A star screwdriver is an elongated tool for driving in and out screws with a shank and / or a six-pointed star tip. It has unique features that are indispensable when assembling many devices and not only. This is what this article will be about.

The star screwdriver's distinctive mark is the Torx badge engraved on it. As mentioned above, this type of screwdriver is distinguished by its tip shape. Such models are used mainly for fixing hardware of computer devices and other gadgets. Star-shaped screwdrivers help to reliably isolate the "stuffing" of technical devices to which human access is undesirable.
Another feature of this model is its high torque superiority over other models of screwdrivers: it is almost 10 times more than, for example, a Phillips screwdriver.
What are they?

- The most common type is the five-pointed star screwdriver. It received its "common" name Torx, as well as TX and X in honor of the company that first patented it. As a rule, this particular model is used to work with the smallest screws on telephone gadgets and computers.
- Five-sided screwdriver. It has clear edges, in contrast to the five-beam, and is called the Hex Driver or 5-lobe Torx.
- five-point screwdriver with a hole inside. It is also called Torx Tamper Resistant and TR / Security Torx.
- Another model is called the Tri-Wing. It comes in the shape of a three-pointed star.
- Three-sided model - Triangle. These options are rarely used.
Among these types, it is worth noting hexagons, because they are necessary for repairs with household appliances such as a refrigerator and a washing machine. All models are actively used during the assembly / disassembly of portable equipment and even ATMs.
How to choose?
For home use, it is best to purchase a kit, since the likelihood of "urgent repair" is quite high, and most often there is no time to go to the hardware store in order to find the right screwdriver. Sets most often contain 2, 4 or 7 pieces, differing in size.
More profitable, in contrast to purchasing a set of individual screwdrivers, is a set of bits (nozzles) for them... The sizes of bits with Torx slot are represented by a fairly wide selection - 1-9 / 10/15/20/25/27/30/40/45/50/55/60/70/80/100. Thus, one can single out only one main selection criterion - size.
