abandon the purchase.

The batch of RPE "Petal" consists of 100 masks, which (in addition to individual packaging, which usually takes the form of a paper bag) are packed in a cardboard box. During transportation, it is very important that these boxes are in no way exposed to negative external influences: mechanical damage, atmospheric precipitation, etc. At the same time, the permissible air temperature should not exceed +50 degrees Celsius, and the humidity should be at the level 80% (no more). There should be no foreign substances near the masks: oils, solvents, poisons and any other chemical products. Subject to all the rules that have been described above, the shelf life of the mask is:

  • Petal-200 - 4 years;
  • Petal-40 - 2 years;
  • "Petal-5" - 2 years.

In the next video, you will find an instruction manual for the ShB-1 "Petal-200" respirator.
